It takes some time to be honest. I am quite sure you do know how streamyx works

If you want to speed things up , do write a letter to helpdesk and ask them to look into it ASAP (make sure you're doing it from your streamyx account). Attach another copy to MCMC as well and it should reduce your "waiting time"

Wow. Lets put it into a scenario.

Lets say of the 60000 4mb users, half of them are torrenting/downloading at an average of 400kbps.

It Means:

30000 users X 400kbps =  12000000kbps

which means 12000000kbps divide by 1000 = 12000Mbps

which also means that total of 12Gbps of bandwidth is used.

NO JOKE
*
Bias calculation. Its impossible to have 60000 4Mbps users at time. For instance today , I am just surfing the web , checking my e-mail , facebook and IRC. I am just using around 50-100 kilobits per second. so your calculation is somewhat biased and it doesn't take account into what 4Mbps users do. Yes some of them do torrent , others like me (at this time) - would be using it for productivity stuff (i.e researching, IMing , and IRCing)

Moderation Note

Title changed. This is more towards 4Mbps users (and those who would like to join the rest of us) as basically TM allocates "premium IP" to 4Mbps users

Can someone confirm that the 218.111.AAA.XYZ  and 218.111.BBB.XYZ

give different routing and speed?
Can we do some test and post it here ?

Beside than, most 218.111 IP do not have more than 10 nodes.
anyone notice that ?
and if u access to US site, The packet do not travel to SG or HK or JP anymore.
it's TM to US directly.

I am on 218.111.14.x , by the way

now my modem is detect showing 2mbps not 4mbps, should i call TM or wait?
I am getting IP 124.13.65.132 , this ip is in the range ???
*
Wait for 1 week. If its not updated , call them up and fire them. Ask them to send a technician. If they're saying its your fault. Send an e-mail to TM with a screenshot of your speedtest (Keep in mind you'll have to use TM speedometer).

Anyway it takes a month or at least few weeks for you to be on 218.111 IP !

Now my IP changed to 218.111.x.x

The speed is fast. Especially to China Sites. But....

115 IP have all the ports opened. 218.111.x.x blocked everything.
*
Its opened by the way

Anyway, it takes for a while for you to get "premium IP range". Connection to SG sucks with this IP , however to US it just rocks

218.111.x.y

Generally it starts with 218.111. ,where x can be a constant (Depending on your area , for some it would be from 0-6) , and y is just some random number

gsan , here is the traceroute - you can have a look at it and compare it with yours

Great now 4Mbps package is just like 1Mbps package. The IP range is already useless. It used to be pretty good when there were only few 4Mbps users and now suddenly a surge of users and bam it sucks

QUOTE(SeanWong @ Jul 29 2009, 03:32 PM)
err...a newcomer to upgrade to 4mbps broadband.

The technician came to my house just now and test the connection. My result on SNR is 23.2 db and attenuation is 18.7 db, so he said it is good to get 4Mbps. Then he upgrade it and told me it need 48 hours to truly activate and achieve the desired speed. He just use about 15 mins and said all done.

My question is...i thought he need to bring a new modem/router in order to cater for 4Mbps broadband? like that one call Rigel brand (some sort like that). But he just said my current TM Billion ADSL modem/router is more than enough and not neccessary to change it.

And then is that what he said is true? just 48 hours can achieve the desired speed? i expect there will be a lot of trouble since i browse through all the previous post here lot of ppl complain about efficiency of TM during upgrading process.

Hmm..or maybe i need to wait after 48 hours then only can judge whether they have deliver their promise or not?

P/S: sorry for noob question as i really dumb in this kind of technical stuff.. sweat.gif
*
It takes 24-48 hours for you to be upgraded to 4Mbps at least. Next it will take a week or two before you're allocated 218.x.x.x IP range.

Any ADSL modem would work - you dont have to buy a new modem.

So you better wait 24-48 hours. It took them ~48-50hrs for them to activate 4Mbps. The jumpering was done instantly , I was capped at 4Mbps , but my account upgrading thingy took like 48 hours. A week later I was given 218.111 IP range

I've been using 4Mbps for a long time. Recently , it has been going slow on me. I am guessing that they are silently starting to cap because this month I've downloaded over like 80GB worth of stuff

Okay , its confirmed. TMNet is silently testing out capping. So you maybe or may not get it. Do test your luck and try to stress your connection , if you do notice slowness after X GB of transfer , then we do know that its for real.
