Couldn't agree more, didn't bother to use after hearing so many complaints, what a disappointment from a well known Giant.

They might as well shut down operations, our local newbies can even put them to shame

i transferred back the balance to my bank account immediately after the promo ended. it's kinda useless and unreliable wallet in malaysia compared to boost and favepay

Wouldn't bother.

Probably due to first day of the promotion and also the first day that Starbucks accepting Wechat Pay I guess...  hmm.gif

Welcome to world of WeChat, the most poorly executed wallet here, I'm waiting for them to fail and close shop

It's not hard. brows.gif

Potential e wallets like Grabpay and Favepay needs some love as well, and if someone can open a Boost thread in this section then it would be perfect tbh.
*
Though some said Grab is lousy, I personally like both Grab and Fave. Each of them have their unique selling points, apart from Boost and BigPay.

It's sad though, it's one of the most anticipated e wallets here and they wasted their opportunity.

Btw, I was actually kinda anti Grab cuz of the monopoly issue, so I didn't wanna bother about Grabpay as well. But after a while, I didn't really care anymore, because Grab is still the most reliable one when it comes to e hailing, thought of giving others a chance but they are having issues. And then thought of giving Grabpay a chance and it's actually not that bad lol, I can see it replacing Wechat Pay in my case.

And that's how you survive as an e wallet service here I guess, you gotta be quick in partnering with merchants, provide attractive rewards, advertise more etc., which Wechat failed to do all of them.
*
The fact that they allow Amex, and some ongoing discount also their redemption (which is quite good actually) worth to be kept alongside the rest. Nowadays there will not be the perfect e-wallet, need to keep a few and use selected ones at the right time, right place.

Not so popular? Allocated quota still have many leftover biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Jason @ Nov 26 2018, 12:14 PM)
I doubt it, I see plenty of people using it in Midvalley. Probably because its popular.

So far it seems everyone is eligible for WeChat's promotions, and no stupid t&c like first come first serve, or limited quota BS. I already used my quota, so now its RM13 for a grade frap, still a damn good deal.
*
Hopefully no screw up like what happened with Llao Llao, still haven't tried this since the disappointment with Llao Llao. But so far no negative feedback so I guess it's running well

Just back from China, tried registering new WeChat account using HK number, no luck, still cannot use China wallet. Was told that it's very simple, just get a China sim card and open a bank account to link it to WeChat, but many also told me now it's super difficult to open a China bank account.

Not willing to go through all the hassle so just use cash. Main issue with using cash:-
- of course super inconvenient
- safety issue (I normally will keep some in hotel, some bring along to diversify risk, but using e-wallet is still so much safer)
- once local see you pay with cash, they almost certain that you're foreigner, I prefer to be under radar, not easy for them to know we're not local actually.
- once they know you're foreigner, chances of changing fake money to you is higher. Last time during cash era, most local can differentiate fake notes so they might not take their chances, they likely to return fake to foreigners. Now they know you're foreigners, chances to return fake is much higher

Yes, cannot use. My main priority to use is in China, luckily that's OK.
Hmm. Hmm. You know what... Somebody shared earlier how to get China wallet without the hassle. I asked my Malaysian friend to try and confirmed it's working.

You just need someone to send you money in RMB, RMB 0.10, RMB 1 or any amount. Then enter your credit card details to link it. You will have China wallet.. That credit card serves no purpose though just as a linkage. You cannot use it to pay. Our wallet only allows fund stored in the wallet.
*
Let me try again, I got someone sent me RMB but failed, can't remember if I did try to link my credit card. I'll try it again.
Thanks

If the credit card serves no purpose, how to top-up the wallet,  from other China wallet?

QUOTE(wtw0911 @ Nov 27 2018, 09:15 AM)
By this sentence "Enter your credit card details to link it", do you mean a China CC or Malaysia CC?
*
QUOTE(fruitie @ Nov 27 2018, 09:20 AM)
Yes, find someone to transfer credit to you.
Any Malaysia CC will do.
*
Just tried, failed.
Firstly it asked me to enter credit card, I tried, charged RMB 0.35 to my card.
Then it asked to link a China bank card registered under my name. I simply try my Malaysia debit card, failed (because I didn't activate online transaction). Then I tried another credit card, charged RMB 0.35, but still failed. It says need to link a China bank card.

Mine works couple of week back. My wallet's origin is MY and I had a Malaysian friend who has a RMB wallet to send me an red packet to activate my RMB wallet. All I did was to accept the RMB "angpow" and follow through the instructions; only credit card was asked to be linked. What was the origin of your wallet/WeChat?
*
My WeChat/wallet is MY

QUOTE(coo|dude @ Nov 27 2018, 02:27 PM)
I used bigPay naturally. Maybe because bigPay is not a cc?!

Maybe I'll keep trying all my cards haha see if any luck or not

Haha all failed, I tried with 5 credit cards, 1 debit card, 1 BigPay.
Have been charged RMB 0.35 for all.

