its been confirmed that Totti is going to hav a surgery later 2day for the torn ligaments, n expected out til October... oh my, thats a HUGE blow for us. God helps us all.

n now another twist in the takeover talks : some Arab parties reported to "doubled" Soros' offer, n the Sensi family hav asked Soros to match the bid. from the news, sounds like Soros was kinda pissed, but still indicated that there will b further negotiation.

looks like we will hav a new owner no matter what now.

Roma confirm Soros talks
Tuesday 22 April, 2008

Roma have now confirmed that Hungarian-born billionaire and philanthropist George Soros is interested in buying the club.

Italpetroli, the company which owns 67 per cent of the Giallorossi, yesterday denied having received a bid from any foreign investors.

But Roma have today released a statement acknowledging that: "An interview and exploratory meeting took place last week with a representative from Inner Circle Sports."

According to the Italian Press, Steve Horowitz, Inner Circle Sports' Finance and Marketing Executive, was in Rome last week on Soros' behalf.

Corriere dello Sport claims another conference could be set-up next week between the two parties to further discuss an offer and the sale of Italpetroli's holding stake.

Italpetroli is said to be struggling to pay the interest on a loan taken out with the Italian bank Unicredit.

Meanwhile, Roma are thought to be planning to invest any extra income in Inter striker Hernan Crespo, who has reportedly fallen out with Nerazzurri Coach Roberto Mancini.

The former Lazio forward is said to favour a move back to the capital, as his wife Mari Pascuala is a Roman native.

Totti continues rapid recovery
Tuesday 22 April, 2008

Roma captain Francesco Totti is already back on his feet after undergoing knee surgery following Saturday's 1-1 draw with Livorno.

Er Pupone damaged ligaments in his right knee during the Week 34 match, but is recovering at a record pace after surgery.

"I will be back running in 20 days. I am following the therapy. Now I have begun to walk and do a few steps with the help of a guardian.

"How will I pass the time? I'll be in bed, but I'll be running again soon," enthused the former Italy international.

The 31-year-old Giallorossi icon is still expected to be out for four months, despite the optimism of surgeon Professor Pierpaolo Mariani.

The loss of Totti has seriously hampered Roma's title ambitions. Saturday's draw with bottom side Livorno allowed rivals Inter to go six points clear at the top of Serie A.

Speculation that the club will be sold is also unsettling La Magica, with constant speculation over a potential takeover from billionaire George Soros.

Milan chief and Italian President Silvio Berlusconi has also become involved, with his spokesman angrily denying reports he was attempting to block the sale to a foreign investor.

"It's impossible to think that a man like Berlusconi, who loves football, can be against an operation of this type. It's an urban legend, completely invented," argued Paolo Bonaiuti.

Totti: Scudetto is over
Tuesday 22 April, 2008

From his hospital bed after knee surgery, Francesco Totti admits the Scudetto has slipped from Roma's grasp. "It's 99 per cent over."

The Giallorossi were just four points adrift going into the last round, but the 1-1 home draw with Livorno and Inter's victory at Torino widened the gap to six points with four matches to go.

"The Scudetto? It's going to be difficult. It's 99 per cent over," the captain told RAI Uno television.

"There are four games left and we have six points to claw back. We must be realistic in life. We fought until the end, but slipped up against Livorno and it ended there."

It was an impressive challenge considering a few months ago Inter were 11 points clear, but in the end their inability to beat the small sides - drawing both games with bottom of the table Livorno - proved decisive.

To make matters worse, during Saturday's match Totti was stretchered off with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and has now undergone surgery.

The four-month absence won't matter for Euro 2008 as Totti has already retired from international duty, but he has an idea on who should be called up.

"The statistics and current form speak for Alessandro Del Piero. He is proving that he is a top champion and it is difficult to leave behind someone playing like that."

Juventus captain Del Piero has not played for the Azzurri for some time, as he refused to be played out of position as a wide midfielder rather than his usual support striker role.

De Rossi Roma for life
Thursday 24 April, 2008

Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi is close to signing a contract with the Giallorossi for life according to sources close to the club.

The 24-year-old, who was born in Ostia just outside of Rome, is expected to succeed Francesco Totti as captain of the Lupi once his fellow Roman retires.

De Rossi has already worn the captain's armband on a number of occasions since March 15, 2006, when he led the Giallorossi out against Middlesbrough in the UEFA Cup.

Il Romanista, Roma's daily newspaper, today reported that De Rossi will put pen-to-paper on a deal said to be worth £3.2m a season, excluding bonuses and other incentives.

Since current Coach Luciano Spalletti took control of the capital club three years ago De Rossi has been an ever-present, making 144 appearances for the Giallorossi.

The World Cup winner is one of a host of local youngsters to come through the ranks at Trigoria and his father Andrea is in charge of Roma's Primavera side.

Totti on road to miracle recovery
Saturday 26 April, 2008

Francesco Totti's recovery from knee ligament surgery is proceeding very well, according to medical staff. "It doesn't even look as if it has been operated on."

The Roma captain underwent surgery on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee last Sunday evening and is expected to be out of action for four to six months.

"Francesco is doing very well and is continuing the rehabilitation process," explained Giallorossi chief medic Mario Brozzi.

"The knee has responded positively and doesn't even look as if it has been operated on. He is walking normally without protection and can even flex the knee.

"There is everything to suggest one of those record recoveries that Totti is already accustomed to."

The now retired Italian international fractured his ankle just over two years ago and made a remarkable recovery to play in the 2006 World Cup.

Doctor Brozzi also commented on the physical condition of Alberto Aquilani, who has had a series of setbacks in his brief career so far.

"On Friday he trained without problems. We had set him a comeback date of four weeks and that seems to be the case.

"He has been running for a while and now the pain he had at the top of his foot is abating. I can say Aquilani's recovery is pretty much complete."

Soros to make Roma 'new Man U'
Saturday 26 April, 2008

Amid reports George Soros wants to turn Roma into a world-renowned marketing brand, the club issues another denial of negotiations.

The newspapers in Italy are confident American-based millionaire Soros will buy out the Giallorossi over the next few weeks.

While so far the talk has been about transfer policy, the Gazzetta dello Sport now suggests he plans to revamp their merchandising policy.

Italian clubs do not generally sell many products with their brand name aside from the basics such as football jerseys.

Soros, it is reported, would like to transform Roma into a Manchester United-style world-renowned brand in the European, U.S and South American markets.

It was also reported this morning in several newspapers that a crunch meeting with Soros will take place next week.

This is because on April 30 the deadline for the loan from bank Unicredit worth £258m is due and it is claimed the financial institution called in the Sensi family to understand their intentions.

However, in the afternoon Roma released another statement categorically denying there was a link between the debt with Unicredit and “any presumed necessity to sell our controlling share of A.S. Roma. There is no meeting due with Unicredit and anyone suggesting otherwise is attempting to adversely affect the price of the shares.”

boring 2nd half, nothing much to say apart that Juan's red card was kinda harsh to me, n the ref 'forgot' to sent off Dellafiore after he being shown the 2nd yellow. wow.

anyway good win there to hold up our position. great 1st half display from Vucinic.

George Soros. Which means great news for Roma, great news for Serie A, not so great for Milan, Roma will finally have the money to be more competitive in the market thus becoming even more competitive in the rest of competitions, and roma are targeting several objectives and they'll be able to keep their important players that could also be market targets for another teams..
