So now they also allow us to scan merchants, it has been some time since I last used it. laugh.gif

actually the scan merchant function has always been there, I think quite soon after WeChat Pay MY is rolled out. (2 years ago?)
But their marketing team did not do a good job. Even until today hardly got merchants and users know got this function. It is a shame because merchant can actually just print out their QR code for free using their own printer.
Wechat Pay marketing team is basically, upmphh, a sleeping team.

I personally use the receive money function more:

Yes, I only use WeChat Pay in China (of course China wallet).
*
good for you rclxms.gif i only manage to enjoy the convenience of using China wallet for a few times during the time when it can accept angpow and transfer from friends without needing me to have a China bank account. Now I become very careful (or stingy? hahahah) to spend every Yuan left in my China wallet because I know my Yuan can only go out and cannot enter my wallet anymore. huhuhuhu. My wish is hopefully one day WeChat MY wallet can directly connect with WeChat China wallet so that I can laugh "muahahahhah" to the sky. I think the Wechat Hong Kong wallet is already able to connect with Wechat China wallet in which Hong Kong dollar will auto convert to Chinese Yuan when doing transaction. Hope that can happen to our Malaysian version too....

Hey guys, I can use MY card to topup on my wechat account, then able to transfer to another wechat user right ?
*
My experience:

1. So far you can only use debit card to top up. Credit card cannot. (Actually, even if your Wechat Pay MY wallet is empty, you can also transfer money to other parties, as long as you have linked your wechat pay with your debit card. Then the money will be directly pulled from your bank to pay that person. No need to take the trouble to first transfer money to wechat pay then transfer from wechat pay to friend)

2. Can transfer to another wechat user by him/her showing you his/her Receive Payment QR code (regardless of whether he/she is in your wechat contact list or not) (Max RM 300 each transaction). If the user is already in your wechat contact list, then you have an extra option by transferring via Red Packet (max RM 200 each transaction).

3. Yeah, fruitie is right, I think no matter how, the receiver needs first to have his/her Wechat Pay MY wallet verified.

It won't work unless you are already verified with CN identification ID. The transaction will fail.
*
If have RMB balance in CN wallet, can pay. Just can money out, cannot money in (if not verified with CN identification ID)

Just purely reload and withdraw? Any spending?
*
actually as long as you have linked your wechat pay (MY) with your Malaysian bank, you can perform transaction without needing to reload your wechat wallet. Wechat pay (MY) will auto deduct from your bank account.

I think what fruitie meant was, regardless of how she got balance in her wechat wallet (can be transferred by friends, or she reloaded by herself), the balance can be withdrawn easily to bank, and usually the money will be in your bank the next working day.

an additional note that, withdrawal of balance from wechat pay to our bank is free of charge, unlike other e-wallets.

Nothing. Just using a dormant account as holding to deposit or withdraw from wechat instead of using main account. Security issue.

Is it? But no matter how, a China bank account is still a must, right?

anyone wants some yuan? unable to do transactions with it, but can transfer to other wallets right?

as far as I know, even transferring also cannot, if the receiver does not have a China bank account bind with the wallet.
Or else it would be much much much easier!

You can use credit card to "Quick Pay", no need to top up the ewallet. smile.gif
*
yeah. it will deduct automatically from your credit card.
by the way, my doubt arising from this is, is "Quick Pay" counted as contactless transaction (you know, nowadays some credit cards offer cashback for contactless transactions)?

Contactless - Paywave for Visa, excluding Online, Phone/Mail order, Direct debit.

OK, Quick Pay has nothing to do with Visa, this one makes sense
But which category does it fall into among 'Online', 'Phone/Mail Order', 'Direct debit'? It is, hmm, "Phone"? rclxub.gif

What happened to Wechat pay?

Last time I can see many merchants can accept it. Nowadays I can see most of the merchants are focusing on using Maybank qr pay, boost, touch n go or grab pay only
*
In Kuching, what I can see is the other way round. More merchants are accepting Wechat Pay MY. Previously I can hardly see any Wechat Pay MY accepted except in KK Supermart, Starbucks, Petron, Boulevard supermarket, Tealive and llhaolhao. Now more accepting it, like at Nando's, Parkson, Mr DIY, Pizza Hut, Sakae Sushi, Harvey Norman...

However, need to note that these merchants accept Wechat Pay MY not because they specifically apply for it (I think la). In fact Wechat Pay MY is included as a "package" when the merchants apply with GHL, a payment service provider for cashless payment. So along with other more active players like Grab Pay, TNG, Boost, Alipay, then plus one Wechat Pay MY at the back of the package list offerd by GHL. If you ask which shop has Wechat Pay MY as a standalone sticker pasted on their payment counter, I cannot recall much. I am really curious if anyone is really using Wechat Pay MY to pay - I mean, it is no doubt a good convenient cashless method because users no need to download additional app (if they already have Wechat), but since other players are offering points and cashbacks, they are much more attractive.

Second reason why Wechat Pay MY is leaving behind would be due to the government initiative to choose TNG, Grab and Boost as the official e-wallets to give away money. Of course these three wallets enjoy higher status and popularity both between the merchants and consumers.

Third reason is the way Wechat Pay MY advertise itself. A lot of people do not even know Wechat Pay MY has been launched and can be used in Malaysia. Some shops have "微信支付", which means only Wechat Pay China wallet is available. Only when it is displayed in English as "Wechat Pay MY", then it means Malaysian wallet can be used. Don't you think this will only create confusions among the users?

Anyway, as what I have been saying, the main reason would be Malaysian Wechat Pay team not performing, to put it simple. You see, under the current covid situation, everybody is going towards online ordering, be it service or food, yet Wechat Pay Malaysian team just sits there doing nothing, such a waste to lose its privilege (as in the successful experience obtained by Wechat Pay in China) and its potential customers. Wechat Pay MY has an office in Mid Valley, but I really wonder what do their staff do everyday?

On their Facebook page, for the past 1 year they rather spent time and effort posting promotional posters on all kinds of festive greetings, but no other practical promotions or useful tips to help users learn more about Wechat Pay MY. It is just so... pathetic.
