1. As I'm using Vista, there's a disk partition program built rite into it... Just use it to delete the MD partition.... I'll write out a HOWTO if anybody's interested... icon_rolleyes.gif

2. I don't think it's an OS related problem. But not sure... I was never a outlook fan, a bit more used to using Thunderbird. Try using T-bird and see if it still overtaxes your CPU...

3. I'm just not that good at guessing gender in forums, I guess... No hard feelings people... sweat.gif
*
1.ooo...mean you didn't formatted your XPS and install back you Vista?...
maybe Vista have different kind fo erasing/clearing some parts to free memory...thats cool... thumbup.gif

2.regarding the outlook thing...i'm referring to keeping contacts...
meaning...all my contacts information were kept in the MS Outlook...
problems occur when open the programs...it starts getting unstable...don't know why...temperature go high also...

3.only they can answer that... icon_rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(dingding @ Jun 3 2007, 11:46 PM)
The humming/hissing noisei mean here isn't the hard disk noise.... it's the noise that seems to come from the fan....
some high pitched noise....
*
ooo...understood...as for mine...no noise... shakehead.gif

Huh? One day only, I miss so many posts.. XD

On my soon-to-be uni, well.. I won't divulge, let it be a guessing game. ;P

I have my wifi on 24/7 but I only have the humming sound when my laptop gets too hot. Once when I was using my laptop while skyping, my friends commented that the humming noise sounded like having a big lorry in the background  sweat.gif

Will be parting with my laptop most prob later. Dell technician will be coming over to diagnose the problems with my laptop and maybe send it back to Penang factory.
*
so...the guessing game still on is it?....when you will be flying off to states?... hmm.gif
so planning to bring some tasty Malaysian caramel(homemade) to states also?...kidding only... icon_rolleyes.gif

so...you will be getting a new set of XPS is it?...make sure you try everything out when the new set arrive at your home... nod.gif
don't forget to report it here with us... icon_rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(derred @ Jun 5 2007, 10:15 AM)
I really cant tell what the humming sound all about. Is it more like a very fast spinning sound coming from fans? That is normal for a lappy if that is the case. All laptops with any brand (especially hp) have fans that will spin faster if gpu and cpu get hotter. So the faster it spins, the more noise it makes, I guess. Clean the dust like i mentioned earlier.
*
its more of like what you said... smile.gif
but sometimes...when running a big file/program...you can hear some noise as if the fan/processor running it... cool2.gif

need help from Eiraku or derred: icon_question.gif
mind to pm me of how to fully format a notebook... blush.gif
and what software should be inside it after formatted... hmm.gif
if you guys know and don't mind to share...here/front page also can... thumbup.gif

unknowndevices,

Are you using the A/V version of M1210? If you are, have you just recently updated the webcam driver?

I face the same problem (wifi was suddenly off and wifi LED is off too) the other day after updating the webcam driver to the latest version. I managed to rectify it by removing the autostartup programs added by the Logitech installation program (using Autoruns by Sysinternals).

Hope this would help.

Cheers.
*
what do you mean A/V?... unsure.gif
mine one got the webcam?...ooo?...really...after you updated the driver... rolleyes.gif
problems solved and can use your wifi normal without the wifi off by itself... hmm.gif
i think...i haven't updated my driver...would check and update... icon_rolleyes.gif
if still got problem...will call Dell and inform you guys... sad.gif
anyway...thanks wayhow...appreciate your help... thumbup.gif

before forget...which one is the drive?...is it "Logitech Integrated Camera"?...dated 3/20/07?...thanks... wink.gif

unknowndevices,

Yes, it is the "Logitech Integrated Camera" driver released on 20//3/07. So far the wifi is working fine after I stopped those Logitech programs from loading on startup.

Cheers.
*
wayhow...do you mind to elaborate how you stopped the loading thingy?... hmm.gif

unknowndevices,

whats up with ur wifi problem? I dont think the hardware malfunction as it worked for like 5 mins as u mentioned so it couldnt be anything wrong with the hardware. I could be wrong here tho. If u could specify more of ur situation probably we can detect anything wrong with ur problem. I hope wayhow22 suggestion might do the trick. Keep us posted.
*
this happened...when i updated my Intelpro wireless driver...as Dell update pop-up informing me the latest driver is out... nod.gif
so,i installed it...i downloaded it two times...as the first time...before i slept and leave it download by itself...meaning in the morning i would install the driver... blush.gif
but that morning when i checked...the download failed...so i ignored and thought to download it next time... sweat.gif
from that day...it seems that the wifi become a bit unstable and sometimes going on and off by itself... rclxub.gif

then,after a few days...came the BIOS update...so,i updated and thought the problem solved...but it didn't... sad.gif
the day after...i download the Intelpro wireless for the second time...and managed to installed everything... blush.gif
but again...the problems didn't solved...but it become more worse...as i mentioned...
not less than five or three minutes...the wifi disconnect and light off...but the icon(in the taskbar) showed its connected... rclxub.gif

so the problems i faced till today...i tried both wifi options(Intelpro and windows wifi),but still, both having the same problems... rclxub.gif
as Eiraku suggested to sticked with windows and Intelpro is more off and outside/third-party option to wifi worked on... blush.gif
but still nothing made the wifi works perfectly and efficiently...sad~o~sad.... sad.gif

