*
Ya same thing I found that fixed my camera lag!! I didn't know this setting affected the camera so much.

Loving my RN5 more and more.

QUOTE(paradiseisland8 @ Aug 11 2018, 09:02 PM)
those with lag were you saving to sd card?
*
Yup save to SD card.

However, I changed to Save to Device, same issue.

But it was solved with changing camera frame to 18:9 ratio.

4gb version? Does it lag again if you switch to 4:3 now? Weird bug.
*
Nope, mine is 3gb ram. Weird but true bug. My camera will lag if use the 4:3 ratio.

Need some feedback from you guys.

I'm currently using the old samsung A3 galaxy.

Planning to change my phone and eyeing this Xiaomi Note 5.

I've only used samsung before and find it very easy to use.

How user friendly is this Xiaomi phone?
*
Before this I was also a Samsung user, my previous phone was S7 edge, and a few Samsung phones before that.

So far have been using RN5 for 2 months plus now, really satisfied with its performance and battery life.

Camera is also great (of course cannot compare with those higher end models, but good quality nonetheless)

After awhile I got used to MIUI. Both Touch Wiz and MIUI has its own features.

I would recommend you to get the 4gb ram one (though am using the 3gb ram one as it is enough for my daily usage).

Good to hear that.

Was thinking between this model and the huawei nova 2.

Then some reader in huawei forum saying the nova 2 is not a pure android...just got me confused lol.

But I really want to try other phone models and I really like the looks & specs of this Redmi N5
*
I think what they meant is stock android (Pure android)?

I suggest you try hands on in physical Mi Store if possible, play with the phone see whether you can get used to it or not.

I think the latest Nova model from Huawei is the Nova 3i.

Hi guys, i’m using RN3 currently..plan to change to RN5..
Issues i faced with current RN3
- screen brightness problem esp under sunlight
- GPS problem, cannot use waze

How good is RN5 regarding these 2 probs, anyone had issue with gps or screen brightness?
icon_question.gif
*
Rn5 GPS not say very great.

If I have stuffs downloading in background or using my Internet, my GPS seems like can't detect.

But if I dedicate my Internet to Waze only, then it works. Weird but true.

Facing similar issues here... Sometime cant detect GPS and network. But usually just restart the app or phone to get it work again. But occasionally doesn't work even though rebooted phones many times. Then out of sudden it works again. Really a crazy phone. The other issue I encounter is there is a hissing sound when I connected my 3. 5mm Jack while charging phone... Guess there is some interference.

Other than this... I am quite a happy users for this model.

I just got notification to update to 9.6.3 version. Anybody can share experience on this version?

Yours is Malaysia official set?

Difference I think in terms of software release dates. Other than that should be the same.

Seems like xiaomi had never ending issue with GPS la..frustrating..mi 8 is overbudget
*
GPS actually not to say bad also, I am using Umobile (the bane of GPS) and honestly it works for me when I need it.

It's not to say very good compared to my previous S7 edge, but for this price, I can't complaint much.

Thanks for your input. lucaswjk, my budget is very tight. Anything more than 1k is excluded. So Mi8 and Zen5 are out of question d. Left with A2, M1, RN5.

Enaleni, i just need more juice from the phone, occassional gaming, and good camera. Android one is a bonus with regular updates. But with the history of MiA1.. don't know the issue will solve in near future..bugs problem, unstable update..sigh..and looks like A2 cannot expand storage and has mediocre battery life.

Idk, i think its back to RN5 and M1. Camera wise i think RN5 is the winner here even the reviews said it has washed color pictures. Concern is GPS only now.

I think i made a choice d..Redmi Note 5!

Sometimes u just need to hear other people opinion 😇😇
Its good to hear that..btw i'm using celcom
*
If your budget is below rm 1k, RN5 is the best for you, seriously.

I am using 3gb ram one. Now can get official set for RM 699 only. I bought few months ago for RM 749.

For RM 699, rn5 is the best value for money.

Why not Max Pro M1 you might ask?

I can't say much about M1 cos I am not using, in fact I was leaning towards M1 when it was launched few months ago, but due to Lazada slow delivery I cancelled and jumped to rn5.

Do note that RN5 has QC2.0 which helps charges your battery faster, and better camera (if compared to M1)

For gaming, no lags for me. In fact, just got a Chicken Dinner just now tongue.gif

Any issues with your future RN5, just post here and we will help you troubleshoot it.

Just get it, you won't regret.

3gb ram and 4gb ram version have any difference besides the storage size? Is the 4gb ram variant better?
*
No difference. Only difference is storage size.

If can afford, go for 4gb ram if you are into gaming.

For me, 3gb ram is more than enough cos I use for normal WhatsApp, Fb, browsing, YouTube and simple gaming.

PUBG runs smoothly without lag, but of course quality setting is set at lowest.

Ive decide to  stay with rn5...very tempted by poco earlyer...the hype train...the thing is i dont play games at all....yes poco is a great value...but rn5 is not bad....somore i still think rn5 gonna be better interm of battery life due to low performing chip...just the lagging cemera frame 4:3 issue bother me alot....hope to fund the cure...18.9 just to much wasted megapixel...
*
Haha I had the same dilemma with you.

Currently my RN5 really serving me well.

Poco is really a great phone too, but I am glad it was launched as to make the market more competitive, we users will win in the end, just wait for more models to launch and see.

I am using rn5 4/64gb and yes can feel its getting laggier by the day.

Initially it was all smooth and nice. I love the miui, the camera takes good pictures.

Nowadays,

Sometimes camera takes 2 seconds to open. And to take a photo takes a few seconds. Huge delay btw pressing button and phone taking picture.

Sometimes while opening the camera, it will crash for no reason.

Yes, mine is malaysia set. And its been only a few months using it.

So yea, no such thing as cheap n good.
*
Did you update to the latest MIUI version?

I didn't update since day one, still on stock version and so far no issues.

Mine is 3gb ram version.

I'm interested in getting this phone until I read your comments.. is it due to heavy usage with high memory consumption? Interested to find out more before I pull the trigger to get it tongue.gif
*
I think rn5 is the most value for money you can get for sub 1k phone.

My suggestion is don't update the MIUI first, try using the stock version and if there are no issues, don't update.

What I observe is updates will usually cause more issues.

Yes updated. But the issues started b4 i updated.

Anyway will see how it goes. It does not happen all the while but every now and then, the camera will suddenly hang n crash
*
I see.

Did you try changing the the aspect ratio to 18:9 instead of 4:3?

Previously I had camera lag issues when using 4:3 aspect ratio, but it was solved when I changed to 18:9.
