Hmm, at the moment no. She didn't mention anything about it.
Plan to have a dashcam installed for her ride before the month is over though.
I might do some DIY detailing/waxing on a small section this weekend if time permits, and see if able to enhance the gloss + remove some of those ugly swirl marks.
Haha she's lucky you're capable of the DIY waxing. I'm a complete noob, thus doing the coating
yeah, I also installed the dashcam, now just done wiring because of my tint, so can't put up the dashcam on the windscreen yet. have to wait two weeks
Actually DIY also cos started many years ago. Still learning till this day and trying out many new products also.
The coating does look nice la cos I have been viewing a lot of coating videos on my FB [it's like they know how to entice me each time I log in] whether it's Ceramic Pro/Magnus/G-Techniq, and lately, they even recommended me those less than RM400-900 type of coatings... So cheap till I feel weird on its effectiveness.
Which dashcam did you opt for in the end?
I'm waiting to install Thinkware. A bit pricey but safety first!
For coating, I use Sierra Glow. I've never done one so, I have no experience about it. But hopefully can help the car looks nice for a number of years with minimal effort from my side
Dashcam, I'm using iRoad X10. First time user also, can't say much about it. Just following @xAmdx suggestions
Yup, dashcam is an essential kit for the car these days.
For now just adopt a wait & see approach. She's still getting used to the car as she moved from the 1st gen Myvi.
That's a good dashcam. I'm sure it'll come in handy if and when the need arises.
Hmm, a lot have the misconception that coating = lesser maintenance.
Actually it works the opposite. As you'll notice more water beads [I call them alien eggs] on your ride each time it rains, and if you don't move it/wash it and just leave these water beads to dry, it will leave a lot of dirt on the surface.
If your ride has been coated, it should have similar effects to the below:
My car doesn't have a coating but I have several products or chemical on it so it gives a similar effect to coating.
Washing them would be to use car wash soap or just rinse with water?
Thanks so much for the enlightenment. Tbh if I wash my car weekly that’s already an achievement 🤣
I veli hardworking washing my car weekly. Just that I save my time in waxing. Now it’s about 2 months since I coated my car and I had made a appointment to go touch up.
Its depends on each individual and I am a near perfectionist, so I know I need to spend half day if I do it on my own coz I spend 2-3 hours washing.
Hats off to you bro! I wish I’m that committed as well. Perhaps this new shark will change me a bit 😅
How many times can you go back to Sierra glow for touch ups and polishing?
Test drive both cx5 n cx30. Omg, cx30 drive like a sedan feel even it is suv. Interior quality 1 level above cx5.
But too bad it is cbu, so value for money n practicality will get a cx5.
I think there is a lot of people go to see cx30 and end up book cx5...haha
A good marketing strategy fr mazda.
I did the same... test drive both cars. I do agree on the interior, CX-30 is definitely a class above the CX-5. So premium and luxurious!
However, in my case I find that the CX-30 to be a bit cramped, both as a driver and the back seat passanger. I need a car that does not make me feel claustrophobic and will be able to carry 4 adults comfortably in a long distance journey. Plus, the boot space is a win for CX-5.
That's how I ended up buying one guess the marketing strategy really works!
This will be my first time as there is water mark on the back bumper area which require to be polish off. So I just give them a call to make a appointment. Since you had done as well, you can quote your vehicle or the serial number on the sticker that is stick on the windscreen to them to make one. Bear in mind it’s unlimited time polish and touch up within 5 years.
Ohhh unlimited polishing & touch ups in 5 years, that’s brilliant! I shall try to make time for that since it’s quite far from my house to Sierra glow in penang 🤔
Technically since you have an active coat, rinsing those dust and beads away with running water will do. Of course, some folks prefer to touch up or apply a 'topper' layer on the coat either thru spray waxes or quick detailers which often gives the car a 'freshly waxed wet look' style.
So long your car doesn't look so dirty after the rinsing, then ought to be just fine. Wow, vacuum and polish the interiors too. Salute you bro.
I tend to skip vacuum stages.
Hmm, drying 30-40mins? Wow...
Mind sharing your steps? I usually dry with a large drying towel once I hose down the car, it usually takes me about 10-15mins on my Myvi and add another 10 mins or so for the CX5 cos of the height.
Phewww! Hopefully just rinsing would be good enough during the weekdays lol only have time to wash on weekends 😅
Yea, the CX30 is quite a looker. Base spec rims look tiny though whilst the pricing for the High against the CX5 makes the CX5 a more attractive option for potential buyers.
Hopefully they decide to launch the CKD version if the numbers are good. The CX8 must be doing quite well for it to be launched as CKD too. Rinsing should suffice and do dry it properly too instead of leaving the water on the surface to dry/evaporate - otherwise you might start seeing dust marks on your ride. Congrats bro on taking the plunge.
On your query regarding coating. There are pros and cons. So in your case, since you did share that time is essential, the benefits of having a coat may take precedence. Having said that, as I'd shared in an earlier post, many have the misconception that a coated car = less maintenance. Yes, the car is gonna bead like crazy and the gloss levels looks impressive, but do not let those beads dry off on your ride especially if it's parked outdoors and exposed to our humid weather.
My car is 'coated' too, but DIY cos I use a lot of spray waxes/sealants on my car to test and the effect after the rain looks astonishing.
But once you neglect the car, those dried rain beads will leave unsightly marks on your car.
Hope this helps yea.
And if you would like to have some idea about coating packages, you can watch a video from Osren's Youtube. It's quite informative.
Bro Tiger, you did mention of using Soft99 products. If you don't mind, can you please share which product you're using? I understand that Soft99 is a Japanese product. Hope to get your feedback
I noticed you mentioned Penang in an earlier post. Are you staying there? There's a seller on Shopee who's based in Penang who deals a lot with several detailing items - Soft 99 one of them.
