is it worth getting a tecware phantom elite? I'm looking for modular keybaord and preferably not too exp. A friend recommended CTRL from massdrop but the price is $$$$$$$$$
*
Both are quite similar, just ctrl more expensive. So, tecware actually more worth if you JUST compare tecware with ctrl.
Both boards also need a lot of tuning to get decent typing experience. Just saying though, even some people hype and think tecware is a good option.
The reality is always same, the price you pay = the quality you get.

Tecware Pros:
- Affordable Entry Keyboard
- Mechanical Switches with RGB Lighting
- Have warranty
- Hotswap sockets (easily replace switches if switch rosak)

Cons:
- Board Flex because using integrated plate
- Cheapest ABS keycaps provided, many reported case of stem broken. Please use gentle force when remove keycap
- Hollow tin milo typing feel with amplified sound

I will only rate this board at 3/10. With certain tuning to fix the cons (without need changing any keyboard parts), will get decent 6/10 typing experience.

Sorry , I am beginner didn't know much about the price.I think of replacing the keyboard due inconvenient with wire but a bit selfish to have a mechanical key.
Maybe this kind of combo wireless + mechanical full size keyboard.Had been using membrane keyboard for years those delll type keyboard.

Does mechanical keyboard had a standard on key cap size and distant ?  similar key size and distance size of every key with standard
I worry it is not standard and I need to adjust the way of typing.

Sometimes , it's a problem when asking those shop to open a product to test type a keyboard. Not every shop allow that.If you know which shop allow , please let me know.
*
That's only apply for custom board. OEM very cheap, because mass production, custom on the other hands, pick best parts and assembly manually.

Keycaps size and distance is same per profile. OEM, Cherry, DSA, DCS, SA, XDA etc, have their own keycaps size and distance.

As far as I know since many years in industry, only few brand have sample board to test like filco, cm, ducky. Some open and let u test, then close it and sell to others. And maybe the board you bought is actually harassed by others as well. Well, happens before, but the shop already gulung tikar for the god sake. Syukur max.

Yeah, I guess I'm a bit late getting into the mkb scene.

I read about the legends wearing off Filco's Keycaps pretty quick, so in the end I'm glad to have a Varmilo, and being able to choose the colours for each key separately was the deciding point.
*
Yes.. Correct. I did keep 1 new filco keycaps for collection.
If you looking for practical keycaps, of course filco stock keycaps not any good.

Hi all,

Need your opinion. Is Logitech G910 Spectrum any good for typing? How is it compared to Filco?

Filco best OEM with costar stab. Only custom better than filco.

Hi sifus, I'm planning to get a new mkb to replace my 7 yr old Cm storm quickfire rapid (black). After lurking in reddit and lowyat for a couple of days, I'm interested to give Ikbc, Ducky and Leopold's mkb a try.

Might any of u know where I might be able to test either brands mkb around KL/PJ area?

For leopold, don't have distributor, you have to import from oversea.

From time to time the keys will not respond when I type, sometimes it happens to the space bar and other times it's the other keys. The other reason being black keys are hella tiring for me after so many years of use. Esp when it comes to gaming.
*
Use so long time OEM, time to go for custom mechanical keyboard.
You can personalised the switch based on your preference, do tuning and layout you like.
Sounds better than get another OEM that built for mass population.

what do you guys think about corsair k68 rgb? they are having sales now
*
If cheap, why not? smile.gif

What i know is they using cherry switch, which is a standard and durable.
The downside is the bottom row is not standard, if you don't plan get any keycaps to replace, it's not a problem.
But, if you want decorate your board with better keycaps quality, and colorful keycaps, you just get other boards.

As long as cheap, it's good for entry although it's random brand.

I looked up some video of DIY custom mkb, looks really tedious to solder and stuff which I have no experience in.
*
Custom board nowadays, just pick the parts you want, and service can build and send it back to you.
Unlike commersial board, which is come per set, give u cheap ABS keycaps (you paid for it), inferior stab (wobble and noisy), stock switch (scratchy).. Real sial lah.. Pay to get less.
The advice you get is different than newbie, because you owned a mkb for long time. It's time to step up the game.

