Protonvpn, from the well known Swiss email provider protonvpn. Most free vpns are riddled with ads and security loopholes. This one is free, unlimited bandwidth and highly secure and private. icon_idea.gif

Also using vpns in china is illegal and can be prosecuted if you are not lucky brows.gif

Last time I went Beijing for vacation, received whatsapp from manager asking about work.
Wtf bbq mang.

Two months ago my bro went to China.
Whatsapp sometimes work, sometimes don't.
Ended up I installed wechat to communicate with him. sweat.gif

I travel to China twice recently, and in both times I roamed using China Unicom/China Mobile via Celcom & Maxis (I have 2 lines). I can use my FB app and Whatsapp with no issues.

I think the issue here is if you use local China simcards? You won’t face any issues if you roam using your own number from Malaysia.

Just came back from vacation in China.

Tried and tested two VPNs that confirm can work there.

Vypr VPN and TunnelBear VPN. Express VPN also can use (and the best VPN in China actually) , but unfortunately I can't use cos I already registered for account before this trip and they detected my device and the free trial is over.

Vypr VPN would be more consistent than TunnelBear.

However, do note that both VPNs have free data limit (1gb and 500mb respectively).

If you use it for basic daily WhatsApp / Facebook / Gmail / Google, should be enough for your vacation / trip.

Do note that I bought a China Unicom sim card to use there.

For roaming with local Maxis / Digi / etc carriers not sure whether can bypass the firewall there. Seems like can from previous replies.

Edit: Opera VPN and Turbo VPN doesn't work at all.
