I bought & uses 3rd party AC adaptors for 2 reasons:
1. I like to keep the original AC adaptor unused, so easier to convince the buyer that the router is still new
2. Because I like to use AC adaptor that provides higher amps, so whenever the router request for extra power, the AC adaptor can definitely provide it
Yes, it's safe to use to use a 3rd party AC adaptor that supplies the same voltage at higher amps
What you can't do is use a 3rd party AC adaptor that supplies higher / lower voltage but with lower amps
