Silky Terrier is the cutest pup of all.

silky is thin lar..esp when u bath haha u can even see that their even tinier. love Euro loads the fur so nice..whitish in color..

but silky is kinda big among small.. compared to toy poddle.. i think da TS's silky is skinny.. reali skinny.. if compared to others.. not mer ?

the standard size for silky terrier is 4-5 kg, but toy poodle is 7 kg.. so who is bigger in size and who is smaller then??

ic....if sensitive skin u got provide a shampoo which is only for sensitive skin ? u can try oatmeal shampoo instead. hehhe yea Euro ear is so cute ='D

well when u throw the ball , and i knew every pyp will chase after the ball where it go right .
then when if ur puppy take the ball , then u always show ur hand right in front of ur pup , then u say give to mama/papa. although if ur pup wont give the ball to u , but u can aprroacr hand to the ball in front ofthe pup and say '' good boy Euro '' and of cuz give it treat as reward although it dunno give u the ball. my furkid love to play fetch ball with me. try it lovepassion ='D im sure Euro love this trick/game.

Yorkshire is also cute but I prefer teh bigger one .. ahahaha. Even if i get poodle, I'll get standard or miniature poodle . I guess my taste is weird gua .. .

Silky's are prone to hot spots.. I visited the vet and met a friend with the same problem.. issit something to do with d food intake or could it be of our hazardously hot hot weather? Hope to hear some update soon.. Btw, Im a Silky enthusiast too... waiting for my house to be done, then I will get a female Silky to accompany my JRT..

i hope its skin sensitive...hmmm

Recently also got the weird dot on skin prob. Darkish color spots. Vet recommends change in diet, said protein was high. Got such thing? Only feed her dog biscuit and dry dog food plus garlic pills.

Yes, when the protein is high in dogfood, some dogs develop sensitive skin or skin allergies from the high protein.

What brand are you feeding? You may need to change to a lower protein diet, or vegetarian diet or game meat diet. The brand Addiction carries Vegetarian and Kangaroo meat diet for dogs with sensitive skin, you can try that.

Daily food should be Eukanuba maintenance, unless there are other varieties with the same packaging color.

Currently switched to other brand already, I'll check what's the brand when I get home. Spots are brownish (red/black). Are silly terriers prone to sensitive skin?

Ohhh... Eukanuba.... not the best brand if compare to other brands in the market. Maybe you should try holistic? California Natural is good for Sensitive skin.

Well, some breeds are allergic... like MS also got sensitive skin, some poodles do.... It really depends on the breeding and also the genetics.... my ckcs got sensitive skin too but she is more of the shedding type than having spots.... if the food is not correct, she sheds till almost bald...

Feeding the right amount of dog food will help prevent pimple/hotspot. Most skin problem is due to owner over feed their furkid & many misunderstand by blaming the dog food have high protein content. Alway follow the feeding guideline & no supplement required if feeding them high quality dog food diet.

Pimple/hotspot usually appear in puppyhood is normal. Once they grow up the problem will go away. Why in puppyhood? I stress again this is due to owner over feed the puppy. Most first time dog owner will feed as much as the puppy can eat as they think the puppy are growing and require all the nutritions, not only that dog owner tend to feed them too much but also over supplementation on the pup that resulted the pup over nutrition in their body required. That how the pimple/hotspot pooping out from their body. Usually it appear first on the stomach, thigh & along the spine area.

No over feeding & supplement!!! Encourage more water intake!!! It help solve your dog skin problem.

Above only part of it in maintaining a healthy skin & coat of a dog. It also involve other things like living environment, products use on their coat & daily care.

Thing that are out of your control are the genetic skin problem. You can't do much about it.

All premium dog foods brnad are good. Avoid supermarket brands!!!

Anyway, I don't really support Eukanuba coz they do unhealthy animal testing and their products contain alot of corn and wheat.... and with the recent case of the wheat gluten tainted with melamine, scared already with such brands.... You are wrong. Its still the best dog food in the market. Alot of ppls are blinded with alot of false allegations about Iams.

Whether you giving chicken or lamb the only different in that bag of dog food ingredient is the main protein source only.

Euro look fine to me with no major skin problem. If Euro have serious Skin problem less than 2 months the hair will not grow untill that length in just short period of time.

