Astro is now offering the Max app add-on at a lower price with a 12-month contract.

Just add-on or remove the app as you want. No hidden charges or Astro contract renewal whatsoever.

But 12 months contract
*

Astro offers Max app with 12-month contract option (50% off from Monthly plans)
I manage to gather the info regarding Astro's promo of Max app with 12 month contract.

Plan name Recommended Retail Price (RRP) Astro's price (Monthly) Astro's price (12 months contract that auto renews)
Max Standard RM34.90 RM33.90 RM16.96
Max Ultimate RM52.90 RM51.90 RM25.95

I'm surprised to see that the overall business rules for this offer is somewhat a little different than the others. Here's what I gathered:
  • Customer's subscription that contains Movies (pack or addon), such as Movies Pack, or Astro One: Epic Pack customers, are not eligible for this Max 12 month contract option.
  • Existing customers with Max app monthly addon, can choose to upgrade to the 12 month plan easily via My Astro, even if changing to different tiers (e.g. change from Max Ultimate monthly plan to Max Standard 12 months, it is possible also).
  • The 12-month contract will automatically renew every year. Meaning, you’ll remain in a continuous contract for life (only for the Max app addon itself) unless you either downgrade to a non-contract plan or cancel the Max app add-on at least one month before the contract's renewal date.
  • Upon early cancellation of Max 12 month plan or downgrading to a non-contract Max plan, you will be imposed with a fixed penalty amount equivalent to a 2 months worth of Max subscription fee at Astro's selling price, which is RM62.78 for Max Standard plan or RM96.12 for Max Ultimate plan. It does not count based on remaining months, nor based on proration.
  • You can change between Max Standard 12 months and Max Ultimate 12 months at anytime, but the 12 month contract date will restart.
  • Upon subscribing to the 12 month contract plan, you will enjoy the same price forever.
  • You can grab this offer from 22 May 2025 until 30 June 2025. But who knows, they might extend it...
  • Switching fee of RM10 will not be charged if you make changes to your Max addon plan that result in a lower monthly fee (with or without contract), only if you do it through My Astro.
Meaning, if you contact customer service asking them to help you make the changes, RM10 switching fee can be charged.

Conclusion
If you don't mind the contract and just want to pay lower price, then Astro's offering of this Max 12 months plan is a great choice.
In fact, this is now the cheapest way to enjoy Max Standard or Ultimate plan in Malaysia, and even cheaper compared to subscribing Max addon through Unifi.

Plan name Astro's price (Monthly, NO contract) Astro's price (12 months contract with auto renewal) Unifi's selling price (Monthly, NO contract)
Max Standard RM33.90 RM16.96 RM24.90
Max Ultimate RM51.90 RM25.95 RM34.90

But even if you're concerned about the contract, the penalty amount for early cancellation is fixed, by paying a one-shot 2 months worth of Max subscription price as mentioned earlier. Not too bad, I guess? sweat.gif
QUOTE(Feliex @ May 22 2025, 02:14 PM)
If my contract end of this Nov/2025 ... what will happen if I subscribe?
*

Subscribing to Max 12 months contract, will not disturb any of your existing contract.
So even if you subscribe to Max 12 months, your pack contract will still end on Nov 2025.
Max 12 months will have its own contract period date.

Comparison of apps addon prices: Astro vs Unifi (May 2025)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Instead of subscribing to your favourite streaming apps individually (e.g., using your own payment methods like debit/credit card or e-wallet), you can consider subscribing through Astro or Unifi—especially if you already have either Astro or Unifi installed at home. The key advantage is the potential to enjoy lower subscription fees for some streaming apps, along with the convenience of a single, consolidated bill.

Some Astro or Unifi TV packages even include some—or all—of your favourite apps. Although it often provides the best value, it typically comes with a 24-month contract, which may not appeal to everyone.

As an alternative, you can subscribe to streaming apps as standalone add-ons via your preferred provider (Astro or Unifi). In this case, the subscription fee is simply added to your Astro or Unifi monthly bill—giving you the flexibility to remove them anytime (unless if there's specific app contract).

Both Astro and Unifi offer a variety of streaming apps. To get the best deal, it’s worth comparing which provider offers the lowest price for the apps you want.
Here's a comparison of the app’s add-on prices between Astro and Unifi:

As he mentioned here:
So, it's RM 16.96 for Max Standard and RM 25.95 for Max Ultimate, per month for 12 months for life. These prices are inclusive of 8% SST.

