So a 4080 Ti (super)?  doh.gif

I still remember the day where the new xx60/70 GPU is on par with last generation's xx80 (Ti) GPU - see the 3070 for instance sweat.gif
*
Yeah like my 3060TI getting almost same as 2080TI that is jumping 4 segments above. This wont happen again when Nvidia is king.

Just wanna get some opinions here. I have a 3070, 5800X3D and a 650W Corsair rmx PSU. I play on a 4KTV, but of course I need to use DLSS and/or play at a lower resolution. I feel like I'm quite VRAM constrained. What would be the best upgrade path here assuming a 5080/90 and a 4090 is out of my budget.

4070ti Super: Cheapest option that shouldn't bottleneck my CPU or exhaust PSU, but limited options/supply and only a 1 gen and tier upgrade.
4080 Super: Roughly 1k more expensive than above, but very close to the 5080 while most likely being much cheaper. However CPU will probably be bottlenecked and a bit risky to pair with the PSU unless undervolted. PSU upgrade adds another RM600-800 to the price. Also limited options/supply.
5070ti Super: Will probably end up being less powerful than the 4080Super, and possibly at a worse price. Might be a sweet spot for CPU/PSU though. Should wait for reviews and actual prices but worried by that time the 40series will have even worse availability.

I am not a pro so assumptions above might be wrong. I wonder if I should also consider the used market for 4070tisuper or 4080super, maybe even the OG 4080?
*
If your not into RT, a more value for money option can consider Radeons ie 7900XT, XTX. Quite worth for 4K native with plenty of VRAM. In any case moving up you will need to upgrade PSU too at least 850W. Your current PSU only good up to 4070S.

Hi,

The bundle purchase, these shops won't allow buyers to choose what mobo or parts to purchase?

Thanks.
*
Depending on which shop they might allow you to choose within certain price range. Worse is if they are less stocks and dont allow. But generally all X870 mobos from branded AIB are well specced, unless you want a certain look ie White theme.

Bigger VRAM buffer only useful if you have a core that will go faster with more ie xx70series above. For xx60series cards its pretty useless.

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidia-g...i-16-gb/31.html
This is what TPU has to say; "But for the vast majority of games out there, 99% at least, there is no difference between a 8 GB and 16 GB card, at 1080p and 1440p. Even in those rare cases, justifying the price increase of $100 is impossible in my opinion. The better approach is to dial down a setting or two, to reduce VRAM pressure."

Hoping for more VRAM when the core is pitiful is like strapping a GT wing onto a Saga and expect it to go faster.

Hotspot 5080 (Igor Lab)

Worth a read (via google translate)

Bad cooling on VRM
*
The problem with his findings is that not all boards are made the same, different AIB can give different results. Whatmore FE model which is totally different config than these AIB. So unless Igor is trying to be clickbait he should expand his testing to other AIB cards & FE to be sure.

Recall that he is also the guy whom hype up Alphacool fan with perf deltas far above the best and which nobody in review community could reproduce even near his results. He lost a whole lot of credibility from that and its going downhill cool2.gif

Guess I'll aim to get a 4090 or 5090 after all. Also, 16GB VRAM really bugs me.
*
If your not into RT, 7900XT/XTX is more value for money with loads of VRAM

and a 5080 is RM5500-RM5800.
*
LOL if you follow the tered here, pricing is nowhere near MSRP but wayyy higher. And if you want it currently you have to get a whole new rig. Radeon GPU can buy standalone anytime.

For RT I would say 7900XTX is at a playable rate so you wont notice much a huge drawback in playability, avg 60 FPS in 2K.

For PT both will struggle. Heck even 4090 will sweat. PT is not really for today, its just a showcase what you can expect if full RT is viable with available hardware. Right now it isnt.

He did mentioned the sample he used is the cheapest AIB (whom he didn't name) and he presume FE card should be similar to the sample he tested.

