wow 5 ar? i oni got 2 12m fans.. now thinking to get xfx8800gts, shud i add more fans?

5 also not enough la. Had to switch the fans around to get the best air flow config. Shifted one fan to blow on the GC, now load temp for my 8800GTS is around 70-75'c (fan speed 80% oni..... laugh.gif)

Hi all nVidia8 experts,

I'm using Asus 8600GT 256mb (official 162.18 driver), do you've experience that when you play games like C&C3 or Supreme Commander, it will freeze randomly between 30 minutes to 1 hr ? I've go through the nVidia forum, but seems many people also face the same situation for 8600GT. Last week I've replaced my Acbel 350W PSU to Enermax Liberty 500W, but no much help. It still freeze randomly within 1 hr when playing C&C3. My PC spec is AMD X2 5600+; Asus M2N-E SLI; Patriot DDR-800 1GB RAM (with heatsink); Asus 8600GT 256mb; Enermax Liberty 500W.

Hope you guys can provide me some info or solution.

Regards: Tonny

You mean it won't freeze before 30 minutes? Sounds like heat buildup to me. Did you monitor the GC's temperature?

of coz u get that temp...

just look at your clock speed, its 'underpowered'

ASUS 8800 GTS 640mb - Core/Mem : Idle (300/400 mhz), Gaming (512/792mhz - stock) (fan 80%, temp 70-75'c)
most ppl running at 575/800....
*
Don't see the need to OC the card yet. Maybe next time when the frame rates get too low for good gaming.... smile.gif

Anyway, here's a more 'powered' OC - 594/864, artifact scanning in non-air conditioned room - load temp 76'c

Just a short test, not planning to OC yet.... smile.gif

Edit: Oh ya, fan at 80%..... laugh.gif

Edit x2 : Picture deleted, see below for higher OC nod.gif

Some more results on the 8800 GTS 640mb.... smile.gif

Core/mem : 621/972mhz @ 80% fan speed (ambient around 28'c) - load temp on ATItool artifact scanning (1 hour) - 78-79'c

Your GTS is indeed hotter than my previous 8800GTS 640MB. sweat.gif

What was your load temp, ambient temp & fan speed? hmm.gif

Why not put a fan on top of the HDD to blow on the top GC? Looks like there some space on top of the HDD.....

I see. I wondered why so I tested it again. Looks like it has to do a lot with ambient temp too.

Now ambient around 26'c (indicated on aircon), I ran the atitool again, a short test, this time with 100% fan speed......

Stock temp 513/792 : 68'c
OC temp 600/950 : 71'c

However, the temps doesn't change much between 80% fan speed and 100% fan speed! rclxub.gif

reached 621/972mhz yesterday on my 8800GTS. how's that? unsure.gif
*
I tested ATItool on that setting and it passed (1 hour). Briefly tested the core at 648 and no artifacts.... lazy to test further.

QUOTE(arc_archive @ Sep 2 2007, 12:31 PM)
had anyone break the 1000mhz barrier wif the mem clock??

ive tried last nite..but when the setting applied...the window color crashing...
*
My max mem is 972. When I put it at 999mhz, there are artifacts on ATItool..... sad.gif

Yours is SLI right? Would that be a problem as you need to OC both cards?

How high could you go with the core speed?

nope....stock cooler and even on stock TIM.

fan speeds @60% and closed case....i just put the clock slider in RT to 1000 and it worked!

ran 3dmark05 and perfectly stable.... heh.... after that put back to stock.

did it 2-3 times before i think....
*
Errr... I usually don't consider an overclocked GC stable unless it passes the ATItool aritifacts scanning. Once it passes this test, I will then test it out with other apps e.g. 3Dmarks and the some games.....

Remember that small artifacts (e.g. pixel artifacts) won't be picked up by the naked eye..... nod.gif

have you ever noticed, if you use nvidia's monitor and ATiTool, you can't actually set the bus speed's to what you want, precisely? when i set the mem clock to 985mhz and set "set clock", nothing happened. only when i raised it to 995mhz, it jumped to 999mhz. doh.gif

*
That's not a bug. Due to some internal clock setting (can't remember the exact reason), the clocks can only be set at a set incremental values only.... I think every 17mhz..... hmm.gif

laugh.gif Just sumthin interesting for all u fellow 8 series owners to try out. Try to run all those progs that I ran while doing 3DM06. Let's see what every1 else can get.  Try n use ur normal daily use settings ya, dont go n cheat by doing extreme OC on the rig just for suicide run. I just gave it a go on my daily use setting and got these results. laugh.gif

Come come, It's a boring weekend so let's all try this out n c what the results are.  tongue.gif
Boring weekend but machine doing folding la..... smile.gif

Anyway, what priority do you set for the prime95, default priority 1? Wonder whether it will be the same as running orthos..... hmm.gif

dun have ati tool to test out artifacts etc etc... so i just use 3dmark05 hence the reason i mentioned "3dmark05 stable" and not just "stable". besides..i only OC when im doing benchmarks... other than that, the GCs remains @ stock as even @ stock they can take alot of the current games.
IC. Le, your SLI could probably take any games thrown at it..... wink.gif

I set Prime95 to:-    Torture Test-Custom-Leave all settings default except set Memory to use(in MB) to max out the ram usage. In my case was 600MB.  Do that for both cores.  Actually any prog that runs both cores at 100% oso can lar I suppose. It'll be interesting to c how many ppl's rigs can tahan abuse like that.  laugh.gif  That's what I'm interested in.
*
Anyway, had nothing to do, so here's mine... smile.gif

Weird. Not much change from my actual score. Reduced by about 200 only.... (Previous 3Dmark06 score was 9295 at same GC settings....)

hey ppl.i was thinking of an 8800GTS upgrade but not sure which one 2 take.should i get the 320MB or 640MB for 1680x1050 reso gaming?
*
The 640mb would be useful if you want to run the highest texture in a game. So far, I know of only a few games that take advantage of 512mb or more i.e. Quake 4, COD 2 and Doom 3.

If you don't mind not setting the texture to it's highest setting, then the 320mb would be enough.

I'm sure that future games would take advantage of GC with more rams too.....
