I still can't seem to make the leap to RTX GPUs... If I were to upgrade from my 1080 Ti, it would only make sense to go to 2080 Ti. But the difference in performance between the two in non-RTX titles, that unfortunately I feel I cannot justify.

"Metro Exodus" takes the cake for best RTX implementation followed by "BFV".

SotTR is shakehead.gif

...still not enough to make me excited to make that leap to 20-series.

What would it take? Perhaps "Cyberpunk 2077". RTX is still 'nice to have' to me.

If one is willing to sacrifice FPS significantly @ 1080p with Ray Tracing turned on Medium, then I would say "RTX GPUs still not necessary"

I'm gaming mostly at 4K these days on my 1080 Ti, just switching to 1440p, the visuals seems blurry.. what more 1080p sweat.gif

1080 Ti -> to a 2080 seem to provide "significant performance boost" laugh.gif

This is such a neat comparison between Pascal vs. Turing on RT performance.

I am convinced the future is RTX, but not right now for me at least.

I'm excited that I'm able to toy around with Ray Tracing on my GPU.

I feel the whole reasoning behind enabling this on Pascal GPUs is obviously to convince more gamers to move to Turing & to prove RT cores do indeed "work".

Nvidia clickbait at its best... then again they didn't confirm when it will be unvieiled. SUPER could be unveiled at E3 2019... It is either a new GPU (I'm thinking a supercharged Turing) or a new product based on GeForce GPU. Wouldn't be surprised if it could also be cloud based gaming powered by GeForce.

+Keanu Reeves 😁

Hopefully by April 2020, I would have gotten an RTX GPU.

I've said it before...
I know it's all hype at the moment, but it's CDPR... This title is THE catalyst for me to pursue an RTX GPU by the release date. Who knows what other RTX GPU releases Nvidia could have had by then, refresh or maybe 7nm 🤔

We still haven't seen SUPER 😁

Edit: lolwut...

Nvidia is going to unleash 2080 Ti SUPER among others... Looks like Jen-Hsun is unleashing hell 😂

Very good yeah, not regretting buying one. After the 2080ti announced, straight I bought the 1080ti lol

Same here. Currently using the FTW3 1080 Ti and loving it!

Eventually it will be an RTX GPU for me, hopefully next year.

Got a used 1080Ti for RM2.5k half year ago. Hoping to save up for a 2080 Ti/Ti Super by the time Cyberpunk 2077 comes out tongue.gif

Haha... exactly my case... got mine for RM2.5k as well after Turing launch. Was lucky to pick up a FTW3.

Yes, Cyberpunk 2077 is the ONLY reason I see at this moment to get an RTX GPU and I'm hoping by April 2020.

When has Nvidia GPU names lately ever made sense...

I remember Titan X (Pascal) which some reviewers called Titan XP... and then Nvidia proceeded to release an actual Titan Xp doh.gif

20-series -> 16-series

Should have brought back the classic "Ultra" naming scheme... 2060 Ultra / 2070 Ultra / 2080 Ultra sounds much better.

I'm more interested in what happens with 2080 Ti pricing... I guess it won't change?

Because 2080 Super will surely be faster than non-Super but it won't be nowhere as close as 2080 Ti, barely posing any threat to the Ti.

2080 Super not worth it then... performance is slightly only better than a 2080. The gap to Ti is significant, a bit surprised by this. Expected more.

You could get a brand new mighty 2080 Ti cheapest around RM4k+ (Leadtek) else try getting a used one.

Overclock 2080 = 2080 Super

I think this card was meant to entice those having second thoughts of upgrading from a 1080 (or lower) to a 2080.

But.. currently more 2080 are getting towards its MSRP and obviously this won't be the case for the new 2080 Super.

For that small performance % gain, really not worth getting a 2080 Super.

Ouch at the 1080 Ti benchies...

True about the inaccuracy of the benchmarks but in "general", it seems Nvidia's high end is taking a beating in this title. Maybe a patch or two will improve things and I'm quite sure Nvidia is aware of these figures.

totally agree with @SSJBen there...

in such games you would literally have a sample size of >100 which means 100+ runs per card under same external parameters to get an accurate mean.

however on another hand... somehow I do not doubt that the 1080ti is 'losing' performance with updates. those 'optimizations' towards newer gen cards have a long history with nvidia biggrin.gif
*
You mean... "gimping" older cards laugh.gif

I don't believe that... between drivers the difference might be there but very small / not to the point of dropping a high-end to a mid-range. That's what I believe whistling.gif

Here are some key design considerations of the new NVIDIA RTX 3080 graphics card:

1. The fans are bi-directional. One fan has an open-intake at the bottom while the other has an open-intake at the top. While it is hard to judge the exact direction of each fan I would assume the bottom one to be a static pressure fan while the top one throws air out in an attempt to keep air flowing through the fins.

2. The heat sink is curved. This is a very interesting design because normally it would disrupt airflow but NVIDIA seems to be attempting a push full configuration which would rely on pressure differentials to keep the air flowing and might work wonders with this design philosophy.

3. The PCB is irregularly shapes and ends when it touches the heatsink. In the image below, only the grey plastic part of the RTX 3080 houses the PCB, the fan section does not. This confirms previous rumors that had indicated a small and irregular shaped PCB for NVIDIA's upcoming Ampere GPUs.

4. This is almost certainly a Founder's Edition (if NVIDIA still wants to call these that) GPU. A design like this would be incredibly hard to tool and machine and AIBs would almost certainly prefer to go with their traditional Heatpipe and triple fan designs if NVIDIA allows them. Unless we see some form of packaging with NVIDIA supplying these parts (not going to happen) what you are looking at is almost certainly a founders edition run in limited quantity (and very high MSRP).
3080 = Slightly slower than a 2080 Ti... drool.gif Wonder what the Ray Tracing performance / Pricing going to be like.

30-series should 'correct' the issues that 20-series had, you can always count on Nvidia to do that. Nvidia is always aware of gamers' rants/complaints. Think GTX 400 series; it was refined with GTX 500 series.

DLSS - resolved with DLSS 2.0, could have further updates with Ampere.

Ray Tracing - impact on performance remains to be seen but I'm confident Ampere series will cause less FPS drop than Turing.

Plus, as with any new GeForce series, Nvidia will throw in a few new features/goodies to entice buyers be it software or hardware level.

If you skipped 20-series because it wasn't as exciting/price-to-performance ratio wasn't favorable, 30-series should do the trick.
