Not only BP has this policy. I tried to change my Maybank Amex to pay wave card and was told they need to block the card for a week until the new card is ready.
*
Right. My Public Bank Quantum card too. Previously changed card they too deactivated my old card for a week until I got my new card.

QUOTE(kart @ Nov 2 2019, 06:47 AM)
I have just recently activated my BigPay Prepaid MasterCard. Since I use my Public Bank credit card for initial RM 20 top-up, this card appears as a credit card saved in Top-up Page.

Do I need to delete this credit card, and then manually key in my credit card details again, to perform subsequent top-up to my BigPay card?

Correct me, if I am wrong. For some other eWallets, if we select the existing saved credit card to perform subsequent top-up, we may not get the OTP from the bank. As such, Public Bank does not consider such transactions as online transactions and thus does not grant online cashback, since the transactions are performed without OTP authentication.

I wonder whether such scenario is applicable for subsequent top-up of BigPay Prepaid MasterCard, or not.

Thank you for your advice. smile.gif

BigPay top up will always request for OTP. I have my PB card saved too. No problem in getting cashback.

You can now use BigPay for China trip, indirectly.

Get the Bank of Shanghai prepaid card @ Alipay which has a wallet size of RMB2000. Use BigPay to top up the card for good rates. Then you can use Alipay to make payment almost anywhere. Just make sure you have mobile data in order to use Alipay.

Can use to verify alipay?
*
All the while we can verify alipay with our passport and selfie just to accept funds and make payment with the china wallet. Without china local bank card, we cannot top up the wallet. Now Alipay works with Bank of Shanghai to offer foreigners an international wallet (i.e. the virtual prepaid card) which we can top up using an international credit/debit card. My concern is how+when the unused balance to be refunded to Bigpay when the Tour Pass expires at the 90th day and the difference in exchange rate when the refund is processed.
*
The refund will be known in Feb 2020 for me. 😅 My guess is the exchange rate will follow the exchange rate in Feb 2020. So plus minus lar. I'm fine with it since we are already getting a good rate. But it did have a pop up message when I did the top up just now saying that the prepaid card service is free of charge till 31 Dec 2019. I wonder how much later on.

So u will get a physical card (VISA/MC/UnionPay?) and an App just like Bigpay?
*
No, we are just using alipay app, and the prepaid card is a virtual prepaid card, so basically just like another wallet in alipay app. At alipay homepage, search TourPass, and you will get the mini program to do the top up.

How to apply for a prepaid card from Bank of Shanghai?
*
You don't actually need to apply the card from Bank of Shanghai. Just download Alipay, at the homepage search bar, type in TourPass. Open that, and fill up the amount to top up (min RMB100) into the virtual prepaid card, fill up personal info, you will be required to upload your valid China Visa, then put in BigPay card information and submit. Once it is successful, you will be able to use alipay right away.

Maybe use another phone camera to take the picture of the qr code from your phone, then you can use your phone to scan the qr code from the other phone.

Does the bigpay apps notify user on the points that going to expire soon?
*
No it doesn't. You can check from the Big Loyalty app. Under the transaction history, you can see how many points are expiring and the date of expiry. I do get emails from Big Loyalty on the points that are expiring.

Good to know that. There was once I wanted to try it out in Mid Valley (before pandemic strikes) and colleagues didn't want to try, so we left. Maybe can try out in my next visit and use a bit of my BiG points to offset.
*
Tried it a few times at Mid Valley when they started. You have to order via their website in order to use Big points. I like their ordering system. I can order from the website upon reaching the store via their website and collect when I arrive. Remember to use promo code whenever they have offer. This can only be done through the website. 10.10 is coming and they likely will have some promo again,

Since MCO, I've not eaten there for some time. But I still order from Grabfood.

I cannot disagree with what you've said. cybpsych below you has summarised it nicely - there is no perfect solution.

However, it does not mean you stop looking for improvements. To cybpsych's point, you need to strike a balance between security and convenience, and I think based on the volume of scam calls going around right now, there is certainly a need to beef up security, and I don't think it is at all unreasonable that we are expecting some improvements/changes.

This is a constant cat and mouse game, but if you're going to just give up and say "humans are the weakest link" (despite this being true), then you're constantly finding a reason to not improve... and to be honest, from BigPay's perspective (as a business), this is probably fine until you have a nimble/agile competitor who is constantly listening to their consumers. But for BigPay, they're still unique in the market, so they don't have a strong incentive to improve/change things. Who else are we gonna start using if not BigPay..? No competitors here.

Increase tax on alcohol? Either you can see that as, you're just making those that drink alcohol poorer, or, you're disincentivising consumption by making it more expensive.

Summary: There are always two (or more) ways to look at things.
*
Hmm..... maybe don't use whatsapp? My friend who doesn't use whatsapp don't get such scam calls. laugh.gif

omg so stupid. all scam transactions are real transactions

Exactly. My experience was that after 1+ month of "investigation", bigpay merely forwarded me the merchant's "evidence" that the transactions were "genuine".

do you use your bigpay card at many online shopping websites? or just card terminal (swipe) at merchant shops?
*
I'm curious to know too. I don't use the physical card at all, and it's been in the drawer all the time. I use it mainly for online purchases and topping up ewallets, and it has been so since I started using BigPay before they had the contactless card. Never had any unauthorised charges until last Dec after adding BigPay into Google account for the first time in Nov, never added any cards before. What a coincidence that the merchant for all those unauthorised charges is Google too.

It works like a normal card online, only you cant swipe it physically.

May I know the advantage of a virtual card? Currently I'm only using my BigPay for online purchases. I'm still using the old Mastercard.

You dont need to wait for the actual physical card replacement to use the virtual card.

My mastercard only expires in 2024, so won't be replacing a new one anytime soon.
