Is anyone having keyboard issue on your 2018 Macbook Pro with 3rd gen keyboard?
I am having several issues: 1. Letters or characters repeat unexpectedly 2. Letters or characters do not appear 3. Key(s) feel "sticky" or do not respond in a consistent manner
The new 2018 Macbook Pro isn't covered under the keyboard replacement program, so I sent it to AASP, hopefully they give free service as its still under warranty.
Will AASP offer a new Macbook if the issue persist?

Is there any other way? Also, can they backup and restore my data of my mac is locked with file vault? I think they will wipe the SSD and my data is gone?

Since its still under warranty I am not that worried. But once its expired (after 3 years with extended), replacing the keyboard will cost RM2800+- This is worrying. Since an average person will use their laptop for 5 years? Any advice?

The best solution i see so far for MBP2018 & MBA2018 is to use an external BLUETOOTH keyboard. Conlanfirm you wont run any risk of damaging the 3rd gen keyboard in the long run. And no, i am not trolling. Disappointed to see even 3rd gen macbook laptop keyboard still have the sticky/stuck problems. Perhaps i should reconsider getting lenovo thinkpad x1 carbon 6th gen. The keyboard experience on that laptop is awesome.

QUOTE(destfull @ Jan 1 2019, 11:31 PM) Where did you got that number. It's been all over the news, the replacement would cost up to $700 usd. There are youtubers who shared the invoices. That's why there's a lawsuit. https://www.techrepublic.com/article/apple-...-700-to-repair/

RM2800 is very expensive to replace the keyboard only I am using external Bluetooth when at home. Plan to get Apple Care protection before end of 1st year warranty. Then worry free for 1+2 warranty Frankly speaking, surface parts also expensive. But at least Apple not as troublesome compare to surface.

RM2800 is very expensive to replace the keyboard only Because they change the whole top case plus battery. Same case when you want to change battery only. They will still change whole top case due to its design. It’s design flaw, which may be intentionally or not intentionally.

It’s design flaw, which may be intentionally or not intentionally. Other than using external keyboards, i’ve seen some people using keyboard cover. some are made of silicon and some are TPU material. I wonder if this is cheaper alternative to protect the keyboard from having stuck/sticky keys problem? Any users here got use keyboard cover? Will it damage your screen on the long run?
