You just need to separately download plugins for other codecs to work.
And I do think almost all codecs will now work (without additional plugins) since almost all OEMs include them natively.
I just use MX Player since I can choose which folder it will read on my phone.

Does it hang when you're using any specific apps? Or just randomly hang?

Well, i have the same amount of apps in S9+ . I have no mean to exasperate and compare, but these random hang didn't occur in my S9+. Yet the battery and at the camera made it as my daily driver. Sometimes 2nd sim seems to "off" randomly and restart should fix. this only happened after the latest update. Probably bug maybe.

yeah, try going into recovery mode, clear your cache and see how it goes?
yours is p20 pro or p20? but either model, it shouldnt hang as you have at least 4gb ram which is quite large for normal use already right?

Same. Sometime will hang and auto restart for no reason.

Maybe some app crashes the os

Whoah auto restart for no reason is kindda serius. Make sure all your apps is Google Protect

I don't have a problem with the bloatware but why is my apps are auto default opening the
"App Gallery" for updates? Instead of Google Play? Any fix for this? All I've seen is something need to be done with ADB to clear bloatware, but I'm not really a power user.

I wish there's a setting I can fix, to make it open Google Play instead of App Gallery everytime my games need an update.

just disable it. that's what I do with bloat wares
