guys.. just wanna check.. is it normal to not able to pedal comfortably on flat road on the highest gear (50T - 11T)? i found myself not able to hold the pedaling for more than 5 min.. and what is the normal speed on flat road for a road bike? i just tested on Kesas yesterday.. still around 26-28km/h only if I pedal slightly harder..
*
Not many I know can hold 50-11 for long tbh

Its hard for amateurs, need lots of training(both core and endurance) and properly fitted bicycle to do that. Best is to make sure that your cadence is around 80 to 95 RPM all the time.

Water bladder: please, no
Multiple bottles: yes, depends on individual. Some people requires none for 40KM, while some requires more than 2 bottles. On group rides, we always stop by the petrol station to re-hydrate, refill our bottles

Cadence is measured by a cadence sensor. You may get from lazada for about rm60-80 and bluetooth ready. Can pair it with Strava. That's the cheapest setup I could think off. Otherwise, you may get a cycling computer. Easier for you to check the current cadence.

Regarding the water bottle, I bring 1 bottle only even for long 100-200km ride because I know my route. Most of my cycling route, there will be Petro stations or place for me to refill in almost every 30-40km at most. So, I dont need 2 bottles of water - it just makes the bike heavier. icon_idea.gif icon_idea.gif

Well... I usually do 2-3 stops depending on where I ride... and yes, for me I need to still top up one of my water bottles and refuelled.

For 80km I usually do stop once or twice to have a quick bite and refill.

Not to worry too much on the distance, if joining for the first time, my advice is don't concern about the timing, aim to complete, gain some experience and most important have fun smile.gif

Normally race has water stations and for 80KM, most likely they will have 1 or 2 water stations where you could either stop to fill up your bottles or just grab the mineral water bottle which there are holding while cycling. Some even have bananas by the water stations. Its up to you and worst case, just stop by petrol station to grab some water. Every race has broom truck where they pick up riders who couldnt make it to the certain certain place by certain time and the riders will be brought back to the starting point by lorry.

Just by experience, for 160KM race, I always carry 3 bottles with me, 2 on the bicycle and 1 at the back pocket of the jersey and at the same time, ill grab water from water stations as well.

Race will give you a different experience as you will be riding in a big group and your average speed will be higher than usual. Just go and enjoy it and it could be a motivation as well for you to do better next time smile.gif

I also same like you when I started last time. Over the time, my body need less water and also I know that my usual route of cyling will be Petro station or any shop for me to refill. So, I dont need 2 bottle as 1 bottle could last about 30-70km or so depending on the weather.

I usually do 50km intense ride (yeah intense for me, probably not for others) with 1 stop at km 30 for refill and break around 10 mins or so. When I go for event like 120-200 km, I just stop 2-3 times for refill and some bananas or roti. BTW, I never been aiming for podium finish or top 10 or so but quickly finish the ride is a lot better than cycling slowly under the hot sun!

You should try join some events. It is fun. Since 45km is your regular distance, you may try same distance or a little bit more like 70-80km ride.

Sealants are highly unlikely to prevent a puncture due to the fact that road bikes air pressures are much higher than mountain bikes

What you could do is bring a spare tire with you for your rides

I have a tubular wheelset and the things I bring with me would be

Road patch and superglue with Vittoria pitstop(sealant) for training rides and for races I'll bring a spare tire 😂, so far alls good, nothing happened yet!

On flat can do 35-40+ if leg is strong enough.

Hi guys...am looking to replace my frame. Just found a hairline crack on my seat post and now the post creaks when I apply power....FML

So in the market to shop and have narrowed down to 2 frames
1) argon 18 gallium C's
2) BMC time machine slr02

Budget max is 6k for frame both of these I've narrowed down but am looking for kind input. I can't test them out coz I'm buying the frame....however measurement will fit my 177cm height.

Any riders that can share opinion to the above 2 frame ?

Yes....if you are weekend rider....not so easy to hold this gear on flat.....maybe few minute then u will slow down your cadence.

I only use this when there is some decline and I want to catch the guys Infront ...else usually 50t with the middle 22t cog
