If I don't travel? Then Airasia points is useless for me right???

RM0.50 really is good. They earn money and is cheap for us. I am happy.

afraid this will come true and big pay will lower the limit for customer to top up big pay or they stop credit card to top up bigpay
*
If BigPay cancel cc topup, then is only good for overseas usage. Other than that pretty useless unless their overseas remittance rate is money changer rate or better.

QUOTE
“We saw the early emergence of challenger or new banks in London, with many people disenfranchised from access to banks, and saw the opportunity to bring this model to Southeast Asia,” says Davison, who hails from London where he previously worked in financial services.

The rollout will come amidst plans to launch its services in Singapore by year-end.

BigPay does not charge its users fees, except for ATM withdrawals. Its income is derived from a proportion of the transaction fee charged to merchants, plus interest of about 2% gained by parking users’ money in repurchase agreements or repo.
As mentioned they merely copied revolut, monzo ways of working.

Also kind of too late to enter Singapore market with so many of their competitors setting up shop. Wrong place to branch out you don't offer anything back (caahback/rewards)
as there's are already few BigPay likes down there Youtrip, DBS debit card link to their multicurrency account. Revolut set up office but haven't opened shop in Singapore yet. There's Grab Mastercard which is not ready yet. So let's see how they going to stand out in a crowded market.

And there you go. They earned money form out cash sitting with them. That's why they are so reluctant to let you remove the cash.

You can ignore that guy comment. He's known to blow his own trumpet.

I'm user of Youtrip and Grab Mastercard in SG and also in queue to receive Revolut. Each has their own value proposition and I believe if BigPay launch in SG they can score big.

The money is in trust account
*
You are missing the point here.if you want to be profitable, you need to take some marketshare like grab vs Uber. Uber lost marketshare to grab hence grab will be able to monopolise the market

They might be successful in Malaysia for now (until a time come when no benefits are given by combining credit card usagw) but with more competitors in SG market is gonna be challenging for them..

BTW grab Mastercard is not released to public yet.

I don't care how they earn. I won't be surprised if they are not earning all this while. Just like Grab - gain user traction first. Monetize later. I care more on how to maximize value out from them
*
How to gain marketshare when you are not the only one in town?

How to gain marketshare if got no discount/cashback/rebates? You cannot gain marketshare when your competitors are already established and offering the same thing as you (cheap overseas transactions) You see my point?

Hey Guys , I don't travel much and generally am a very frugal guy.

I'm currently trying to be finance savvy and save as much as I can before I start having responsibilities

So will Bigpay be useful for me?

From what I hear it sounds like a prepaid card mostly used for people travelling ?
*
Depends on what you want.

I use the card for only 2 reason
1. Overseas online shopping. Way cheaper than using cards issued by banks.

2. 2nd reason is as below listed in bold. Change online cashback category to everyday /everything cashback so I am not stuck with online cashback only.

QUOTE(zenquix @ Sep 21 2019, 11:10 PM)
Depends on how  you use it

Some ppl make use of it for good forex rates (travelling, foreign online purchase)

Some use it for cash flow - load via credit card, withdraw as cash -cheaper than cash advance

Personally i use it to convert online cashback to spending of other types (i.e load with cards that give cashback for bigpay, use bigpay to pay for purchases that normally dont get cashback)

if bigpay consider as local retail purchase,
can i do this to get credit card reward points?
*
Depends on cards. Maybank already totally banned BigPay.
Points by banks are usually pathetic. Not worth to chase.
Most of the time cashback > points.
Unless you are going for airlines.

Has anyone tried remitting money to Singapore? Whats the FX rate offered by BigPay? Is it mid-market rate? And what's the transfer limit?
*
Let me test after 15/10. Then I let you know which one is the cheaper option.

Any one been using bigpay to buy stuff at amazon when travelling to US? Need some advice , my card not able to do transaction...
*
I always use my card to buy stuff from US (not from amazon)
1. Make sure you have enough money inside.
2. Make sure you already verified your card with the merchant
(sime merchant will do a charged of say RM1 to your card with specific code). You need to check it out with the seller (amazon in this case).
3 Use PayPal.

I tried and the rate was quite crappy. 1sgd to RM3.0508 while other money changer at RM3.03.

Thanks for the head up. I will do a comparison soon for MYR - > SGD for BigPay and it's 2 other competitors.

QUOTE(BigPayJonathan @ Sep 25 2019, 10:04 AM)
From our website:
Exchange rates for international bank transfers shouldn't be compared with money exchangers but rather with other remittance providers.
*
I compared instarem with money changers and they are more or less same with money changers. Hence instarem have always be my go to choice for overseas tranafer (if you want to take note).

If your rates are better, you will earn yourself a permanent customer for foreign transfer.

If we have Singapore bank account , which options make more sense and cheaper?
1)direct withdraw at Singapore using bigpay card
2)remit to Singapore bank account using big pay, then withdraw using Singapore ATM card?
*
Use the card for everyday transactions (MRT + bus)
Why do you need to remit money to Singapore (I am assuming you are working there)? As others mentioned, there are cheaper ways to remit money to SG. Shop around and see. SG is a country which is quite card friendly except for their hawker stalls which are still using cash.

Just use the card when you are there. Draw out cash if you need. Until a time when their rates is good then yes use remittance.