For starter, can just tune your current board a little, to get some confidence level, and understand what custom users are using.

TTC Switch Red/Brown/Blue
anybody has experience with TTC switch or bought this keyboard?
*
TTC only have that orange that sell very expensive.

For common TTC switch, it's not well known, only see it's used in xiaomi board. China market generally dominated by Outemu, Gateron and Kailh.
If you like this brand, just go ahead.

If you neutral, Logi just random brand selling catalog mechanical keyboard. They don't even put any efforts.

Hi sifu2 sekalian,

Been a silent reader in the forum for more than a decade dy, so this is my first post here.  wave.gif

My Razer BW started registering phantom keystrokes when i type, after 4 years of owning it. I'm tinkering with the idea of building from scratch and so far I saw some interesting links in taobao:

https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z0d....id=595880243077

Hot swappable switch PCB's, are these okay? I never heard of these a few years ago so it's quite overwhelming:
1. Can all switches fit into these? i.e. cherry/gateron/kailh
2. I saw these hot-swap "legs" converters on sale. Does this mean that's all you need to make these switches hot-swappable?
https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z0d....id=545139462306
3. On a completely unrelated note, anyone knows where to find keytron/ml low profile switches?

Thanks!
*
Ok.
1. Yes. Can.
2. That 1 plug for LED, totally not related to hotswap switch. You can just use any cherry compatible switch on the Hotswap board.
3. Dunno.

I just bumped into this one-piece casing in taobao:

https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1...id=598617483544

Does this kind of casing allow me to skip getting the mounting plate?
*
Integrated case. Yes, you can skip getting another mounting plate, as it's already integrated to the case.

Hi guys I'm new to this mech keyboard and wanna ask which brand is better Ducky or CoolerMaster?
What other brand would you guys recommend that's not too expensive?

I'm looking for a full sized keyboard preferably with media button.

TQ.
*
Both brands are ok. But, it's entry level regardless how you willing to pay for those "brands" like ducky, cm, tecware, ikbc, corsair, razer.
I recommend you get any you like first, although the parts they use is ok-ish quality. Just try try first.
Later on only upgrade to proper custom keyboard with your preference of switch and build, and better parts.

At entry level, you go event, you wear same t-shirt, other ppl wear same t-shirt, you happy all same gang.
But, when you move on to higher class, langgar baju same shirt, is embarrassment.

Before using mechanical keyboard I been using membrane keyboard for many years. Then heard mechanical will give better much better sense of key pressed so decided to try it and the first that I got is blue switch which coincidentally suit my need, except for the sound. For me as long as that I can sense for sure what I pressed have been registered is good enough. Not until like you guys level of modding the whole keyboard.  blush.gif

Going for modular board and and switch socket I feel already semi pro level, feels like xc0mr4de is just looking for something off the shelf like myself last time. The brand what I mean is brand of switch, like cherry or outemu as different type of feel even though same colour.
*
Really see your preference of what you need.. Even you want a clicky switch also can be tune in many ways, from spring, switch top and bottom housing, type of clicky slider.
Then moving on the plate; plateless, alu, carbon, steel, brass, pc, acrylic.
and so on. Custom board will better experience to any mass produced board. For us, branded is really entry level sweat.gif

Depends on what sound you want, what weight you like. Feel free to ask, since locally still have ppl have this knowledge to share.

1 have 1 here.. brows.gif
Very flex plate, very soft.
Just another experience, however, you can go for plateless to get maximum experience for flex.

Even you explain , not much I can understand.

Let say , the Dell basic with windows key in it at the picture. Is it 1.5u-1.25u ?

I saw some review on G613 logitech wireless keyboard but I dont know where I can find them and open then for a test type.

Normally , as for you guys, choosing a keyboard , without a test of typing , you just buy as like it without even have a look or test type ?

So which brand/model of keyboard is similar to the Dell one or exact size and layout full size with number pad ?
*
user posted image
Standard layout looks like the photo, the bottom row are 1.25u , and spacebar is 6.25u.

We just buy the keyboard without typing test, if don't like then sell it back to market.
I think you can look for board like Filco, or Varmilo. It's great board with full size as well.
