Anyone have any idea on whether i could run SLI on a Xfire mobo?Specifically the CFX3200?

And at what framerate do you guys consider as playable in term of gaming?
*
I thought you can't run Nvidia cards in SLI mode on Xfire mobo???

Thanks for the info, but how would the performance fare overall?

Naturally, the performance would be worst compared to a graphic card that has a dedicated RAMs i.e. the RAMS are on the GC itself....

Oic..Didnt know that though.Anyway, i will go back and test it again with FRAPS and post the result here. But one thing for sure, i dont see any lagging when on Level 4 AA and no AA at all..

If Level 8 AA is said to be 16X AA, does this mean Level 4 is on 8X already? Then i guess turn it on to Level 2 is more than enough right?
*
I'm playing C&C with all max setting at 1280 x 1024. Antialiasing also at max.

Getting about 25-30 fps most of the time in the earlier levels (on fraps) with max units.

Can't really try with later campaigns (when there's a lot of structures/unit) as I just deleted my saved games!!! Will try later on as I advance in the NOD campaigns....

Wonder whether your proc is bottlenecking the 8800 GTS..... hmm.gif or your settings are incorrect?

O...Is my proc bottlenecking it?Maybe i could go home and OC it to around 2.5Ghz and see whether the result is still the same. Could not OC it higher cause i dont know how..LOL..

Anyway, i tested everything on stock at that point and get around 23k on 3D Mark03. Most of the review i have seen said the mark should be around 26 - 27k i pressume. So, mine is abit low..
*
Ya, that's what I thought. Either your settings are wrong or your CPU is bottlenecking.... I'm only getting just slightly above 15000 in 3Dmark03...

So I should think your rig should be much smoother when playing C&C. nod.gif

@dattebayo - ya I know, just wondering why akachester is still getting lag as his system is more than enough for current gaming.....

15k on 3Dmark03? shocking.gif are you sure?
*
Errr.... 15k too low aaa?

At almost max OC, my scores are:
3Dmark01 - 22034
3Dmark03 - 9666
3Dmark05 - 7149
3Dmark06 - 3610

Still adequate for current gaming but no DX10 sad.gif

Edit : Re-run the benchmarks to confirm scores for 3Dmark03. Hehe, wrong info. I wrote it wrongly on a piece of paper lying around the room!! Updated scores as above.

Question on 8800 GTX - what would be the minimum PSU wattage requirement?

I know Nvidia recommends at least a 450 watt PSU with a minimum of 30A on the +12v rail.

I'm using an enermax liberty 500w PSU (32A on dual +12v rail, each with 22A). Supposed to be true power or whatever the term is.......

If add in a quad core (i.e. q6600 sweat.gif ), do you think it would be adequate??

This is what I got using the following configuration:
-Single processor - C2Q6600 (2.4Ghz, 1.25v) - OC at 3.0 Ghz (1.45v)
-High-end desktop
-100% TDP
-2 sticks DDR2
-Nvidia 8800 GTX (626/2000) - single
-2 HDD 720 rpm
-1x DVD+RW + 1 DVD-ROM
-Sound card x1
-2x 80 mm fan, 3x 120mm fan
-system load - 100% peak load
--?? capacitor aging

Amount of watts = 492w sweat.gif

Thanx for the reference. With almost similar setup as above, the calculator only showed a PSU wattage of 330w!!! rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

actually, many ppl has comment on that extremeouter vision as exaggerating sweat.gif

but u should get something like SS ST56F, total 12V current are 40A, u ll never need to worry to OC like hell flex.gif
*
Thx for the advise. I actually bought mine about a year ago for future upgrade. I actually thought 500w at that time was more that enough. Now, looks like it is not enough!!! doh.gif

Hmmm.... maybe I'll just use stock settings first and upgrade the PSU next time.....

is amout watt is 492 including OC probably your PSU still can last you for 1 year+ before the capacitor become old and leak..that time your psu wattage will drop depending on power leakage...that is why the web recommended you 560-600 watt psu.. for now i temporary use the 460watt enermax....i plan to upgrade to fotron 600w or 700watt cos is cheaper compare to other and is true power with more than 80% efficiency..
*
Ya, that wattage is including OC. I think if I do go for this setup, I have to limit my OC too until I upgrade the PSU.

Bought the 500w for future-proofing but looks like it is still not enough! doh.gif

500W is enough for your setup. IMHO, power requirement for 8800 series are overated, so as quadcore. if not mistaken, power consumption of quadcore almost on par with old pentium 4 EE presshot
*
I really hope so. I don't want to sell off my nice enermax yet!!! biggrin.gif

My old 6600GT explode because of chipalang PSU... doh.gif

But my current Enermax Noisetaker is only 485 watt... lower than yours kmarc. If you already have a lot of headache thinking about stability... I wonder how would mine be... with 8800 series... rclxub.gif
*
Ya lo. Real headache. I think next time if I do get another PSU, I'd probably just buy one that is enough for that particular rig. No point getting more watts when in the end, it is still not enough!

Are you planning to go 8800 and C2D/C2Q?

Yup.. an E6600 and 8800GTS/GTX (dunno which one to take.. depend on my budget by the end of this month).

Well.. for now I already booked one unit of Silverstone OP650 from kingmaker_20... hopefully that will be enough for a long time to come... the thing is.. it will only arrive by the end of this month or early July.. and if it arrives in early of July and I already have my gc by that time... then I only have that 485watt Enermax Noisetaker to use doh.gif .
*
Noticed that almost everybody is recommended the silverstone..... Hmm.... will check it out later.....

E6600 huh.... not waiting for Intel's next price drop aaa?

I'd probably get the 8800 GTX once I've decided on buying the proc....

I'd really love to wait for the price cut.. but I simply can't. 1 July go back to college... and I got only around 12 days to fully assemble my PC or else I will be PC-less back to my college. Can't use the current PC I'm using now too as I have already sold it to my friend in college and he already pay half of it.

So basically I'm left without any PSU now... doh.gif  doh.gif  doh.gif
*
But you will still have the 485w PSU right? May be enough for your new rig if you don't do any overclocking.

Found ont that the 8800 GTX required 165watts which is actually quite acceptable.

Or maybe cut down on your peripheral components e.g. fans, hard disk, DVD roms, etc..... hmm.gif

Was searching around and found this forum : http://forum.overclock3d.net/showthread.php?t=9880

Dunno how true it is but for QX6700 + 8800 GTX, max wattage was around 470w!

I think I'm too afraid to try powering up 88gts/gtx with 485watt enermax is probably because too many people have exaggerated to me about how unstable 88gts/gtx is with psu under 500watt. doh.gif
Gee.. sometimes I got scared of it... what if it really happens?? But then due to the situation I'm in right now... I don't have any other choice but to try it with my enermax.. afterall all of you said it is definitely safe. Well... I think I believe you guys more than those people... laugh.gif so i will try it if OP650 don't make it to me before 1 July.
*
If you do use your 485w enermax with the 8800 (especially the 8800 GTX), please give some feedback ok? Really want to know whether the PSU can support them or not!

Here's another recommendation from Guru3D. http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/391/9/

Apparently, with the x6800 (TDP 75 watts), you need a 450w PSU for the 8800GTX and 400w PSU for the 8800GTS.

If we're talking about the q6600 (TDP 105 watts), I guess we just add 30 watts to the equation?

This of course rules out OC as at stock, the PSU would probably be near its limit.... sad.gif
