Any solution for the Instagram full screen?
*
The issue you are referring to is actually the FIX.
Previously, IG stories are in full screen and guess what, it uses the notch area as the progress bar of stories.

I'm so happy that this has been fixed and now I don't need to guess how many stories a person has OR how long before 1 story will finish.

I just found out that you can change Text Font while holding the Theme button. A pop-up window will appear. Anyone knows how to get more fonts?
*
Yeap. I'm using Roboto Regular font now. It did change the font in the camera app! The default one looks cartoonish and not professional.

Where did you download the fonts?
*
Download any font in .ttf format.
Put it inside Huawei/Themes folder and you are good to go.

Reinforced my thoughts, the P20 Pro isn't as good as the Pixel 2 (except in low light) because the processing is way too aggressive like the Samsung phones.

Pixel 2 is still the benchmark for mobile phone photography. Period.
*
Google Pixel 2/ HTC U11 / Galaxy S9 are using image stacking to capture still pictures.

Huawei P20/P20 Pro is still using the old fashioned, de-noise + oversharpen + saturate to process their photos.
Not to mention AI just filters the colors for you.

But I think everyone is aware that Pixel 2 is still the king of mobile photography (followed by HTC with their U11/U11+ devices).

The quality may not be the same as the P20 since the Mate 10 series use Sony Exmor IMX286 which not as powerful as the Sony Exmor IMX380 on the P20 series.

Mi 8 Explorer's back is a blatant copy of HTC U12+ Translucent option.
The difference is the mi8 is transparent but is showing FAKE physical internal parts instead of the actual motherboard. LOL

The aggressive oversharpening, followed up by a tad too much denoise, produces an almost painted effect in some scenes. It isn’t often a problem (sometimes the camera omits the filter entirely), but it repeatedly ruins pictures with lots of specular highlights and more detailed textures, such as bright leafy outdoor shots or water reflections.

Exactly my thoughts. Huawei is overdoing it. The camera hardware itself is great but it loses all the details due to post-processing.

Nice pic but typical Huawei with oversharpened, too much contrast and saturated post processing. It doesn't look natural even when Master AI is turned off.
I wish there are toggles to decrease sharpness and contrast.

+1 Unrealistic colors. sighhh pls fix this Huawei.
I like that my P20 camera is really FAST. But this poor post processing algorithms ruin the picture.

I love your pics! But Huawei is overdoing the processing especially the first one.
Too much contrast and sharpness. Nobody likes DULL colors but this is too much..
I prefer a realistic, natural look than a sharp, contrasty, saturated image.
The cow looks cute btw thumbup.gif

Reason: It is easier to edit a natural image to your liking than to tone down an image at it will lose more of the detail. rclxms.gif

As expected, in less than a week, Android's ugly flaw has started showing on my P20 Pro.

Two nights ago, I charged the phone to 100%, plugged it out at about 11pm and the next morning at 7am, it was at 95%. Last night, I charged to 100%, plugged it out at 10.30pm, and this morning at 6am, it was at 85%. WiFi and 4G was enabled, but I also engaged DND mode. My company email (Exchange Services) was the culprit last night, according to the battery stats.

To put this in context, the first two nights I used the phone with the same charging pattern, the overnight drain was just 2% laugh.gif
*
In the meantime, you can disable background data usage for specific apps. I just find it weird this issue isn't happening on other Android OEMs (no issue on my P20 and Moto X4) as doze mode is enabled by default (not sure what Huawei did to the OS) but it works well on my old HTC One A9 with only 2100mah battery.

I get ur points, we all know iphone battery efficiency is the highest, duh? (its been like that since iPhone 4)

Next Android phone efficiency would be oneplus, especially with snapdragon 845 and samsung great panel

But it is what it is dont you think?

I dont think their decision to put smaller mah despite very great efficiency is "impressive", they know they could, but they just won't (they want you to upgrade)
*
I disagree. iPhones are not really battery efficient. They are just using lower resolution display that is why their battery lasts longer.

iPhone 8 only has an HD display panel which is being used only on LOWEND Android phones.
iPhone 8 Plus has a FullHD display which is used by midrange Android phones.
iPhone X has a FullHD+ display which is used by most Chinese OEMs (Huawei P20/P20 Pro, Vivo, Oppo, OnePlus 6 etc).

HTC, Motorola, Samsung flagship phones use QHD+ displays (2k resolution, as some people call them) which definitely are sharper but of course will have a hit on the battery life.

