Hi riders~
i am thinking to try oval chainring like the rotor q-ring or doval~
the reason being is when i read through some user experience, it helps to reduce muscle cramp and i am easily cramp type of person~ So far i only see one user mention this benefits. Other than that, the most common advantage is improving pedaling at dead spot. The disadvantage could be the shifting quality might not be as good as round chainring.
So anyone of you are oval chainring user? can share abit on your experience and would you recommend it?
Using qring at #3 position, middle one. First ride after change crank and qring terus go climb up mayor Hill bukit tunku. At the 1-4 o clock crank position fuh quads on fire sial 😂. But after awhile got used to it. On flats smooth pedaling cos less dead spots. Probably won't go back to round cranks. Also cos my spare chainring is anodized red qrings, once current one worn out gonna change to that, handsome.
In terms of shifting, I had some fd rub at extreme cross chain angles on my old bike. Got hit by a car early this year, changed bike, now new frame better shifting and less fd rubbing. Probably due to chainstay length difference between the 2 bikes, longer chainstay chain angle not as extreme. Summary, if wanna go for oval, try la. But give time to adapt, and maybe need to play around. Another friend can't use qring at #3 position, prefers #4 or 5 position.