Depending on what you need, I have had quite good experiences with their products, and they're not so expensive too.
1. Black Black - tyre coating. This is like a tyre coat which lasts longer in our weather and doesn't come off easily even in rain. So far been using it for > half year with occasional top ups and my tyres still look glossy
2. Mirror Coat Zero - basically creates a layer of film/barrier on your side mirrors to prevent any water from sticking to it. Leaves a white milky layer on your side mirrors though, but it really helps a lot in our rainy weather vs having a side mirror with a lot of water beads.
As you can see from the photo, although taken from inside the car during rain, my side mirrors are still 'dry' and able to see clearly [gotta click the pic to see it in full]
3. Glaco/Ultra Glaco - glass coating. It's similar to Rain X. I believe if your car has a coating already, this product may be redundant. Helps to prevent oil and water to stick to the windscreen/glass areas. Anyways, here's a video I took few days ago to show how the water doesn't stick at all to the glass/paint:
Btw, since coating it, I rarely use my wipers anymore. I know some have asked about wipers juddering but I've never encountered it so far. The wipers glide very smoothly during the times I accidentally use the left stalk instead of signal.
4. Fusso Coat F7 - like a coating. Apply by hand using their provided sponge applicator and buff off with towel. Works like a 'coating' also. Lasts longer than normal spray waxes.
5. Speed & Barrier - my new toy. Been testing it out over the past week or so, refer video above. Haha. Works like a spray to 'top up' the coating if you have Fusso F7 applied already. Just spray on and wipe.
I do have a few other Soft 99 items in use but these are the ones I'm actively using now.
Hope this helps.
I'm staying in Alor Setar, but was working in Penang for nearly 10 years. It's my birthplace too since my father is a Penangite
Thanks so much bro Tiger for the lengthy and detailed explanation on the Soft99 products . Will get my hands on some of them soon. Yeah, their pricing is affordable which is a plus for me.
Bro PJS, I highly appreciate your lengthy and detailed explanation on coating. It's an eye opener for a beginner like me. Thanks so very much
May I know what brand of coating are you using? I've coated mine with Sierra Glow (the cheapest option). Is this the same as nano coating you've mentioned in your post?
I coated both my new Mazdas with Ceramic Pro. It's not too expensive, between 1.8 to 2k for the 5 year warranty 3 layers dunno what gold or silver package during their promo. 7 year warranty with 5 layers and interior coating goes for a lot more I didn't bother to ask. I think Sierra Glow also about this price range with similar level of service.
After all, where else can you get 5 years of easy maintenance and shine at this kind of price, with unlimited touch up if water beading deteriorates during the 5 years, plus free recoating if you repainted some panels due to accident or dents?
Yeah, mine is about 1.8k with 5 years warranty as you've put it. I thought of doing this because tbh, I don't have much time to polish my car, quite occupied but I love my car and I want it to look shiny and polished in many years to come.
I was wondering, if I wash my car using wash and wax shampoo, is it ok? Will it harm the coating done?
Yes kak, Sierra glow is nano coating as well. For car shampoo, I think is safer to use PH neutral shampoo as it won’t affect the coating. I think meguairs gold class shampoo is ph neutral too but I choose to use autoglym. Actually is not exp, I bought the autoglyM uhd car shampoo, instead of using 4 cups for 20l of water , I am using 2 cups for 10l of water as it’s sufficient for me to clean the car. It will last for a while till I finish it.
I used Meg wash & wax. Very little is needed indeed to wash the whole car. Washed it this morning cuz my parents are keen to get a ride later in the evening 😂😂
Wallaweyyy that “kak” just blew off my cover 🤦🏻♀️😂
I hardly see any dust in my car nowadays. It takes me 5 mins to wipe down the interior. Vacuum the carpets maybe once a month. Are you still using the coil mats that Bermaz supplied? Those yucky coil mats trap all the dust on our shoes and blow throughout the car. I told my SA DO NOT install those coil mats on my car, I brought my own 3D Maxpider mats that I bought and fitted the mats when I collect my new car. I rinse those mats whenever it gets some sand or soil. Clean floormats kept my car pretty much dust free.
Oh btw, I got a set of original unopened Mazda floor mats to let go. Anybody wanna make an offer?
Wanted to change the mat too, but maybe later. I haven’t even driven my new ride to work lol 🤣 Will do this Sunday
I was wondering what sort of upgrades you lads did on your sharks that will not void the warranty? Would like to hear them tips and tricks. Oh, what do we have to be aware of during the scheduled service done at SC? Just want to make sure they’re following the standard procedures across all SCs.
My car kambing soon ❤️ Tmr go inspect a bit then Weds do coating, Thursday should be can get d kot.. loans all done d . Anything to look out for guys ? I mean checking the car.. thx 🙏
Welcome to the club bro! Hope you'll love your shark and zoom-zoom around happily yaa
Btw, whilst on my way to Putrajaya from Alor Setar today I saw at least two double trailers loaded with Mazda CX-5, presumably coming out from the assembly plant in Kulim. Seems that business is booming at Mazda
Haha I’m just doing the normal stuff. I bought Meguiars product for leather, wheel cleaner, UV protection also the tyre shine product. My car shampoo is also Meguiars.
So far I’m consistent in washing the car once a week. And I do the detailing for leather, tyres and other surfaces once a fortnight.
I’m quite lucky since I’ve been transferred to a new office and they have multi-level parking lots.
Other than that, not much 😂😂 since I’ve done coating with Sierra Glow so, no polishing for me 😁
Hopefully I’ll stay diligent in taking care of my car hehe
