Here is a piece of advice , use reverse phsycology. I did this as you do all know that my line was capped at 1Mbps/256Kbps for 2 weeks

I called up TM , and explained that 'I don't care about your international speed , give me my 4Mbps. Thats all I'm asking for. A lady made a report , got the number. I decided not to call for another week (as I wanted them to give some room)

Waited for one week and no call. So I rang up and I said to myself that its about time. So I spoke with a guy , I was being polite nor I did push them as I truly understand that they are fasting. There is no point of me to shout at them as they are doing their job. So , they put me thorugh their premium CS and they did manage to fix it

This is how I do , I give them room and call em - whilist some of you are just bugging them day and night. Its not going to work , you gotta be friendly and learn how to tackle to get things done for you. For instance instead of saying OMG , I pay 4Mbps and I get 1Mbps , just say that its not fair at all , and tell that you aren't bothered about International speed , so on and so forth. You gotta learn how to talk

As for no contract , there is no such thing , youll be renewing your 12 month contract , unless you opt'ed for Streamyx 4Mbps without Combo

The problem is if your line is weak and you insist on doing 4Mbps. Its not going to be pretty stable , slightest noise can disrupt and you'll face disconnections. Whats your SNR Margin anyway

You can't change , you're allocated with that range. Its meant for 4Mbps users

Regardless of where you're - you'll be in the premium range as long you're using 4mbps

Oh one more thing , it takes at least a month for them to port you to the premium range

This whole month was pleased

-Able to stream Hulu (sometimes okay , something bit problematic) , it was around 10GB. I've given up on downloading instead I am making use of Streaming technology to view content directly from US. I've a valid US address and such so that kinda makies it easier + VPNing to my US Server

Download to European servers are pathetic , at most I can get is 30-40Kilobytes/sec

Thats about it for this month. Just to let you know that connection to US is superb

Again 115.x.x.x ip doesn't count as 4Mbps . You need to wait till your IP is in 218.111 range or 218 range before you can rant.

Well just keep in mind dont over use it or be prepared to be capped by TM. Thats all I can say. I've got once , learned my lesson and I've managed to reduce bandwidth consumption by a mile tongue.gif (by using a proxy server to cache frequently visited sites , etc )

No issues with

Watching hulu streams in US , the buffer is fast , but sometimes it hiccups now and then whereby you have to wait

I've stop torrenting thanks to hulu. This makes it easy on TM and as to me , as I don't have to stress out my PC and their connection

Hi guys, regard to the streamyx 4mb connection mode. i only be able to connect at G.DMT mode , i had tried several setting mode example: ADSL2 , ADSL2+ etc..and it unable to establish the connection, is there a probs with my the modem firmware or streamyx port setting at there end ?? ?? btw, i'm using linksys wag200 wireless modem. thanks.

Linksys modem and TM DSLAMs are no go. Don't worry about it being G.DMT , cause its not going to improve your performance. It would be a different story if we have 10 Mbps ADSL ...

You need to wait for your IP to be ported to 218 range , took me 2 weeks. Just wait for a while. Depending on your luck. I did not ask at all and bam I was changed automatically. Just wait

I am going to apply for 4mbps. Is it stable? Do u really get 4mbps when downloading from RS? Is multi tasking lagging? Does it trottle alot of website?
*
It all depends on your DSL Sync. Again it depends how you manage your bandwidth. for me , at times it can be good and sometimes it can be pain in the butt

Hulu streaming would be great at High quality without any lag on a good day. However on a bad day, bam it will start to buffer every 2 second. It has its ups and downs. Local sites are always fast , downloading latest ubuntu is great with 4Mbps. Again it all depends. The main reason why I went with 4Mbps is not because of its speed , its because of its IP range and superb routing to Europe and to US. That was my main reason

It has its ups and downs. As for me , I am okay with it. I can tolerate with its down and lately youtube takes forever to load.

Thanks for the wonderful review. Just wanna know what download speed do u get normally? Some member said they cap it at 5mbps? or u get 4mbps?
*
There you go , this picture would tell you

Thats the average speed. Obviously sometimes it can go up to 560 , but its not stable. Its a bit up and down. Averages around 490-500Kilobytes/sec.

Attached Image

The cap depends on you. I was capped at 4Mbps at first , then I demanded to be raised to 5Mbps as my download speeds were pathetic , I couldn't even get 80% of the advertised speed for local links. I told TM, I am not asking much, just give me 80% of your advertised speed and I am set. So they increased it to 5Mbps so that it would offset the overheads and other things and I could get up to 4.3Mbps

It will take some time for you to get the true 4Mbps speed as at first you'll be on the same IP Range as last time. It will take 2-3 weeks (yes I know and I waited for it) for you to get the 218 ip range.

Haha...its not like that la...The screenshot that he show u is the download history...
If u look carefully, there's column that show start date and finished date... tongue.gif

Ignore the dates , what I would do is download one file till 50MB and then stop and then resume the next day. Its because I stream a lot of videos. When I am not in the mood to see any videos , I resume.

haha thanks i missed that. Imagine how beautiful life would be if 10files i download each files runs at max download speed

You'l be needing 25Mbps for that

Looking at the reply sent by tmnut support, it seems that they're blaming on the DNS .. but wondering what DNS has to do with speedtest?

Added on November 29, 2009, 9:10 pmAnyway .. I'll bug the installer tomorrow .. smile.gif I'm on 115 IP too .. modem is showing 4096/509 kbps .. but speed test cam sial..!

115 is not their proper IP

Here are some tips

You give them traceroute and throw networking terms. Don't write in plain english , use a bit of tech jargon. Like instead of asking 218.111 ip. Tell them the route to US , UK is pathetic with 115 ip. As a 4Mbps user, the reason why we are paying RM 160 a month is to enjoy what Internet has to offer. We are in with TM instead of choosing other competitors as we believe that TM provides an excellent service . Plus It would be heartbreaking for me to see my favourite ISP being bombarded by MCMC if I fail to get good speeds. I am just only asking for good service , I am not even demanding for a stable 4Mbps line nor asking 100% 4Mbps all the time. Just good connections to US and UK

Thats how I did it and bam I got it done.

The moment you play your cards well , TMw ill respond. If you talk in plain english and make demands , you get generic answers. You need to go beyond the text book. Twist a bit and they'll call

P.S - Don't follow my trick 100% , edit a bit here and there make it sound like its coming from you

aspire2006 , umm I must warn you this though. That only applies for 1Mbps/2Mbps. If you upgrade you'll be charged RM 88. TM folks will come to your house and do checks before they sync

The moment you register for 4mbps and if everything is okay , you'l lbe charged RM 88. That includes for folks who are going to upgrade as well. You cannot avoid that fee , I know its expensive and its stupid , but you can't avoid that

Thirdly there is no DIY streamyx 4mbps upgrade , TM folks must come and check if the line is 100% okay for 4Mbps
