Not only is Edin Dzeko resisting Chelsea, but there are reports Emerson Palmieri might not leave Roma for Stamford Bridge either.

It was all set for a double deal, the two Giallorossi players making the move to London for a total €55m plus bonuses.

However, over the last 24 hours, both transfers seem to be falling apart at the seams.

First Roma director of sport Monchi declared on Wednesday that the offer for Dzeko was “not interesting” enough to accept, then rumours emerged the Bosnia international wanted a contract to June 2020 when Chelsea are at most proposing a deal to 2019.

Now Sky Sport Italia claim Chelsea are turning their focus away from Emerson Palmieri and instead asked Paris Saint-Germain for the availability of Layvin Kurzawa.

Emerson has only just returned to action after six months out with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and there might be some concerns paying €25-30m for a player whose fitness levels are uncertain.

The manager is ‘particularly unhappy’ with the way Granovskaia, one of owner Roman Abramovich’s most-trusted aides, handled two particular transfer negotiations.

Conte is thought to have identified Leonardo Bonucci and Fernando Llorente as his main targets last summer, but neither were delivered.

Former technical director Michael Emenalo previously acted as ‘a buffer’ between the two, but that role now belongs to Cudicini. The former keeper is an ‘unusual figure’ at Stamford Bridge, Hughes writes, because ‘he is almost universally popular’. Which essentially means everyone else is at least a bit of a d*ck.

Hughes finishes by saying that Chelsea ‘are growing weary of Conte’s complaints’. ‘While Tiémoué Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley were club signings, it was Conte who pushed them to buy Álvaro Morata and Davide Zappacosta last summer.’
