I don't think we bench PSU but if you want, you can do a review as in the stability of the voltage, ripple effects, etc. Try read some of them from JonnyGuru.

They normally use multimeter and other hardwares to measure, not via software.

yet another noob question. sorry guys. i cant make up my mind on which psu to buy. so need u guys opinion. thanks in advance for helping

between silverstone st56f, mushkin hp580 or corsair hx520

silverstone st56f
pro: good in stablity compare to mushkin hp580/corsair hx520 right?
con: dont have modular cable

mushkin hp580
pro: modular cable and the highest total watt compare to st56f and hx520
con: im not sure about the stability but saw quite ppl say mushkin not good enough

corsair hx520
pro: modular cable and stablity
con: quite expensive and less total watt compare to both above. so is it worth to buy?

I will definitely go for modular PSU's for better cable management biggrin.gif Don't forget the PSU cable to wall plug is also somewhat "modular" so if connection is not good, they wouldn't have made it detachable at the first place.

prefer the corsair's psu due to modular cable + its performing quite well against some higher wattage PSU...

hmm i guess ur right... As far as I'm concerned, the cons of modular are pretty much what people already mentioned: slightly inferior in power due eletrical resistance (but usually nothing to keep you from buying one), potential problems with the cables (if the user keeps connecting and disconnecting them too much or connect them wrong), and also being a bit pricier.
If money is no concern, the power won't be either since you just need to buy one powerful enough for your system. As for the cables, just be sure you connected everything correctly and avoid disconnecting the psu end.

The rest is mostly pure joy. Potentially better airflow, no unnecessary cables hanging in the case, ability of getting extra cables of a certain type (as long you have free slots on your PSU), and so on. But just like the cons, the advantages are not exactly earthshaking either, but handy to have

I always prefer to get the non-modular PSU's, main reason being is that there is one less connector to have to worry about, one less point of failure...hahah..

If your concerned about the cabling mess of a non-modular unit, just grab a bigger casing, some cable tie and do proper cable management. thumbup.gif

The problem is, not everyone uses all the power cables and not everyone can afford big casings smile.gif Even if the casing is big, you still need to find a place to hide the huge chunk of un-used cables which I don't think is easy.

I thought of that too but if u look at psu like st75f, the amount of cables are massive. I don't think even my cosmos can hide all of them.

Mod which part? I don't think it helps in the case of Cosmos and basically we'll still have to leave all the chunks of cables there. It'll look better if we tie it up and that's about all we can do biggrin.gif
