Mhmm... Those are predesigned UI templates from those STB software providers, so pay TV providers can just select which UI they want, then change a little according to what they want.

I don't think Astro purposely design every single thing from scratch also...
Even for Ultra Box one, certain UI elements of the design is a little similar to Android TV. And the font also... It uses Roboto font 😂

Well... From what I see is, Astro Prima, Oasis and AEC is being simulcast to both SD and HD. So since Astro has the choice to provide SD to Njoi viewers, so they offer only in SD for Njoi.

However, because Astro Vaanavil will become a HD-only channel from 1 June onwards, hence SD quality is not even an option, so Astro has no choice but to just offer Astro Vaanavil HD to everyone.

Why like that? In business perspective, you just got to show on how you treat customers between those who pays vs who don't.
Since Astro customers are paying monthly, so yea, HD is available to you, as a choice.

Meanwhile Njoi customers isn't committed to pay monthly, even with Njoi prepaid, that doesn't "guarantee their income" cuz you can subscribe and cancel it anytime you want.

You want Ria, Prima, Oasis in HD? Can. Upgrade to Astro 
If Ria, Prima, Oasis and others, are offered in HD on Njoi platform, regardless if it's free or prepaid channels, would that still convinces you to upgrade to Astro? 

So, what to expect from a free stuff anyway? It's just another day in pay TV business.

Hmmm... Basically means, Astro now able to decide to let you watch the channel in HD or SD, with the same channel number.

For example, if their system detects that you're using HD-enabled box, so when you tune to ch201, your Astro box will receive the HD version of Astro Vaanavil.

However if you're using the legacy Astro box, and you tune to ch201, you'll receive the SD version of Astro Vaanavil.

Technically how it work, you ask?
You see, when a same channel is simulcast in both SD and HD, it means on the satellite, it shows 2 separate TV channels being transmitted from different transponder frequency.
So in layman words, from Astro's side, they can send a "channel list bouquet" to your Astro box, to tell your Astro box that whenever the user (which is you) tune to ch201, the Astro box is "instructed" to go receive THIS channel at THIS particular transponder frequency at THESE technical parameters (e.g. SID, VPID, APID tracks and so on). From there, they can decide whether to let you receive the HD version or SD version already.

And hmm, from what I see, there is a possibility that Njoi viewers might be continue getting the SD version of Astro Vaanavil instead of getting the HD version... I mean, Astro can make it that way if they want to, since the "channel list bouquet" for Astro and Njoi are so different. But will that happen or not, we shall see it in action on 1 June onwards for Njoi users.

It's official now, 30 minutes later. Even the word Vaanavil itself is now romanized, instead of keep the Tamil typewriting.

Quite surprising to see that the channel logo is now romanised to VAANAVIL instead of retaining the Tamil script.
I do wonder if it's just temporary or permanent...

Rajini70 channel is on transponder frequency 10932MHz (Measat 3b satellite), and that transponder is under DVB-S2, where legacy Astro box only supports the older DVB-S standard and does not recognise the newer DVB-S2 standard.
So definitely this SCNA message will appear. I think the person-in-charge mistakenly included that channel on legacy boxes, or somehow forgot to remove it.

Since you're still using legacy Astro box, so I think you're able to watch Astro Vaanavil, right? If can, take picture see

Also, since you're using legacy Astro box, could you check if these channels are part of your channel list, and able to watch or not:

112 - Astro Rania
113 - Astro Aura
235 - Zee Tamil
310 - TVB Jade

Also, could you confirm that these are the only few Astro First & Astro Best channels available on legacy Astro boxes:
470-473 Astro First
488-492 Astro Best

If yes, try go to CH480 / 481 and browse for movies to rent, the movie selection shown isn't as much as what appears on the HD-enabled boxes, right?

If it's Njoi account, then I wonder if the channel list is different compared to Astro's account? Or exactly the same?

Not available, as in that channel not even appear on the channel list, and if you press 112 or 113, it jumps to other nearest channel number?

Could you check if news channels like from ch516 till ch533, does those channel even appear on the channel list?
