i clarified with friend again, he said he wasnt given the option to charge in local currency

Your friend to decide before key-in the PIN or sign, he could reject when he saw the transaction was in Ringgit.

I also being charged by DCC earlier this year.
The merchant print out the slip, there are 2 boxes - local currency & RM
I specifically tick "local currency", yet when I checked my CC statement, i was charged in RM!!!
Called CC CS, but nothing can be done.
Contacted the merchant, he can still show me the slip ticked on "local currency", insist he submitted the correct one.
Communication breakdown, forget about it, after all, it is a small amount, only a few ringgit extra.

I did use BP to pay via Maxis Pay few days ago.
I did not "add" the card, just select pay by CC, key in BP card number and pay for it.

In China, depending on which city you are in, Mastercard and Visa card acceptance is very low. If card is accepted, many times it's Union Pay. And also do take note that there may be a fee of about 3% charge if you use credit card. So it seems like your RM9 is about 3% of the RM260 you paid.

So I personally wouldn't use BigPay in China. I'll use mostly cash, sometimes Wechat Pay or Union Pay card.

Even for big cities, not many merchants are accepting Visa / MC.
Mainly use for hotel, and supermarkets.
Usually international brands are accepting.

I think 'normal' withdrawal won't show the exchange rate. The ATM somehow giving you bank rate aka give you non-favourable rate.

Recently I also swipe my card in China (yes, not many outlets accept visa/MC in china), and the POS system will auto convert into RM (at poor exchange rate). I told them to use CNY but there is no option to choose in POS system. I believe somehow they already pre-set the system. Although the print out slip has 2 boxes to tick - CNY or MYR, but they told me must tick MYR.

This is my 2nd encountered this year. First time in HK, I tick HKD but can't help as the system only can process as MYR.

Questions for BigPay prepaid Mastercard usage in the USA - can we use BigPay Mastercard to get cash from groceries store?

If you have debit card issued by US bank, when paying for your groceries, you can withdraw small amount of cash from your saving/current account when paying your groceries, eg when buying  $5.00 of groceries, you can request $20 cash by paying $25 for that transaction.  Can we do the same with BigPay Prepaid card?
*
May not able to do so, since they are likely to process BP as "credit card" instead of "debit card".
Nevertheless, you may try out and report here.

Went February. Few months back though. Managed to withdraw 5k. Looks like hotel lobby floor. Have 4 atms. All different banks atm.

The atm you looking for is the HL atm. Only one, u can't miss it. Can't remember whether it's a CDM/ATM or pure ATM. But beside it is CIMB cdm/atm. I can remember for Cimb, as I immediately deposit into my Cimb account after withdrawal from HL atm
*
Cool. Finally someone provide detail about this legendary atm.
Do you mean First world lobby?
There are a few sets of 4 atm if not mistaken.
Hopefully more people can verify this.

Not sure is first world or not. The upstairs is the indoor theme park already.

Enter the lobby main door, left side got convention center, right side got dunno Starbucks or coffee bean. Then I go straight and turn left.

It's 340 degrees once you enter lobby main door.

PS: Googled the image. Yes it is first world hotel lobby. Go straight in until counter then turn left. Continue walking and u will see 4 bank's atm on your left.

I didn't withdraw 5k. Now check back, withdraw 4.6k only. Balance money in bigpay.

Thanks for the info.
Just came back last month, only tried on 1 MBB atm (should have tried the HLB next to it).
Will not go again until next year.

It is depends on how many days or purpose to travel.

Example...... my Apr trip to Japan with my family, I just brought 5000yen (RM200) to Japan.  Once I touch down Japan, I went to 7-11 to withdraw cash for my trip (The rate is better than MC rate at Malaysia).  I swiped card as much as possible at Japan because it is quite credit card friendly.  I still have some balance of Japanese Yen and the end of the trip, I brought back and exchanged at MC again with some currency apppreciation.

My solo trip to Taiwan, mainly Taipei area last month.  I exchanged TWD 2000 and mainly top up into their IC card (悠游卡)for public transport, 7-11 etc. I swiped card at restaurants, Watson, supermarkets etc.  I din make any ATM withdrawal and brought back TWD200.
*
May I know how credit card friendly in Taiwan?

depends if you go street or mall shopping. cash for night markets, street food, etc.
some tourist area might accept cards for the entrance fee. So, i just top up and withdraw cash from my BP in Taiwan. Cheap rate and very easy to get ATM machines.

Ok. Thanks.
Going next month.
Dont think will do much mall shopping.

I don’t think we can do anything about the 4-digit pin.

Prague is still ketinggalan zaman.

I remembered my first time to Amsterdam (not too long ago actually), need to keep luggage in train station locker, which only accepts 6-digit pin CC. I only have 4-digit pin instead, tested but can't use.

No need envy, there are many ways to swipe your card.
If he use for own company swiping, he has to answer the account, which will gives more trouble than earning a little benefits from CC topup.

So BP is not friendly in China?
Wah, 15~20% for tips, no wonder many people like to jump airplane at US.
*
In US, their wage is very very low, need to rely on tips to survive.
A bit similar to our 10% Service Tax, which is supposed to share among the workers (I believe a lot end up in boss pocket).

Not yet try BP withdrawal in China (may try it next month if low in RMB).
I rmb there are several successful withdrawal from ATM without extra charge reported here.
Many merchants dont accept Visa/MC in China, only ewallet and union pay.
So far I can swipe Visa/MC from all hotels (heard some fail cases but ok for me), supermarket (Walmart/carrefour), a few branded shops.
High end boutique outlets and restaurants I believe no problem.
Mid range restaurants including McD usually not accepting Visa/MC.

Anyone here used BigPay in Greece before? How's the acceptance rate?

Any issues using the card there?
*
6-7 years ago, their CC acceptance is low.
Most hotels and restaurants should be fine.
I guess it is about the same for now, especially islands and outside Athens.
Best you bring along some Euro, I am worry that their ATM is still using 4 digit pin (I am not sure if both 4 & 6-digit are compatible).
I remembered someone here mentioned about this when going Eastern Europe.
