QUOTE(law_yew_wooi @ Oct 15 2010, 12:15 PM) I feel like going for a try in IMU for one semester. If I find that it's good for dentistry, then I might not pull out from IMU and opt for a cheaper and worth while uni like manipal. But then, can really anyone tell me which is better in dentistry, IMU or MMMC?? I really have no idea as I asked around, no one seems to answer me. I want to know the exact situation before getting into it. wth?do you have too much money to spend to 'test' the course? please define better. both had not produce their first batch of graduates yet. |

QUOTE(law_yew_wooi @ Oct 15 2010, 03:03 PM) Problem is, the intake for IMU is in February and MMMC is August. While waiting for MMMC, don't you think I should do something else in between? I really have no idea. I m afraid that if I go MMMC directly, I might regret for not choosing IMU in the first place. At least after trying for one sem in IMU, I know how it is like. If it is good and worth it, then I might as well continue. But if it's like what you all said, expensive, money sucker and not worth it at all, I might as well pull out and go for MMMC. I don't know if this decision is wise or not. My parents are also afraid to let me go MMMC now as India is facing the super bug issue and I have no idea how serious it is now. ok. if your parents allow you to 'try' the course, then so be it. do something else? you can always find a part time job to fill your time or help out at your parent's company.now the 2nd problem is, how sure are you that you can get into the dentistry course in IMU? the places there are very limited too. super bug?hmm..i have few friends at MMMC who just went few weeks ago..still quite alive... QUOTE(djronzai @ Oct 15 2010, 03:35 PM) yeah quite near to each other. |

QUOTE(azxn-92 @ Oct 18 2010, 05:30 PM) Hello forum-ers. apply to MMMC and PIDC?Erm, my friend phoned IMU today, and apparently there are only 4-5 seats left for dentistry as they have filled up the seats with the A-levels of 2009 batch. So I'm taking the SAM program this year, and it's really a disadvantage as by the time we get our results in December, chances are, the seats will be filled up already. What do I do? :\ |

QUOTE(wgy589 @ Oct 20 2010, 03:47 PM) Haha, i like the word "4-handed dentistry". Next time the surgeon can ask for 2 assistants for 6 handed operation. errr..if you GH in malaysia its always like that for those big operations..one main consultant leading the surgery...2 to 3 specialist/masters students will be helping him out.. one nurse will be beside collecting those used apparatus and preparing new ones..one housemen will stanby beside and watch.. |

QUOTE(wgy589 @ Oct 20 2010, 04:07 PM) err.. i mean the term itself "4-handed dentistry" 1st surgeon?! may i know which country was that?i think medical students are also allowed to scrub in. I've assisted more than 30 operations in my gen surg, ortho and O&G postings. My friends who went overseas for elective were even allowed to operate as the 1st surgeon, under observation of course. good exposure for the student but certainly not good for the patient. |

QUOTE(Julian2103 @ Dec 13 2010, 09:26 AM) Hey Guys, why not think on the brighter side....Im currently studying in Moscow. Im interested to explore the option of credit transferring to IMU. Reason not being I dont think the quality of education sucks, but rather to distance myself from the stigma that surrounds the whole " Russian graduate" issue. I'm not going to start to defend my current university as Im sure many of you are educated enough to realise that the problem with Russia is not the lack of quality of professors but rather the lax acceptance of students. Have any of you heard of such a case? Im referring to credit transfer. Im an good student and it is possible for me to provide letters of reccomendation by lecturers as well as results from my current uni. Im looking to do the fully local program. Hopefully I can be accepted into the first year or second year directly because Im nearing the end of my clinical years already. So it's probably not fair for me to relearn the muscles of the forearm when I can describe the pathogenesis of hypovolemic shock. Please let me know what you guys think and wish me all the best:( finish your studies there and come back to malaysia and prove that not all russia graduates are flops... |

QUOTE(Julian2103 @ Dec 13 2010, 10:46 AM) Yeah I plan to do the one with HUKM. Apparently its like rm700 and allows stints in two different departments. Im going to forego summer holidays and immerse myself into this practicals:) Im looking forward to it as it will be a gauge for myself as whether Im up to par. So pumped up for it! honestly i don't know how much you can prove with the attachment but its a good try nevertheless. |
