So, for the 8800 GTX, what would be the recommended brand? Planning to get one!!!  rclxm9.gif
*
any brand will do, coz unless is pre-OC'ed, all other 88 GTX/GTS is the same as nVidia specs.

QUOTE(mADmAN @ Jun 20 2007, 01:27 AM)
whats wrong if the brand is made in china?? if those brands from china like colorful and xpertvision i wouldnt hesitate to recommend them in a heartbeat.

honestly...if i had the moolah right now id probably pick up arc_archive's 8800GTS to SLI with my current 8800GTS (same one..BFG OC2)
*
nth wrong... just thought they are made in US/UK initially

Well, for me, i just focused on getting a good fan for my rear exhaust to help push out all the hot air. Hopefully when i get a side panel fan to suck cold air for the GC, it is able to lower the temperature even more...

EDITED:

Installed COH yesterday, tried to push everything to MAX. No AA. Resolution 1650 * 1050 (Widescreen).

Using the game performance tester, only got an Average with min. FPS around 10fps and max is around 60fps. Average at 26fps..Is this even normal? I am starting to feel my processor is dragging the performance of my GC down..
*
it seems fluctuating a lot -->10FPS? shocking.gif

well its not necessary to set everything to maximum

what is the maximum sustainable temperature for 8800GTS/GTX? Its like having 70C at full load is pretty normal... but will it kill the GPU die? sweat.gif

Eh? I thought you're going for the 8000 series? What Red League?
*
bcoz suddenly thinking of my maxtor is dying soon... so i need extra money for a new HDD, then have to cut the budget to get x1950 lo

x1950gt can beat 8600gts in many games, and it absolutely smash the 8600gt to paste.

True. Why not a x1950pro?

X1950 cannot play DX10 games wor.....
*
the pro version, only palit fits in my budget, but now the stock is hard to find...
other brands would need rm700 for 1950pro with just 256mb of memory, so I think I can OC the GT up to Pro speed, and save rm200 for that...

dx10 game... hmm, i just wait 1 yr later and see how G80/G90 or ATi will be doing, another reason that hold me back from 8800 is how will the 1st gen dx10 card perform in real dx10 game, is still uncertain, so to spend rm1k on that is pretty risky for me laugh.gif

isnt in COH, there's only the setting as either turn on AA or turn off it, it doesn't mention which level of AA

using 3dmark06 is hard to compare now cos it take into account of cpu spec....probably 3dmark07 they will remove it then it will easy for us to compare the card with different spec of pc..
*
not to mention, it shows significant favor towards nvidia 8 series in benchmarks, where x1950 score lower than 8600gt, whereby in real gaming, there's big difference between these 2 cards. My 1950gt scored 4600, and last time 8600gt scored 4800.

if quadcore is taken into account, this has further proved that 3dmark is actually a RichmanMarks whistling.gif

If im not mistaken, the cards are manufactured by the same factory. Just they're distributed to different manufacturer. So it doesnt matter if the brand is not a big name. The cards are all the same smile.gif
*
colorful is colorful
palit is xpertvision, both are almost the same, except different style of packaging and the mascots used biggrin.gif Palit is cheaper than XpertVision, but sometimes a little more expensive than colorful

Is getting a 8600 GT worth it? I was saving for an 8800 GTS...but then...financial issues. I really hope there is something for me. I really can't afford RM1000+ for just a graphics card. I know because I have a 7800 GTX (it affected my life financially quite terribly)
*
if u have a 7800gtx, i suggest u not to upgrade to 8600gt. The improvement is quite insignificant, and 7800gtx can handle better in some dx9 games.

wait for 8800gts price to drop, or next gen dx10 cards come out.

Well, i know that it is not harmful even at 80c for the card but damn, its making my room damn hot and if one day i decided to let go of the card, the main reason would be the heat...
*
I think its more on psychology effect of thinking the GC make ur room hotter.
I used to put water boiler kettle in my room, its stay at near 100C all the time, but I dont feel a thing.

i saw a comparison of 8600gts and 7900gtx ? u guy guess which one is better .. ?
pc spec is 6420 oc to 3.0ghz ,they test on the 3dmark,the result of  8600gts only lower hundred compare with 7900gtx ... i wonder why ?

Added on July 21, 2007, 12:13 pm8600gts 256mb 128bit
7900gtx 512mb 256bit

all 8 series card will yield better 3dmark results due to their better shader operation. eg. 8600GT 3dmark score is comparable or even higher than 7900GS. But in actual gaming world, that still lots of other factors like memory bus width and textures, pixels, vertex shader unit etc. 8600GTS has only 32 Stream proc. and its pretty petty for a rm700 card.

so in short, do not trust 3dmark too much, they are just used to boost owners' ego whistling.gif

when looking for a GC's performance, a more accurate approach is to look for measured FPS statistics on some games. Anandtech and tomhardware do provide lots of them.

LOL..I dont know about that. Many coming games like Crysis etc are on DX10 but i wonder are they going to be FULL DX10 or somewhat compatible with DX9 card but lesser features. If they are compatible with DX9 cards, then i suppose they are able to run on Windows XP right? And is there even any news regarding DX10 for XP?
*
they will never be DX10 for XP. Due to GC driver's completely different architecture in Vista. But as many said, even Vista has been launched for more than 6 months, both ATI and Nvidia are still not able to produce a bug-free driver for Vista platform, for both dx9 or dx10 cards. So far, playing dx9 games on Vista is still sucker than playing in XP.

its really recommended those who don;t own dx10 card yet to stay in XP for a little while.

thought u guys might like to see this... i got very itchy and decided to install the Colorful 8600GT Ultra Edition and run 3D Mark 05...card is on stock (clock window is unchecked!)

rig specs as in my sig...just replace the 8800GTS with the 8600GT. EVERYTHING is on stock.

user posted image

notice the 3D Mark 05 main window...the card is detected as an 8600GTS.

also look at the background in the red box. the GT only loses out by around a hundred points to the stock MSI 8600GTS OC thumbup.gif

im impressed biggrin.gif

full size pic (1680*1050) is in the spoiler biggrin.gif

ello shawty, instead of focusing on 3dmarks, can post some game's benchmark such as the built-in graphic test in COH? brows.gif

3dmark isn't the absolute measure to determine level of enjoyment in games