Please take good care of Euro eyes. She have alot of tear stain that mean something irritated her eyes or tear duct blocked. Try cut away some of the hair around the eyes area & use eyes drop weekly after bath. You can get it from pharmacy (look for Alcon Tear Naturall II) I think selling RM9.90 per bottle. One drop in each eyes will do.

Chris is one of the experienced caretaker of 8 silky (if Im not mistaken) plus some puppies recently. Btw, thanks for sharing info about Silky..Any questions can ask him.. is the experience that counts, now when do I get to play with ur puppy, Chris?

Chris, the appropriate times of feeding germaine is once a day is it?

Currently im feeding eagle pack hollistic lamb and rice..i feed twice a day morning and night wo...

I currently have 4 Silky. One of my Show Silky already run away can't find her back.

My dog is 4 years old (adult). Sister changed from eukanuba to a brand called "Best Choice", lamb and rice variety.

My dog seems to only like to eat/drink when there is someone around. Food and water refilled when it is empty. Is it a good practice?

You Silky furs belong to Thick & Harsh type. This type of furs are straight, furs thicker that make your dog look thin cause the weight of the furs are heavy. Not easy tangle. Usually this type of furs make the Silky look thin and look like less hair.

When potential dog owner want to select a Silky terrier, look for Silky pup that have fluffy and the furs are soft when you touch it. This type of furs are hard to maintain and it is very easy get tangle but if you can manage to take nice care on the furs the furs will grow out very nice compare to thick furs type.

i got 2 silky terrier. but doctor said my terrier got way too many silk but i still love them as much and they looks incredibly cute to me. will upload some picture later

I would like to comment about this.. for the contributors of this thread.. what is the purpose of breeding ur dog? I have a 1 year old JRT who has a very good lineage and the parents are imported from Australia. This JRT is within the show dog standard and some of my friends who are show dog handlers have proposed to me that they want to recruit my JRT when he was around 4 months old, definitely a very bright future!. Everything was ok, until around 6 months that we found out that our precious JRT have a non descending testicle on his right. Vet confirmed that the non descending testicle is on d surface and a small surgery will do, but the biggest disappointment is, no breeding and no show dog. No breeding as this is categorized as a genetic deform that will past down to the next generation. So as a responsible dog owner, of course we agreed with the vet.. why? Because it is extremely important for us to maintain the lineage and the breed standard of our dogs, to improve the generation everytime and not to make it worst. This is call evolution.
Well our heart is not broken at all, because we have selected a dog that bring changes to our lives, happines and most important of all responsibility. So, I hope that future dog owners who think that they want to breed their dog, please think twice because our small actions can make a big difference.

If you say like that then it is not fair for other dogs. Only show dogs are qualify to breed.

Having a dogs is not to show off that you have a good breed of the species.

As long as the dog that is healthy and strong. I think the dog deserve a chance to breed but of course the owner must take consideration whether he/she could take good care of the dog litter first.

Btw, it is very rude to say that other people dogs is not up to the standard...

Telling a FACTS is not rude. You Silky is definity a white color Silky!!! & is not conform to the breed standard. There is nothing wrong to owned a white Silky. I do have one myself. But I can't breed her due to her color afriad the genetic will pass it down to her puppies.

I currently feeding them California Natural Chicken & Innova adult.

This two brands are suitable for all my Silkies. Doesn't mean it suit your dog as well. If your dog are doing well with the current brand my advice don't change just stick to it.

Well Im sorry that u think that way.. It scared me when I read it myself. But its the fact that I will have to keep for a long time to come. How can u compare a dog to a human? If u know that u suffer from a weird genetic disorder and it could harm ur future generation if u insist to have offsprings.. will u think of having it or not?
Im sorry to say that dogs do not have the previledge to choose of their owners and their future, if they can they will definitely choose freedom. So we are talking about being responsible dog owners who will try the best to upkeep the breed standards and originality of the dogs, and also to minimize the quantity of unwanted dogs.. Im helping my vet to do some charity and I have a long list of abandoned dogs waiting to be adopted.. anyone? Btw, sorry for being possessed by 'Hitler' awhile there.. Im just trying to share my experience as a dog keeper and a strong message to future dog keepers to a make a promise and dedication to oneself, of the responsibilty of keeping and breeding dogs.

Okie. I understand now. Sorry for being so rude this few days because the breeder said Euro is from a champion line but end up got con in this area too... I guess I should have study more about Silky Terrier before I buy... But never too late to learn about Silky Terrier...