On side note, enjoy 1hr "rambling" on 5080 PCB by different AIB
*
Oddly I do enjoy some of Buildzoid ramblings but often towards the end he goes on long pauses and trying to find things to say when he should have ended the video.

That's the price quote I got from the retailer.
Building a new rig to replace my 15-year-old Dell prebuilt, and retailer said I could pick all my parts.

For the XTX, I'd probably consider it if the price drops below 5K or so.

Got my MSI 5080 ventus 3x for rm5.8k with full rig, collecting this weekend.  rclxm9.gif

Full rig replacements, ahh no wonder its at near MSRP. Pity those who just want a GPU upgrade... or maybe not. xx80 cards are luxury level hardware and people really shouldnt quibble with the price of luxury goods. You dont find Ferrari buyers complaining it is a tad too expensive for their taste, no?

Do remember that AIBs are not from the USA and we don't get the cards from them. Seems like everyone has forgotten that most of the AIBs are from Taiwan and none of those cards are manufactured in the US except maybe PNY.
*
Im not so optimistic that whatever affects USA wont affect us (since when it doesnt?). Anyhow I will leave this here as record for others to compare if its going to go up or not

7-8k isnt that insane if its ROG or Aorus Master version... these do ask for $400-500 more than MSRP cards.

Managed to snatch 1 Colorful RTX 5080 at MSRP from Just IT Kepong.

They have some brand that does not required bundle but sold out.

Saw higher end model like Aorus Master but required full PC bundle.

Also they told me RTX 5070 series most likely no need bundle as macam got more stock coming this month when release.
*
China AIB like Colorful & Manli even Galax are not as popular as Taiwan AIB. Likely wont need bundle but also any stocks sells fast.

In MY , the 5080s aren't in severe shortage like the 90s.
There are way more stocks of 5080s than 5090s.

Look around the places, you may actually find a few with slightly higher price tags. I am hesitate to point out the shop here because they were all scalping on the 90s.
This situation is different with 5090. Not only it is scarce , even if they got stocks the shop and brand's staff called dibs on them first.
ROG got like 5 cards. 3 of them are sold to staff , they kept 2 of them and selling at absurd price.

The next batch of 5090 GPU is going to be worse , because USA has already enforced the trump's tariff. Effectively from few days ago , all GPU got a 170% bump from its original MSRP .
Distributors would much rather ship 5090 to US since they can sell for more. Its similar to the situation where they banned 4090 in China.
On top of that,  the 5080 is basically a 4080 super super. Not a good day for gamers if you want to build a high end gamer's rig.
But it's not all bad news , among all the 5000 craze the 4090s these shop were hogging are starting to show up again. You can actually find them at 8k ish , again take a look around.
P/S : If you are willing the pay , they are selling FE 5090 for RM 20000+ , ROG Astral for RM25000 + , À la carte.
*
LOL! 5090 is for bundling, 5080 is for scalping. Take your pick which overpriced poison.

And nope to 4090, even if Im in need and prices back to MSRP I wont pay money to support their scammy tactic of hoarding 4090s and now got to clear them. Let them rot on their shelves.

May I ask where?

In Miri, Sarawak here, there is only PC Image.

The rest of shops only sell low end GPU such as 3060 and 4070.

Trust me, I visited a lot of PC shops today. Around 12 shops. None of them sell RTX 4090. Only PC Image has stock for RTX 5080.
*
East MY not much choice unless you can buy via Lazada/Shopee and ship to you.

When they said nope, of course they did. But at least it 4090 came at tail end of ETH mining so prolly wasnt abused much unless he mine some other coin lah. Still I wont support liars.

probably but their newest price list have even more 4090s for sale.
Not just them, the other shops too . I noticed the trend last week just after the launch of 50 series .

Most likely they were hogging these units and previously offered them in some exorbitantly priced bundles.

Pls dont support these scammy hoarders. Let them rot on the shelves.
