TLDR; How To Buy A Wireless Router>800Mbps = 4 spatial stream
500Mbps-700Mbps = 3 spatial stream
<400Mbps = 2 spatial stream
3 stream routers continue to provide best price performance
Tri-band routers don't provide additional coverage or throughput
Choose a "mesh" system if you have a lot of devices and a large area to cover.
It really doesn't pay to be an early adopter.(Wireless AD)
To get 800Mbps on WIFI is not cheap.Source:smallnetbuilder
The bold part sums it up nicely. So to all who are jumping at the news of free bump to 800Mbps... Be prepared to not only shell out good money to upgrade your router(s), but also the wifi receivers, in order to attain max speed. TM will only give the most basic-cheap combo router that is capable of achieving this speeds through LAN alone! Not through wifi. They be smart, knowing that first..only few people within the already few will qualify for this free bump to max speed plan. As a bonus, majority within this few will not get the really good routers.. So they still win on the consumer, government and marketing front. So after the upgrades are all rolled out. Do not complain about weaker than promised speeds if you haven't first upgraded your home equipments.
