ah finally Serie A action is coming back this weekend. i missed the boys.
now it looks like Totti might hav a chance to make it this time. he started train lightly, n everything seem to be ok so far. anyway its still far from certain so we'll see by saturday.
oh btw December is coming, n again all those transfer rumours are coming up... 1 of them is that we might strike a deal with Lyon to swap Mancini for Govou. WTF ?
AS Roma left-back Max Tonetto has signed a two-year contract extension that ties him to the Serie A club until June 2010.
Reward Tonetto, who turned 33 last weekend, has appeared eleven times in Serie A and made three UEFA Champions League appearances for the Giallorossi this season. He joined Roma in 2006 in what is the ninth stop of an itinerant career, much of it spent at clubs with a lesser profile, and his efforts for the Giallorossi earned him an international debut in June in Italy's 2-1 victory over the Faroe Islands. European goal Roma, who are three points behind leaders FC Internazionale Milano in Serie A, can seal their place in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 next week when they visit FC Dynamo Kyiv. Luciano Spalletti's side are guaranteed progress with a victory, although they can also advance by simply matching Sporting Clube de Portugal's result at Manchester United FC.
its was a kinda poor performance from the boys, n we won it by a laz minute header from Panucci - juz like what he did for Azzurri against Scotland. well we were without Totti, Mexes, Aquilani, Perrotta, n Taddei, so getting the 3 points is really a relief here.
credit to the backline 2day. Doni played pretty well.
so wif that win we're thru to next round. nice game.
well initially Vucinic got the hattrick... but somehow UEFA credit the 1st goal to Panucci... i tot Vucinic suppose to hav a touch there. well anyway a brace is still great.
nice all-round performance there from the boys, although we were being pushed back in early stage of the 2nd half. apart from Vucinic, Giuly n Tonetto had a very good game too.
ROME, Nov 29 (Reuters) - AS Roma striker Francesco Totti denied reports on Thursday that he is ready to return to international action, saying comments he made in jest have been misinterpreted.
The Roma captain told GQ magazine that he would be willing to come out of international retirement for Euro 2008 if Italy coach Roberto Donadoni needed him because of injuries to other players. 'I was asked for fun, if I would go to the European championship if all the forwards got injured,' Totti told the Gazzetta dello Sport's website.
'I was asked an absurd question and I gave an absurd answer. That does not mean I have changed my mind about my future with the national team. It's a closed chapter.' Totti took a break from international duty after picking up a 2006 World Cup winners' medal, but then announced he was quitting the national team completely in July this year.
'This clarification is necessary out of respect to my (former) team mates, who deservedly qualified for Euro 2008,' said the 31-year-old, who made 58 appearances for Italy scoring nine goals.
Totti returns for Udinese Saturday 1 December, 2007 Francesco Totti is surprisingly included in the Roma squad set to take on Udinese this weekend.
The captain has been out of action since bruising the top of his foot and ankle in a 2-1 Champions League win over Sporting Lisbon on October 23.
He has barely trained since then, but the construction of a specially made prototype boot seems to have done the trick.
"Based on the latest tests done by Doctor Brozzi at the Villa Stuart clinic, Francesco's situation has not deteriorated," explained Coach Luciano Spalletti.
"After training we will evaluate whether it is wise to play him from the start. We have time to consider our options."
Totti had been expected to return for Wednesday's rescheduled Serie A match with Cagliari, but Spalletti named him in the squad to take on Udinese as well.
Daniele De Rossi is also in the side after recovering from an ankle injury he picked up during Tuesday's 4-1 win at Dynamo Kiev, while Philippe Mexes returns from concussion.
Luciano Spalletti explains why he thinks Francesco Totti is ready for his comeback against Udinese this afternoon.
"If Totti is in the squad then it is because the latest test results were positive," assured the Roma Coach.
The captain has been out of action since badly bruising the top of his foot and ankle in the 2-1 Champions League victory over Sporting Lisbon on October 23. However, this week the medical staff helped create a specially constructed football boot to lessen the impact of movement on the injured area.
"After the training session the situation did not deteriorate and I saw him motivated and hungry, even if we still need to evaluate his overall condition," continued Spalletti.
Amantino Mancini should also be back in the starting XI after he was surprisingly dropped for the midweek 4-1 win away to Dynamo Kiev. This prompted reports the Brazilian was set to join rivals Inter in January.
"I hope he listens more to me than he does to you journalists, because he only missed one game and that can happen. As far as I am concerned, nobody is taking Mancini as long as I am at Roma."
This is going to be a special match for Spalletti, who had some of the best years of his coaching career at Udinese. "This is a team that knows how to play good football and has a city that allows it to help youngsters mature.
"Fabio Quagliarella has returned to his role as a centre-forward, as he is a complete player, while Antonio Di Natale has exceptional talent and is deservedly a first choice for the Italy side.
"Victory would be very important for Roma, as it would allow us to leapfrog Udinese in the standings."

Juan 10 ®, Quagliarella 12 (U), Taddei 27 ® Stadio Olimpico Luciano Spalletti defeated his former club in a tight encounter that saw two red cards.
Spalletti faced his old club and the Friulani were flying high, having already earned results against Inter, Juventus, Milan, Fiorentina and Lazio this season. Francesco Totti was back in the squad for the first time since injuring his ankle on October 23, although he remained on the bench, but Alberto Aquilani and the suspended Matteo Ferrari were sidelined. Udinese had Diaz Felipe on a ban.
Roma had the first chance after less than two minutes, Mirko Vucinic getting to the byeline for a shot parried at the near post.
It was Brazilian defender Juan who broke the deadlock. A corner was passed to the edge of the area for Ludovic Giuly's strike that turned into an assist for Juan. Samir Handanovic managed to parry the first attempt from point-blank range, but could do nothing on the second.
The lead lasted all of 90 seconds, as Fabio Quagliarella gathered with his back to goal on the edge of the box and spun round to place a low right-foot daisy-cutter into the bottom near corner.
Udinese risked turning it all around when Alexander Doni flew to parry a Inler rocket and then got one hand to Quagliarella's follow-up, even though the striker was offside.
Instead Rodrigo Taddei marked his Olimpico comeback after two months out injured. Lukovic did well to close down Giuly, but the ball kept ricocheting around the box until it fell to Taddei for an angled drive.
Christian Panucci had been rested, but came on when Marco Cassetti picked up a muscular problem.
After the break Udinese threatened an equaliser, Doni having his palms stung by a D'Agostino snapshot.
Vucinic almost made Handanovic pay dearly for an error, as he rushed off his line and left the goal completely empty, but the angle was too tight and the ball rolled all the way across.
Cristian Zapata's intervention was crucial in preventing Vucinic from getting a tap-in from six yards, while Amantino Mancini should have done better when Handanovic slapped the ball off Vucinic's foot, but the goalkeeper also parried the follow-up
Juan attempted a spectacular backheel goal, flicking the ball just wide from Mancini's cross, then Daniele De Rossi's header was off target.
Udinese went down to 10 men, as substitute Giampiero Pinzi saw a straight red card just 15 minutes after coming on for scything through the back of Juan. He is a former Lazio youth product and made the mistake of letting his emotions get to him. They quickly went down to nine, as Dossena took his protests too far.
Incredibly, Udinese still nearly bagged an equaliser. Antonio Floro Flores rushed forward on the counter and Doni did well to parry the strike. Handanovic denied a Vucinic header late on.