What I'm worried now is you have some sort of malware/virus running in the background and eating up RAM/PF... Check task manager, folder options and regedit... If one or all three fail to start, than it's confirmed... whistling.gif

Added on June 13, 2007, 12:31 amUPDATE: I just played around with my bro's VGN-C25G/G (that's the My First VAIO/VAIO C for the rest of us), and all I can say is it's a mixed experience... The lappy itself if well built enough (comparable, if not a little bit better then the M1210), with the only niggles being:

1) A very slightly loose battery (it's the design itself at fault).

2) A very slight bending of the hinge cover right in the middle.

Even the DVD drive was a heck of a lot more solidly built then the M1210's... icon_rolleyes.gif

The screen is okay I guess, but reports of it being superior to the M1210's, well, are baseless in my opinion... I have the Toshiba LCD and even that  just looks comparable to the VAIO's, what if I had the (supposedly superior) AUO screen?

Starting it up, what are my first impressions?

It was slow... Darned slow... If you think Dell tortures their lappies with loads of crap/bloatware, get a VAIO... And it even comes with the king of crap pre-installed: SYMANTEC aka NORTON aka NOT-AN ANTIVIRUS (no offence to Symantec Corporate Edition users, as the CE is quite good actually)... shocking.gif

Burning up the recovery DVDs (no Windows or driver or whatever install CD included here guys), here I was thinking that it can be customized at start to re-format and re-install everything BUT the crapware... I WAS WRONG... shakehead.gif

It installs everything, with no options, SYMANTEC included... There goes my bro's chance of running everything without the bloat... sweat.gif

Granted, I only had to download a few programs and run MSCONFIG to disable some of the crapware (a few minutes work, thankfully) but SONY (or anybody else who does this kinda "RECOVERY" (+FREE BLOAT) thingy) has no right to stuff this kind of crap up our... mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

Urgh... Sorry about the ranting, but I just had to... The lappy itself is mighty fine... It runs well enough for a C2D 1.66GHz with 2GBs of RAM (+ the 7400go) but the bloat just kills it... rolleyes.gif

I'll do a full review treatment for it soon, stay tuned guys... icon_rolleyes.gif
*
wah!...comparing Vaio with XPS...wonder which is better... whistling.gif
last time...i almost went for Vaio also...as looking for smaller size notebook...but end-up with XPS... icon_rolleyes.gif
anyway,is it your's XPS the same specs as you bro's Vaio?...or higher specs?... hmm.gif
if same...do keep us track the differences...keep the reviews update... brows.gif

yup. T5500, Vista Home Premium, 1gb ram, bluetooth and free delivery as standard and starts at an all time low of 2,999

that indicated dell is phasing the model out sooner or later. 6 months after this, any replacement for M1210 should be the M1330 instead

well my dad say my max budget would be like 3500...never would have thought i could buy a 12 inch laptop with gpu for that price hehe

i forgot to take into account 2 days for order confirmation >_<...hope it arrives before i need to go somewhere early next month

anyways my specs are: T5500, 1gb ram, 120gb s-ata 5400 (free upgrade lol), vista home premium, 7400 go, sound blaster audigy, 9-cell batt, dvd-rw dual layer...didnt put the webcam tho hehe...all for RM3465 after free delivery...last time this setting 5K+?

hmm mebe sometime next year when warranty about to expire ill have some kids "accidentally" knock it down from a 2nd floor balcony...make sure it's totaled...if not...then arrange for a car to "accidentally" drive over it...then it's xps 1330 for me! lol jkjk

hey guys,

just wanna ask, for those of you who have the 1.3MP Logitech webcam, how is the quality? Mine is simply horrendous. The noise is exorbitantly high. It certainly does not justify the price paid for it. My previous webcam, 0.3MP made by AVF does wayyyyyy better than this. Everyone facing the same thing or is it only me? Appreciate the answers.

Thanks.

under good lighting...can say good...but under dark areas...really bad... shakehead.gif

with good light environment, the webcam performe well..clear..totally clearer then 0.3mp webcam

tested my friend's 0.3mp webcam...the picture quality is good...but slow during recording... sweat.gif
compared with 1.3mp webcam...slightly better(for me)...picture isn't that good... sad.gif
really wondering if lighting really playing a big roll during recording or what... hmm.gif

but overall...i like the design with webcam built-in...no problems to worry as nothing to attach...ugly having all wires around the XPS... icon_rolleyes.gif
but cool having everything built-in... thumbup.gif
