I would say it depends on the user.

Power android users knows how to use their devices and optimise it.

If I am still using this in a year's time, I will quote myself here and say that my 3gb ram RN5 is still buttery smooth and lag free

Unfortunately the new updated MIUI will drain your battery more than the original stock version.

Not much you can do about it since you can't revert back.


That's why I don't update my miui.

For below rm 1k, this is the most value for money you can get.

If you willing to add another rm 300 can consider poco f1, that will be better.

Yes. RN5 supports QC 2.0, and normal charger from box is just normal charger.

Just updated mine to MIUI 10.

So far tried the face unlock feature, damn fast. Nice.

Camera also seemed like got improvement also, can set 4:3 ratio without lag. Will continue monitor.

For those haven't update or still hesitating to update, I recommend you give it a shot.

Yesterday night put my phone on airplane mode to detect any battery drain due to Android system. Went to sleep with 91% and woke up with same battery level.



After this will try without airplane mode, but with data off for overnight battery drain.

As with camera, no more lags with 4:3 aspect ratio, and also when launching. Mine is 3gb ram only.

Tip: Activate HHT under Menu settings for better night shots. Night scene shot doesn't yield as good results.

Update for MIUI 10.

So i tested overnight battery drain again, but this time with airplane mode off, and mobile data off.

Went to sleep with 100%, woke up with 98%. Its considered good for me.

Before this on MIUI 9.5.6, I am able to get 0-2% battery drain as well overnight with similar conditions.

Tips: Switch network to 2G, off mobile data and clear ram before sleep for better overnight drain.

So an update for battery life on MIUI 10.

Started my day with 98% battery life, ended today at 60% left with close to 4 hours SOT. This is within my expectation and similar with my previous MIUI 9.5.6.

Note: Normal usage, no gaming.

So far haven't encountered any weird bugs or issues as of yet.

Stock MIUI is 9.5.6, which I was quite happy on, and I didn't update since the day I got it.

However, experienced issues like camera lag when using 4:3 aspect ratio, so just last week I updated to miui 10.

So far loving miui 10. The lag issue also is fixed, in fact camera perfomance so much better now (refer my previous posts)

Depends on you. Try out 9.5.6 first, if you are satisfied with no bugs, then maybe you can consider don't need update.

Owh come to think of it, I forgot to clear partition too lol. But so far so good.

I googled, seems like newer version of android (Nougat and above) doesn't need to wipe cache partition anymore (correct me if I am wrong)

I haven't try later i try and see.

Yup, you are right, my option to wipe cache partition also doesn't exist anymore.

Why not consider the newly launched Redmi Note 6 Pro?

Actually not much difference with redmi note 5 in terms of processor and battery, main differences is the notch and maybe camera.

I got my RN5 from physical Mi Store.

So far never had any ads appearing.

I believe those that have ads are phones usually bought as AP sets. Usually those are cheaper.

Before this I was an avid Samsung user and I was afraid I couldn't get use to MIUI.

But after using it for some time now, I would say it has it's plus points.

Between N5 or MIA2, I would say it depends on whether you want Pure Android. If Pure Android is your taste, then MIA2.

Have you updated to the lated MIUI 10? Previously I had camera lag issues as well, but after I updated to MIUI 10 it really reduced the lag by a lot.

Any noticeable differences? What about battery life?

Nope, not curved at the edges. I just went to some mobile shop to install a normal rm 15 tempered glass immediately after bought the phone from Mi store.. Serving me well to today.

Okay lu, I bought same 3/32 for RM 749 few months back from official Mi Store before the official price dropped to rm 699.

That day I played around with RN6 Pro and its camera has more functions compared to RN5.

Other than that it's the same. Not forgetting the notch.

My 3gb ram one still veery smooth o.
