I got your analogy but there is a big gap between crawling and taking flying lessons  biggrin.gif
Walking and running.. that's a better comparison  laugh.gif

Anyway, 1Gbps is not new, TM shouldn't be taking their own sweet time.

TLDR; How To Buy A Wireless Router

>800Mbps = 4 spatial stream
500Mbps-700Mbps = 3 spatial stream
<400Mbps = 2 spatial stream
3 stream routers continue to provide best price performance
Tri-band routers don't provide additional coverage or throughput
Choose a "mesh" system  if you have a lot of devices and a large area to cover.
It really doesn't pay to be an early adopter.(Wireless AD)
To get 800Mbps on WIFI is not cheap.

The bold part sums it up nicely. So to all who are jumping at the news of free bump to 800Mbps... Be prepared to not only shell out good money to upgrade your router(s), but also the wifi receivers, in order to attain max speed. TM will only give the most basic-cheap combo router that is capable of achieving this speeds through LAN alone! Not through wifi. They be smart, knowing that first..only few people within the already few will qualify for this free bump to max speed plan. As a bonus, majority within this few will not get the really good routers.. So they still win on the consumer, government and marketing front. So after the upgrades are all rolled out. Do not complain about weaker than promised speeds if you haven't first upgraded your home equipments. smile.gif

maybe they can give hypptv box for unifi lite 10mbps after upgrading unifi turbo campaign 100mbps. before this, unifi lite user just get unifi@play tv via smartphone or website.

Hopefully.. you wait first and see if those ppl's infra can even support the 100Mbps.. smile.gif

like me.. who has been long time contract ended.. went to TMpoint to changed package from the ol 10mbps.
i ask for termination and want to reapply back the adv 30mbps (rm139). bcoz want new equipment.

the CS said no need terminate.. just reapply new package.. the old package will auto terminate and prorated the remaining usage.
if terminate, the port will free and can be taken by others.

the equipment, TM tech comes changed new becoz i ask for new equipment (the CS report damaged equipment)  wink.gif

no penalty or what so ever.. infact i got free the ultimate pack that was received on thank u promo for the last 12months.  icon_rolleyes.gif

Same here... Plan modified with zero downtime and no contract refresh..

Bad news, my apartment unifi was just made available last month, tried to apply just now and they said port full. What options do I have?
*
Not much.. If main TM branches say no ports available.. You'll have to wait for them to come provide more ports or someone terminates their sub, releasing a port. Then you swoop in to get it. Just have to keep checking with them.

I think you should walk-in to TMpoint to update your details, in order to eligible upgrade.
*
Nah, I don't think so.. TM is well aware of my details.. I did give em some fuss when I demanded for a price reduction due to being passed over for the free bump. That was when they reduced total bill from RM179 to RM139/mth for 30Mbps. They told me then that that's the max the infra can take. So I'm not surprised at this result. Just mean I have to get ready for another round to battle for price reduction.

Best you take time out to go work with them on reducing that price to at minimum RM189 per month.. Ideally would be RM169/RM179.. These are what most are paying. Do it now so that when you get the free bump, your price is locked in at the lower rate.

I'm wondering what are TM's plans for people who are not eligible for speed upgrade, it means they're stuck at 30 or 50Mbps. For now, not so bad. But in the future when 100Mbps is the slowest and cheapest package, are they expecting people to cut their line and register a new account to get cheaper price? That's not going to happen because their hardware can't even support it.

Are they expecting people to subscribe to the shit 30Mbps (60GB) that throttles to a BLAZING 128Kbps just to get a better pricing? I can't imagine the madness next year when they introduce a newer, cheaper, faster package and current customer is just left hanging by the balls and paying a premium while getting slower speed than new ones.

Oh I can't wait for the predictable and hilarious shitstorm that will follow.
*
Well, if you stay in a decently located high-rise building.. Better gather your neighbors and start lobbying TIME to move in.. TM won't care. true story.

QUOTE(lukemanz @ Jul 19 2018, 09:02 AM)
What you write is half true and half wrong. Maxis and Time has its own fiber. Also, for Cyberjaya and Putrajaya, there is no unifi there since the fiber is belong to Setia Haruman. When Gov open the HSBB project, Maxis and Time could bid for the project too, but they did not even submit for bidding since they did not have the capital to invest on the project. Gov only sponsor maybe 10% of the cost for HSBB project. TM need to cover maybe 90% of the cost + any maintenance works.

And for Streamyx users, one of my friend already subscribe Digi Unlimited since no unifi and Streamyx max 1M only. So, it shown that people have the option for others, but dont know why they still stick with Streamyx.

So clearly it is not TM that depends on gov budget, instead it is Malaysian that depends on TM.
*
Not entirely.. My FIL's place.. all mobile telco's are quite subpar there.. Sure, can browse websites etc.. But under 5Mbps max.. He's been on 1Mbps since like forever simply because it allows for unlimited quota. Got kids all like to play YouTube.. So tamans like that can be upgraded and almost every house there is a longtime TM sub.. I'm not sure if it's other ISPs not having the capital or not allowed to expand to landed housing areas. So such Malaysians depend on TM cuz they've got no other viable choice.

