do not....i repeat DO NOT get Sennheisers for Metal.... imho its the worst combo ever. save ur money and get a Philips SHP2500 for around RM80. that would do much better for metal than any Senn. unless of course u wanna fall asleep listening to metal then go ahead and get a senn.
i listen to metal and ive tried HD595 and HD650...both utter crap when it comes to metal.
DT990 works well for metal...especially for songs with fast double paddles. only thing is... the mids are a little recessed but this is only noticeable when directly compared with other headphones such as the Grados or in my case, HD650. but if u cant take rich highs.. then dont think the DT990 is for u. the DT990 is definitely a fun headphone. gives out just the right amount of energy for metal making it very enjoyable.
since comfort is an issue... trust me the DT990 will be 1 of the most comfortable headphones uve ever had on ur head.
as for ur grado...since u already have it...if u have the know how...u can always transplant it into a cheap headphone like i did with my KSC-75 (click Franken PhilKoss in siggy)

need or not depending on u man anyway...i remember reading in head-fi...someone managed to mod Beyer pads (or some other brand...but circumaural pads la) onto a grado... all he needed was a cardboard, the pads, and i forgot how he stuck it to the headphones itself... the extra distance supposedly helped to increase soundstage too This post has been edited by mADmAN: Jan 6 2008, 09:08 PM

QUOTE(kev da man @ Jan 7 2008, 05:54 PM) extra distance = more soundstage??? O.o yup...the pad helped to distance the drivers more from the ear. and with the grados it seemed to help with the soundstage. and i have to say this is true... coz my PhilKoss mod put the KSC75's drivers further away from my ear... it really did help with making the soundstage wider. thought not THAT significant.. its still more than noticeable

QUOTE(Blackhart @ Jan 19 2008, 03:29 PM) I need some earphones for walking, when taking trains and in the gym.The stock iPod earphones sound to tinny for me, my priority is great sound quality for excellent value. I normally use PX100 but it is troublesome take take out and keep and also could absorb sweat, so I guess I need some earbuds for these purposes. Any recommendations guys? if u want earbuds then the Yuin is hard to beat in terms of sound quality.... expensive though. but for the usage ur talking about... IEMs would be a better choice... and the crossroad mylars are the best bang for buck around.

the reason i say IEMs would be a better choice is mainly for isolation...especially while taking that noisy noisy train. so with isolation...ur more than likely to NOT hear announcements and people calling you

QUOTE(zamarano @ Feb 3 2008, 06:52 PM) wich one i should get CX-300 , Xbi or this 2nd hand IM716 http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/615959my budget around 300 and i'm listening to gothic and metal ive heard the X3 and it was amazing with Cradle of Filth... it also did very well with any other metal songs i threw at it. so the X3i would probably be a step up from the X3. but ive never listened to any of the 3 u mentioned above

headphones that connect direct thru optical? i doubt theres any in the market unless those headphones come with a built in DAC. at least none worth mentioning. ur gonna need an external DAC like the Zero or Zhaolu to convert the digital signal in the optical to analog. then ur gonna need something to amplify that signal so that u can actually hear wats converted. for RM500, Zero DAC (RM410) + Phillips SHP2700 (RM80) This post has been edited by mADmAN: Feb 11 2008, 07:51 PM

QUOTE(mengsuan @ Feb 12 2008, 09:00 PM) Hello! I want to buy a headphone/earphone priced about RM50 to RM200. Currently my choice are Philips SHP895, Philips SHP8900, Creative HQ-1400, Creative HQ-1700, Koss PortaPro and Yuin PK3. I prefer head/earphone with wide soundstage, clear and tight bass. I don't need boomy bass. A good example of my type of music are Michael Buble's songs. Which headphone or earphone fits me best? Are there any other better phones that I can buy with the same range of budget? i guess for that budget u could get the X3i which are in ear monitors. circumaural headphones for under 200 a lil tough. the only one i usually recommend under 200 would be the philips shp2700 (RM80) coz thats the only one im familiar with...or perhaps u could top up a lil and get both x3i and shp2700??

u need to get an amp....although the K701 has low impedance it really needs an amp to properly shine...
also dont expect to get superb boom boom like a 12" sub woofer from the K701....they tend to have a very neutral sound signature...flat across the graph.
u wan bass in a headphone then the DT770 is the only way to go.

cant think of anything under 300 other than the Grado SR60 but that is said to be lacking in bass...
or mebbe can check out the Audio Technica and Sennheiser headphones in the bulk section...might have something that fits ur budget.

if ur in singapore, i suggest going over to Adelphi (opposite Funan shopping centre) and go up to the 4th floor. look for Jaben Network. its a shop specializing in headphones. tell them what u want and wats ur budget and they should be able to recommend some to u. also bring ur own player if possible as then u can test out the headphones all u like. if u say u dont have the time...trust me, ull WANT to find the time...

never tried any of them and im not a fan of sennheiser. im the exact and total opposite of "Sennheiser fanboy"... never liked their sound signature... ES3 and ES5... no idea what they are...are they Audio Technicas? if they are.. then for them but its been said that AT sound signature is an acquired taste

I dont care the brand. As long long it is in good quality. TQ as above... Crossroads MylarOne X3i or XBi if u like heavy bass.