Indeed, it's the cheapest Max app subscription in Malaysia, and it's only on the My Astro app.
*

Well, it's not really "only on the My Astro app".
You can still subscribe through other platforms like CH200 or contact customer service directly.

Let's discuss further here.
So what you're experiencing is, the moment you launch My Astro app on your Ulti/Ultra Box, this error appears right away? Or what did you do that triggers this error?
Have you tried to unplug the power of your Ulti/Ultra Box, then plug it back, and see if you are able to launch My Astro app there without getting this error?

Just launch My Astro app on your Ultra Box. There's 2 methods you can do that:
1) Press home, then you'll see a small My Astro logo on top right corner (just next to the Settings gear icon).
2) Press home, scroll down to Apps rail, keep pressing Right arrow until you see "My Astro".

Did you ask exactly why the price will increase back to RM70++ after 24 months contract ends? If not, clarify with the Astro agent why they advised that first.
Your friend's Astro subscription, currently what are the things that he subscribed to? What pack did he subscribed to? Is there any broadband? How about Multiroom?

Get more details from your friend first.

*

Yes. Astro receives Sun Life channel from Sun Network has always been in SD quality.
And yes, they just transmit the channel in HD to us (customers) even though the channel origin is in SD. As a result, you will only see HD picture quality during commercial breaks (because ads are slotted in by Astro themselves).

If you have 4G/5G mobile data plan, try turn on your phone's WiFi hotspot.
And then on your Ultra/Ulti Box, connect the WiFi hotspot network from your phone.
Once done, launch My Astro app there and see if you still see that error.

If you still see it, unplug the power of your Ultra/Ulti Box, then plug it back, once it boots up, launch My Astro app again and see if the error still there.

Anyone facing Astro Ultra won't connect to a WPA3 only network? I thought Ultra box is Wifi 6 ready? Im using TPLink Archer A53 and have my network set up as WPA3 only. No matter Smart Connect is enabled or not the box simply wont connect. Previously was using a Lan cable but it seems to have damaged.
*

As what I know, Ultra Box didn't specifically mention any support of WPA3, and I don't set my home WiFi network as "WPA3 only", so I'm not able to comment on that.
Any major concerns if you'd configure your route's WiFi network as mixed WPA2/WPA3 mode?

Previously was using a Lan cable but it seems to have damaged.
Perhaps, have you try look around your house for LAN cable, especially those LAN cable included from the box packaging of your older/previous WiFi-related devices and routers.
Otherwise, why not buy new one? It's not expensive anyway.

The installation paper that came with the Ultra box mentions support for AX .. which is a Wifi 6 standard. Also my prev LAN cable is actually 12 meters in length thats why I thought of using WiFi for a moment. Cat 7 patch cable is bit pricey (yes ik Cat 6a is sufficient but I just like to future proof my networks). Just odd why Astro mentions AX support in the paper but the box doesn't do so.
user posted image

Mixed mode seem to not work too tho.
*

For me, my WiFi router supports WiFi 6, and the network is on mixed WPA2/WPA3 encryption (there's no option for WPA3 only in the settings), and my Ultra Box still able to connect the WiFi network without issues, so I think the issue you're facing is probably something else?

Have you made sure that your WiFi frequency channel is not heavily interfered/clashed by your neighbour's WiFi network's frequency channel?
What other settings did you change on your router? MAC address filter? DHCP settings? You tried reboot both the WiFi router and your Ultra Box as well, right?

You mentioned that you're using TP-Link Archer A53 router, and you face this issue... I assume you changed new router, is it?
Then how about your previous WiFi router? All along working fine?
Are you not able to connect both 2.4GHz and 5GHz from your WiFi router, or which either one?

Previously how did you get your Ultra Box connected to the Internet? Since the user manual of your Ultra Box stated that the Ethernet port is only 10/100Mbps, then why not just use back your existing LAN cable? I don't think there's a need to buy a CAT7 cable for that.

If you've exhausted all steps and issue persists, you can try perform clear NVRAM on your Ultra Box as a last resort.
So many ways to troubleshoot, you figure out one by one la. sweat.gif

where to watch cycling (especially with Tour de France next month)
No idea.
One of the main reason why Astro closes Eurosport is also due to low viewership.

Warner Bros Discovery streaming platform already available here?
Yes, Max (soon to be rebranded to HBO Max) is available in Malaysia (previously known as HBO GO).
However, unlike in those western countries, we don't get live sports content from streaming Max in Asian countries including Malaysia.
We just have to wait and see then.

Otherwise, live cycling events like Tour de France is basically no longer available to watch in Malaysia legally.