QUOTE(ycs @ Jul 19 2018, 09:34 AM)
not quite true; my condo where i'm in the MC invited Time to install fibre to all 300 units, currently using TM, and Time is now installing new fibre to all risers so that all units can subscribe to Time, with no cost to us  biggrin.gif
*
Same here... cheers.gif grin.gif

QUOTE(pluginbaby @ Jul 19 2018, 09:39 AM)
Aligned isn't it. It can't be initiated by TM to force the building to adapt, that's out of their scope of power. When the building management initiates it knowing there will be demand, business (Time/TM) will be able to evaluate then execute the next step.

Someone needs to absorb the cost of the installation. Either the building management, TM or Time. Surely Time Will take this opportunity since it is their scope of business and they can't operate on landhouse area.
*
Somewhat.. In my case, I and a few others took the initiative unbeknowedst to our MC and approached TIME.. Took about 2 years of constant lobbying and increasing signature counts for TIME to finally agree and then approach our MC for approval. MC in return asked us and we responded .. Heck Yeah!.. So TIME be coming in and should be done by year end.. rclxm9.gif

Mind you, we did the same thing with TM and TM completely ignored our pleas.. So now, I'm not even pissed.. Been reading good news about TIME's service..

Yep.. Done and done..

QUOTE(ClarenceT @ Jul 19 2018, 01:01 PM)
But some Internet users will continue using Streamyx and refuse to migrate to Unifi.
TM shall remove copper lines and discontinue Streamyx services at FTTH areas to cut cost.
*
Pretty sure many subs would agree to having their lines upgraded to full FTTH.. whistling.gif

QUOTE(lukemanz @ Jul 19 2018, 01:04 PM)
I truly understand the frustration, just like me when I went back to my parent house. Only TM knows how they pick the area that they change from copper to fiber. From what I heard, they said that people complaining no unifi coverage, but only less than 10 people register interest to subscribe unifi. Than, that made their planning team hard to justify to invest fiber infra.
If what you write is true, then why is fiber in Cyberjaya and Putrajaya belongs to Setia Haruman? (like what I write)
If all mobile telco's are quite subpar there, then clearly all mobile telco also feels that the area have low demand. From business point of view, it is not realistic to invest in low demand area. Maybe only gov can do something about it.
Yeah, suddenly TM have MOU with TNB after that whistling.gif
*
No, it's definitely not a low demand area.. It's actually the main capital of the state. FYI, there are differences between being realistic and simply not caring. Example? My place is also in KL city center and surrounded by train stations, plus an upcoming MRT station. All within max 5 minutes walking distance. Yet condos in the area are still stuck on max 30Mbps lines.. Fortunately, TIME cares more than TM and are expanding here. How's that for a low demand or TM being realistic. doh.gif they just don't care.. Simple.

QUOTE(MGM @ Jul 19 2018, 02:08 PM)
But unifi is already sending bills by email, still need to incur extra cost?
*
My point exactly.. Anyways, as recent posts shows.. They finally used their brains and resources. laugh.gif

To avoid unlucky people who are not eligible for any upgrade to mass protest against TM. cool.gif

If can't check eligibility = TM can simply tell customers to WAIT... WAIT....WAIT...and wait forever for the email that will never arrive  whistling.gif

If your condos is still using copper, definitely it is your condos developer fault not using fiber when they build the condos.
Yes, if unifi and Time already available, then definitely demands is there.
Haha..talking about caring  rclxub.gif
TM decision is business entity decision. Let say TM have 1Million budget, they have to make decision whether they need to use it for new no infra area, or for streamyx area or for unifi VDSL area. They already got revenue for streamyx area and unifi area. So, the priority will be using the budget for new no infra area to get more revenue. If I'm the CEO, I will also do like that.
For Time, they did not have revenue in unifi fiber area and unifi VDSL area. So between unifi fiber area, unifi VDSL and new no infra area, they go for unifi VDSL area since they confident it has demand (vs new no infra area) and can win the customer (vs unifi fiber area). Again, same like TM, Time decision is business entity decision.
*
I've been at current location the past 5 years (TM only, same as older neighbors), been lobbying TM for over 2 years and have been a TM sub for over a decade.... Ok ..k ..k.. Bla bla.. TLDR: my initial assessment is accurate.. TM doesn't care about existing users, while TIME does and will steal their subs.. icon_rolleyes.gif

*
Ain't it mighty impressive if we are able to also correctly guess where this your rural area be... doh.gif Speeds (officially) are on an "up to" basis and dependent on the present infra there. Unofficially, if 30Mbps down? It'll be 10Mbps upload. Real life can be between 25-31Mbps down & 8-11Mbps up. As long as within say 80% through LAN cable, it's acceptable.

*
Yeah, the speed depends on the type of cabling and also service present at your location. Max speeds for those not on full fiber network..AFAIK, is 50Mbps, mostly 30Mbps and below. If your area is Streamyx or "Pre-Unifi" area? Speeds would be 10Mbps and below.