That's why I laugh at iSheeps telling everyone they have great displays. They don't. Period.
Retina display is a marketing gimmick at least on the iPhones. I won't say the say with their Macbook lineup though...

i see, but mind you, the deepest it can go is only 1M, anything deeper will also damage your phone too.
so cannot really take underwater photo, i think last time sony did it right? which allows underwater picture.

don't mind the budget, but prefer p20 in size to be honest.
*
Smartphones aren't intended as replacement to underwater cameras. IP ratings are there for accidental drops and spills.
I went for the P20 instead of the P20 Pro mainly because of the size. I know the P20 Pro is small for a 6.1 inch phone but the length isn't the problem for me but the width. Too wide and my hands will hurt. Add a case and it is worse.

If you don't mind an LCD panel (mind you, a very beautiful LCD display), then go for the P20.
As for the camera, both are equally capable (a tech reviewer even said the P20 is more consistent overall).

The only advantage I can think of with the P20 Pro is the 3x optical zoom.
No hybrid zoom can match a really good hardware.

In the end, follow your <3

Super slow mo on the P20 is average at best. I went to Sony Centre Midvalley to test out the super slow-mo on their fidget spinner test.

I was overconfident that it will beat the 1080p super slow-mo of Xperia XZ2. But when we compared the quality side-by-side, I went out really embarrassed.

The 720p 960fps quality of the P20 is absolutely horrible. In artificial light/indoor light, you can see "flutter/banding" in the video. It's really unacceptable whereas in the XZ2, it doesn't have banding and the video quality is just really good.

I feel the 960fps on the P20 is just really 240fps converted to 960fps. The wordings on the fidget is unreadable. I don't know what to say but good job to Sony on perfecting the super slow-mo feature (the old Xperia XZ already has the 960fps but on 720p). So yeah..

for p20p how do you guys take to have that bokeh effect. tried few shot but couldn't manage to get that blurry effect at surrounding unlike Iphone where they will tell to move further or closer for that potrait mode
*
Don't choose portrait. Choose APERTURE mode. You can see the shortcut icon (like a circular thing) when you open the camera in auto mode.
You can adjust the bokeh effect in real time.

iPhone X has basically NOTHING compared to features in P20. Quite insulting to compare a basic cameraphone to the P20 Series laugh.gif

HTC U12+ vs Huawei P20 Pro
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66_e9xrL3Kc

The only category the P20 Pro beat the U12+ is in lowlight on the main camera.

But for all other lighting conditions, front camera and all video lighting conditions, the HTC U12+ performed way better.

Huawei really needs to update the software camera algorithm to keep up with the competition.

I used the U11 for a bit last year and it was good, except for the smallish 3000mAh battery. Also very, very difficult to find cheap 3rd party accessories for HTC phones
*
Yeap the U11 had the best camera back then.
HTC started the dual camera trend/bokeh effect with the One M8 and the "ultrapixel" camera with large 2.0μ sensor size just like the P20 Pro when used in 10MP resolution.
They definitely went down the drain due to lack of marketing which Huawei and Samsung are really good at.

Anyway, it's not to say the P20 Pro has a bad camera. Far from that. It's just that the U12+ is better in most aspects.
But nobody can beat P20/P20 Pro's night mode. Still amazed how you can take long exposure handheld with no blur.

Having spent a week with it, I think the P20 Pro’s camera has excellent hardware, maybe the slight letdown is in the software. The processing seems a little over zealous at times. Night shots are very good though.

I can’t stand the front facing camera - very artificial results.
*
Exactly. I miss the front camera on my old Huawei P10 mad.gif
It is "Leica branded" even on the front and pictures are sharper with realistic colors.
In my P20 now, colors look washed out. Pale and too white. I'm not that fair but I look fair in pictures. laugh.gif

Huawei could have been pressured because most Chinese OEMs have 20mp+ resolution on the front.
If they put something lower than that, average consumers will think it's inferior.

Well i already bought the p20 pro so I'll stick with it. No need to see anymore comparison unless i plan to change phone. I am happy with the cam results and emui is not as bad as i think. On par or even better than sony's xperia ui and of course much better than htc sense and samseng touchwiz.
*
Comparison is there to know the competition and not to persuade anyone to buy a new phone. The P20 series have great camera but we should admit they also have weaknesses.

To each his own. Stock UI for me is better than any UI overlay. This is to have a "consistent" look and feel of the OS and apps. Look what Huawei did (influenced by Google). They removed the beautiful Huawei messaging app from the P10 in favor of Android messages app. Some apps have material design while others have the stock EMUI which is rather incosistent.

HTC Sense is a lightweight UI with almost stockish look.
Touchwiz is improving (no more lags) and is on par with EMUI.
Xperia UI is... ugly LOL. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(sramesh @ Jun 28 2018, 10:19 AM)
Still feel Samsung Experience UI is way better. EMUI feels cartoonish.
*
Same here! EMUI looks cartoonish and not professional!
I always use black theme on my previous P10 but this EMUI 8.1 has some many bugs that a black theme will not display some texts correctly because they are also in black font color. bangwall.gif

Now I'm stuck with the default theme. Still waiting for an update.
