from what i understand, crankset doesnt really affect anything, even if it does it will be the chainring
IC. So Shimano mega 9 chain ring only can use on most high grade is Alivio RD/Cassettle/chain now?Mountain Bike v34, The lowyat.net mountain bike community

QUOTE(mingyuyu @ Dec 16 2019, 08:00 PM) not entirely sure, but should fit without any problem. i think it can even fit Deore/SLX/XT no problem. Because I worry Mega 9 system can compatible with Dyna-sys or not. My old RD seem got problem. But now 9 speeds RD only for Alivio / Altus. I don't want change so many parts. Because the XT crankset still very nice. |

QUOTE(pretty23 @ Dec 11 2019, 10:56 AM) Hi guys, I'm also using Deore XT FC -M770 9 speed crank on 10 speed chain. No worries it works, that mean you can pretty much use full 10s casette and rear derailuer too. Not sure about 11 to 12 speed yet but if you need to you'll just swap using thinner chain ring. the FC-M770 indeed a beautiful crankset. Just want to ask Shimano Deore XT FC-M770 crankset compatible with 10/11/12 speeds system? Or the crankset only can use on 9 speeds? ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by SupermotoXL: Dec 17 2019, 07:30 AM |

QUOTE(pretty23 @ Dec 11 2019, 05:05 PM) Sorry for the late reply... Your current crankset is only compatible with the current series(three digits) you have so you are restricted 10sp and below for that generation. You won't be able to use the current generation which have 4digits like the M6000 that is also 10sp and above let's say M8000 series that is a 11sp. This is all due to the difference in BCD like I mentioned before... 104mm(your series) and the 96mm(current series). I hope you're a bit clearer on this... |

I hope you're a bit clearer on this... I am having 104 BCD crankset and the Mega 9 system. The problem is my RD seem got problem, I wish to change the RD, so which one should I get in the market now? Let say I wish to maintain 9 speeds Mega 9 , so the only option is get Alivio RD M4000 (the most high grade in current market for 9 speed now) or try seek old stock deore 9 speeds M591 ( seem a little bit hard )? Another question is can I use Dyna-sys Deore 10 speeds RD to match with my current system ? |

QUOTE(pretty23 @ Dec 17 2019, 09:38 AM) Thank you so much for giving me a clear info for that. Btw i'm using some Dura-ace 10s chain. Oh since you mentioned running Dyna sys 10s rear derailleur however it will not work on 9s cassette or shifter because the shift 'leverage' on 10s rd is different than 9s. You must stick back to anything 9s rd. Btw there's lots of 9s rd for XT up to XTR, you should get a good bargain price for just 30% of the original price. I got my mega9 XTR front RD for rm50 only hehehe! So I can maintain the 9 speeds Shift and just bought a Deore Dyna sys 10 speed RD to use on it ? Better complete upgrade group set to 11 speed, Take the deore XT 11 speed derailleur chain and shifter, Cassette can be sunrace 11 speed 11-50T, remove front triple chain ring and upgrade to single chain ring, usually brands snail is super light weight and take the 34T and remove front derailleur and shifter, can save over 1.5kg weight and upgrade costs is around RM900-1000.![]() ![]() |

QUOTE(pretty23 @ Dec 18 2019, 09:04 AM) Confirm good, especially new XTR or Eagle, combine good wheel set like ZTR crest, pillar light weight spook, DT swiss/ koozer hub, specialized chisel frame, manitou m30 fog, carbon handle bar, the total weight of bike around 8.8- 9 kg quite nice, the benefit is the smallest cog of 10T, if good training enough, the 29er wheel and good cadence can achieve 40 km/h average speed. But the cons is $$$$. |

Got the for FoxShox coil for Rm300 because its been there for years, felt nice and planted compare to air shocks and last longer because it doesn't use much air seals. Btw the trick of getting cheaper parts for old models is by not saying what you want to find when you're at local bike store, just say; "Do you have old 9s bike parts for sale?" ...giving them ambiguous answer will let him think its the best time to get rid of old stuff and will declare what he has to offer by giving you choices of what he has since the seller desperate and its a perfect time to sell out. But if you say; "I want to buy old 9 speed derailleur parts"..you'll make it sounds like you're desperate for 'that' particular old parts and he will take advantages to markup the price. That what i called 'mental' strategy marketing. That's how i successfully deal with these type of people when try to obtain rare stuff without paying more. How much for the coil spring fox rear shock ? Another trick is to get someone who knows the bicycle shop owner coarse into selling off the old bike parts cheap since it can be awkward to sell expensive parts to a bike friend especially the one knew for so long. However in my case the local bike show owner knows me very well so he can't simply put the price, i knew my bike stuff very well hehehe.. Honestly speaking my the bike i used since 2006 until now the GIANT TRANCE, all my components have zero rust neither the bolts or screws. I even riding without serious washing, just rinse with water and that's it. I use all quality parts grade parts which mean no need services or care work. Almost zero tuning maintenance work too. So that's 13 years or bike riding with no rust or metal corrosion. Just scratch marks on the body paint works due to bashing inside the jungle and downhilling.
