I guess he wants to use it for BP topup as well hence the worry
*
I also applied the same card.
But that shouldn't warrant worry at current stage till he gets the card and uses at BP.
The card covers other categories too.

One thing I can't wrap my head around is that issuing bank of top up card should require OTP / 3DSecure linked to personal phone number in order to process the transaction. I can't understand how SC can authorise anything without this.

I believe you're not the only one in here who can't wrap the head.

If we're to look at a typical CC fraud transaction, there's nothing much BP can do if someone were to get hold of your SCB CC# + CCV & top-up the fraudster's BP account.

In such case, the OTP should be the stopper since its role is essentially the same as 2FA that will determine if the transaction was genuinely initiated by the CC owner himself.

However, in this case, it's indeed weird since we have 3 SCB owners with their card being charged to BP at around the same time. If it's BP's issue, pretty sure the other banks should be affected as well, no? hmm.gif

well, topping up with amex is also one of the commonly requested feature. hope they take note.
*
AMEX top up need to fork out cost.
Supporting cash out and remittance could be very minimum cost.

haha, they must think big. if competitor grabpay can do it, why cant they?
*
But they're not competing with GrabPay.
They're not even competing with Boost. Boost also doesn't accept AMEX.

think big. i think could be matter of time before BP rolls out the function like the other e-wallets. if you notice, they do have this scan qr code function in the app which is under utilised at the moment.
*
Boost, GrabPay and BigPay are servicing different niche markets.

IMHO, BP is only considering Merchantrade as the threatening competitor since they want to launch the foreign currency remittance service.

BP selling point is competitive forex rate.

yup, you are right. currently BP's focus is on forex rate to consolidate themselves there while others are competing with each other in the local e-wallet market. but again, i do think they are keeping their options open in the local e-wallet in the future esp with the scan qr function in there.
*
My guess that they won't be focusing much on the QR function because there's already the physical card.
With the physical card and contactless enabled, BP no need to worry about merchants list nor merchant recruitment like Boost or GrabPay.

haha you are right with the current focus on the physical mastercard. however, many smaller merchants like tealive or auntie anne's for example, do not accept credit cards yet as opposed to e-wallets. the other local e-wallet competitors are doing the hardwork in getting merchants to accept e-wallets (and perhaps to have a unified scanner to accept these e-wallets). later on, BP can just utilise the existing hardware without focusing much on merchant recruitments. that's what i think though.
*
You already said they're thinking BIG. They're thinking BIG which is not locally but overseas.
I think if they enhance the app by enabling NFC payment like the Samsung Pay, they could achieve wider.

personally, i think the market is bigger locally compared to overseas (but it's a niche less explored) for local users in malaysia. personally, majority of my transactions are local. but yea, they should think big and take these into considerations in the future.
*
You can see how it turns out for GrabPay.

1. BP: bagging on its AA ecosystem with BIG and TuneProtect and collaborating with Mastercard
2. GrabPay: bagging on its huge users base from its GrabCar and Uber. Hope to have similar success with GrabFood but not doing so well (personal opinion). GrabPay supported merchant is very narrow. That's why they want to copy BP to collaborate with Mastercard.
3. Boost: merchants and users recruitment are running nuts up to level that you can't even imagine. Constant promotion and campaign to ensure that they don't lose the top spot.

Sorry for a little OT.

yup, that's y they are probably focusing on their own niche at the moment while observing how the local e-wallets do in the near future before taking the next step.
*
Well enough say.
I rather they focus on the stability, security and reliability rather than explosive expansion.

Remember the unauthorized fund top-up/reload and tracebility.
And also phantom ATM withdrawal without physical card.

If already sign up BP and GrabPay, is adding Boost beneficial? How? Maybe Boost has wider merchant list is it?
*
Yes but will still lose to BP because BP is backing on Mastercard network.
