Do university clubs/society really matters?, Personally I think it’s BS.

If you got good cgpa, then you dont any of these club activity to boost your resume. Otherwise if your cgpa is like shit then being a preaident in club might add some point for you..

I did nothing in terms of all these club/society in college (I go class, I go home whistling.gif ), and during my interview the people interviewing me didn't bother with it as well. They were only concerned with what skills I had as well as how relevant my internship was.

I think it gives signal that you have potential. Like being a president of a club. In workplace, if they want to promote two person and A has president experience while B has none, both are capable, so which one would you promote?

I think when it comes to position to promote, I would look for someone who bring the most money to the company biggrin.gif Since there's definitely working experience already when it comes ti promoting someone in a workplace.

Nowadays so many got straight a’s n high cgpa.. If u participate in a club / join some group competition it will show u are not just a book person, u can work in a team, can find solution not just in a book or google.. yada2..

And high scorer usually think they too good, prefer work alone, stubborn n don’t really ask senior etc..

It depend on the job actually.. some job, ok being robot worker.. some need more people skills..

Title no use, connections of people in the club very useful. Talking from experience, being the leader doesn't help much but add to responsibilities and more problems. Become shadow and catch leader eye enough, no need catch everyone else's

if you were to ask me, those experiences (club/society/whateveryou'redoing) are actually an icebreaker to your future employer during your first job interview. regardless of what the experience is, as long as you have something to talk about and that leaves an impression to your future employer, that's what important isn't it?

You are wrong. No matter how high your CGPA is if you don't meet the right people you won't get far. Uni is the right time to make networking. Joining club that can widen your circles and network is very beneficial in future. Trust me, Uni is not about education only, widen your network is actually can be more beneficial than your CGPA.

I don’t think you get the context here.

My topic is joining club VS doing small business outside of university.

Both are potential of widening your circles but may have different impact if what you doing in the club is nothing beneficial.

Trust me, you didn’t get the right context here smile.gif

What is the point of this thread when you already have made up your mind.

Possibly if you ask me. I never joined any clubs in uni and I'm perfectly fine. Not sure if it adds any value as your mileage may vary.

Between the both if you have a half decent business idea you're probably better off using your time for that.