It works like this:-
1) When I tried to accept the ang pao, got message need to "add a Chinese bank card registered under your name"
2) Then proceed with the steps, card number/details, name, address, etc, receive message successfully added
3) Then when try to accept ang pao again, same question appear, asking me to add Chinese bank card.

I think they used Maybank AmEx to link, even mamamia too. Not like it matters but who knows?
*
I did try with Maybank Amex, failed too. But if they can do it, must be I missed out something here

Edit: I've read previous post, what they mentioned was able to link the card and have China wallet. I too can link my card, able to switch region and can see the RMB wallet. Only thing is, I'm unable to accept any Ang Pao as each time it will redirect me to link my Chinese bank card again

Any idea is it true that it's extremely difficult to open a China bank account? If it's a very simple process (and easy to get approved), then I'll probably try to open an account

Seems like pretty tough:

To open a basic bank account in China you need the following:

1. Valid passport
2. Proof of residence (usually only for correspondence purposes, so your bank may accept a temporary address or email instead)
3. An initial opening deposit
4. Employment pass, student pass or work permit (Required by some banks)

Oh thanks for sharing, guess I'll skip the trouble for now unless I can find some relatively lenient banks
Just wondering since we've ICBC bank in Malaysia, if there's anything they can help ie to open a China bank account in Malaysia.

I still can't find a reason to use WeChat Pay if they don't have promo. Even those without credit card, still so many other options which can earn some points etc, WeChat Pay earns nothing

Some banks are more resist in accepting foreign visitors to open bank account, but it's not that daunting if u could spend day(s) there to make it happen. My friend manage to open one recently after going thru 5+ different banks. U need to have maintain a local phone number in order to use ur online banking.
*
Hai like that really I surrender la, not saying I'm going China 6 times a year, probably most 1-2 times a year, just find more convenient to use WeChat.

QUOTE(fruitie @ Nov 29 2018, 06:07 PM)
I have ICBC UnionPay account and that doesn't help. It cannot even transfer money to ICBC CN account. smile.gif
I tried opening one ICBC account in Beijing when I was working there for a short term (approx 3 months), they didn't accept because I wasn't having their work permit.
Fair enough, I was there on business visa because I was merely for knowledge transfer meetings and not performing work there.
*
Really stupid lor, really don't understand, they so scared of so many things, scared of US spy, scared of this, scared of that.
Last time go China, Visa so easy, mutiple entry for 2 years. Now max is 2 entries for 6 months. Some more need to fill up so many details, wasting of time. Applied US visa straight get 10 years despite having to go through the interview, but definitely worth it.

This method worked when I helped my friend do it few weeks back.
Seems like China has just changed the ruling again. I tried to do it today, and immediately when you opened the red packet, there's a pop up that says that a china bank card is required to use the wechat balance according to China rules. Then it will bring you to the Add Bank Card page. So if you add a Malaysia card, whether debit or credit, I tried both, the card will be added as it can be found in the cards section, but they now really serve no purpose at all, not even enabling us to open red packet. Still, a China bank card is required to do that.

Whew... luckily I enabled mine months ago. Now, really there is no way of enabling china wallet.
*
Sadly China seems doesn't need our money while every other country trying to cater to Chinese needs

Just grab the RM20 Petron promo, surprisingly a lot ppl aware of this promo and there was long queue. The terminal is slow due to weak signal at the cashier place. Usually first transaction will fail, ppl in front and latter also fail. Many ppl did not prior top up or add bank card, they only do it at the cashier. Some even did not activate wallet before, they hand over the cashier to setup for them. doh.gif The cashier become part time WeChat ambassador sweat.gif
Overall experience is very time consuming, do it only if u have feel ur time is worth for the value tongue.gif

Wow the posters so big sure long queue lor, I'm reconsidering already. Moreover, no Petron really near my house, not worth to drive all the way there, to find that they're not ready yet, system down, long queue, or quota finished.

Actually why so much concern of RM 40 or RM 20, whichever amount still can transfer back to bank FOC mah, unless the concern is no more promo? Any idea if promo has any cap?

Ya. I think some people feel troublesome. It’s good WeChat gives us the option.

I'm one who feel super inconvenient, uneasy (don't want ppl behind or counter to see my PIN) and also with so many e-wallets, the tendacy to mix up or forget PIN is very high for me, so I prefer to go without PIN

Went to the one at Jalan Sentul and it worked like a charm. Cashier was pretty patient too as this is my first time using the app it took me a while to get a hang of it.
*
Sometimes I wished the cashier not so patient haha (not referring to your case though).

I was queuing for TGV. Super frustrated with 3 feller in front. They spent so long choosing the seats, then forget T&G pin la, not enough credit to pay la, phone no line bla bla bla, they took bloody 10-15 min to get that settled. And I was buying 5.45pm show, they completed their transaction at 6.10pm. Bloody annoying.

That's why I also rather concerned, when so many debating about the RM 40 or RM 20 balance. Just keep RM 40 if not sure, still can cash out later, unless your concern is to ensure promo still available (if no more you will not pump)
