Hello everybody..
I'm currently using a sedan Honda accord year 2011.
Since my family has expanded, I'm thinking of moving to a MPV.
With budget of 210K , in my mind I'm thinking of Toyota Estima 2016 or Honda Odyssey RC1.
Here , if you guys don't mind, can you share your opinions about my dilemma..
Or it's ok if your suggestion other than Estima price Odyssey.. maybe an Alphard or a Vellfire..but still below 210K budget..

Thanks in advance..

Assuming all of them brand new, just check the service schedule throughout the warranty period.

Bring your family members test drive them, I think that will be the best answer you could get. You are not gonna buy a car that they dun like, right?

You can also look into Kia Carnival, Hyundai Starex, Maxus G10, Sharan (if the discount is huge now)?

Odyssey is bumpy at the back seat, it is going to be a concern since u migrate from the comfortable accord. The fc around 9km/l. Test drive before you decide. I am driving 2014 model.

2014 model is RC or RB 3 ya bro?
I love RB model, but it's already too far behind la bro.now 2018, I'm afraid major change needed later on..

Heard alot that estima got many problems about the gearbox..that's why I'm looking for the opinion from this group.. hehe

Why not a brand new nissan serena? It looks good and well equipped.

Odyssey - driver oriented, smallest among all, exclusivity (the least on the road i think).

Vell/Alphard - most spacious, comfortable, quite unstable at high speed, feels luxurious for certain variants (pilot seats, home theater etc)

estima - somewhere in between the other two. It can carry 7/8 easily with a huge amount of trunk (bigger than Alphard/vell), more planted on the road, decent fc.

There is no winner here. You can only opt for the best if you know your needs. Those mpvs are meant for different group of people. I personally lean towards the estima as it is quite fun to drive and practical at the same time. However i think the latest facelift of estima isn't really worth its price. Its only got a new look but everything else is pretty much the same. 2014 NFL estima is the best looking among all in my opinion. Market price is around 160-170k for 2014/15 premium.

This really depends on your luck and how you choose your car. My dad's acr50 has been going strong for almost 4 years (made in 2012) without any major problems. Buying recon cars can be quite risky as you might be cheated by salesmen (confusing specs, tempered mileage, warranty issue etc.)

The only way to overcome this is by bringing your trusted mechanic along. Check the car thoroughly and test drive to sense any problems. Make sure it wasn't abused before. Once you have gotten the right unit, maintain it well and trust me it can serve you for years.

Good luck.

Early batches of ACR50 have power steering rack issue.
The gearbox? ya. need to handled gently.

My business partner ACR50 3.5 just changed the gearbox recently, recon gearbox with installation around RM5.5k
Then he sold his ACR50 3.5 for around 55k, it was year 2007 made.

Sometimes I wonder, is it better to go for older ACR50?
Tons of used engine and gearbox available, the resale value is already low, u will not lose much from there.

This is a a really good car. It is almost as comfortable as those Japanese mpvs and diesel engine is definitely a plus point. But being priced at almost the same as those Japanese recon, many tend to choose those recon due to its brand.

correct, if one is willing to move away from the branding stigma there's a better choice to choose

personally i'm not a big fan of boxy shaped mpvs, only the odyssey is fine

starex is outdated already design wise, and the frame itself is actually based on a commercial vehicle. the safety spec is not up to modern standards as well

right now the only korean mpv worth considering is the grand carnival

If your purpose is a good people mover with great fuel economy and performance even when hauling full capacity, no brainer, Kia Grand Carnival is the best choice. That turbodiesel with all that torque is no joke.

https://youtu.be/Vb3X7MLE0Bc

If you need to bergaya for raya, then no brainer buy the Toyota Alphard/Vellfire. Look like VVIP.

Edit: in the video he compares it to the Honda odyssey and the Toyota Tarago (Estima’s name in Australia)

well TS,
just get the car that fulfill your needs and also which design you like.. maintenance wise, on that price range maybe not so much different.. but with diesel engine you will get much more better performance with better fuel consumption.. that's all..

while other model either have better looking or VIP style or better handling for tight corners, but well this is family car right? who wanna whack the corner while bringing all family members with them?

that Vellfire 2.4 model seriously underpowered, i did drove it in town with stop and go traffic make the fuel consumption even worst.. you need at least 3.0 V6 model..

I think u meant 3.5 v6 right? actually 2.4 is sufficient for city driving and long distances occasionally. The v6 is the thirsty one if being driven in the city but aces on highways.

So if a lot in city and sometimes on highway - 2.4
if a lot of long distance travels - 3.5 v6

little experience to share. bought a recond 2.4L estima ACR50 about a month ago, and drove it to genting last week with my family, 4 adults, 3 kids, nicely occupied. smooth drive up to cable car station, no straggle in slope. After dropping of all the family members to take the cable car up to top hill, i alone drive the car up to sky avenue, the driving experience was even better, can easily overtake most of the cars, smooth cornering( maybe was due to that i had installed ultra racing bar and spring buffer).

Before this, i was comparing serena C27 with 2013 estima. chose estima is because of its outlook, built quality and also larger engine capacity.

i think a 2.4L vellfire can be added few add on items to increase its power for better driving experience, thing like throttle control, iridium spark plug, voltage stabilizer and grounding cable

Wow..nice explanation bro..I love the Odyssey rb3 model.. but it's already too far behind year 2013..that's y I put estima , Alphard and Vellfire(arround 210K) as my second option.. RC 1, I still need more samples with bidykits to Poisson me..

just want to share, my friend bought vellfire golden eyes ii 2.4 about 215k, but its recond. and he got 1 year warranty from the dealer. then my bro in law bought the new kia grand carnival 2.2 turbo diesel for about 160k, having drove and rode these two, i prefer the kia grand carnival since it has more pickup and more torque. and i feel its more comfortable and more spacious. plus its brand new with 5 years unlimited mileage warranty if im not mistaken, so u can have a peace of mind. with ur budget u can go for the full specs about 190k. but i recommend u to test drive both.

Couldn't agree more. the 2.2 td in carnival beats the vellfire's 2.4 anytime. Maybe 3.5 v6 can match the turbo diesel but then it still loses in fuel consumption.
