how does electric leak occur?? i dont know someone teach me?

Hey guys, juz discovered something regarding the humming noise frm the fan area....

I get the humming noise only when the Wifi is on!
When the wifi is off, there's no humming noise at all!
I don't know why also.....
Weird...

Try yours and see! i guess it should be the same too....

1. As I'm using Vista, there's a disk partition program built rite into it... Just use it to delete the MD partition.... I'll write out a HOWTO if anybody's interested...

2. I don't think it's an OS related problem. But not sure... I was never a outlook fan, a bit more used to using Thunderbird. Try using T-bird and see if it still overtaxes your CPU...

3. I'm just not that good at guessing gender in forums, I guess... No hard feelings people...

The humming/hissing noisei mean here isn't the hard disk noise.... it's the noise that seems to come from the fan....
some high pitched noise....

Oh haha, that goes differently for me. Im good with guessing thing. I think that kind of instinct made me a CS 1.6 team leader i guess, and get better scores if those exams are in multiple choices. It prob some bs but i could see some patterns so u tell me.. 

Eiraku, this one is tricky. U dont need to sacrifice the eye-candy for this one. Trust me there will be a little few of ppl will notice the difference than ppl that will notice the difference. Let us see some feedbacks shall we. It's like a magic haha. I'll tell whats the difference after awhile.

Better use the Windows wifi thingy... ProSet does some funky things sometimes, dunno why... There's no choice in Vista though, no ProSet...

On my soon-to-be uni, well.. I won't divulge, let it be a guessing game. ;P

I have my wifi on 24/7 but I only have the humming sound when my laptop gets too hot. Once when I was using my laptop while skyping, my friends commented that the humming noise sounded like having a big lorry in the background 

Will be parting with my laptop most prob later. Dell technician will be coming over to diagnose the problems with my laptop and maybe send it back to Penang factory.

I really cant tell what the humming sound all about. Is it more like a very fast spinning sound coming from fans? That is normal for a lappy if that is the case. All laptops with any brand (especially hp) have fans that will spin faster if gpu and cpu get hotter. So the faster it spins, the more noise it makes, I guess. Clean the dust like i mentioned earlier.

I think have to call Dell one, something wrong with the hardware... If they repair and still give problems, CLAIM A M1330 replacement... Hahahahaha...

Are you using the A/V version of M1210? If you are, have you just recently updated the webcam driver?

I face the same problem (wifi was suddenly off and wifi LED is off too) the other day after updating the webcam driver to the latest version. I managed to rectify it by removing the autostartup programs added by the Logitech installation program (using Autoruns by Sysinternals).

Hope this would help.

Yes, it is the "Logitech Integrated Camera" driver released on 20//3/07. So far the wifi is working fine after I stopped those Logitech programs from loading on startup.

whats up with ur wifi problem? I dont think the hardware malfunction as it worked for like 5 mins as u mentioned so it couldnt be anything wrong with the hardware. I could be wrong here tho. If u could specify more of ur situation probably we can detect anything wrong with ur problem. I hope wayhow22 suggestion might do the trick. Keep us posted.

wow man...u mean u dun hibernate ur lappie u jus left it on when u sleep? tat sure hurts ur XPS man...it may be the reason why ur PF shoots up...hmm 2.56gb is alot man...wads ur RAM capacity? mine will hit around 1gb++ when im surfing net extensively but i din experience any evident lags...normally ur PF will shoot up upon upgrading RAM capacity...tats normal...
do u experience any lag or choppiness when multitasking or gaming at this high PF usage? mayb u should check if thrs any trojan or spyware running behind ur vista...otherwise do a clean formatting for ur HDD

bad news,PF usage shoot up rocket high...back to 2gb++ jz like the pic i showed..seems like registry repair aren't working..i recall back i have this happen after i done the window logon thingy??after i did the tweak,i felt tat i do not nid the password protection,so i deleted the value in the registry b4 i did the registry repair and window seems to hav some conflict here...its getting complicated..lol...help help.....

What I'm worried now is you have some sort of malware/virus running in the background and eating up RAM/PF... Check task manager, folder options and regedit... If one or all three fail to start, than it's confirmed...

Added on June 13, 2007, 12:31 amUPDATE: I just played around with my bro's VGN-C25G/G (that's the My First VAIO/VAIO C for the rest of us), and all I can say is it's a mixed experience... The lappy itself if well built enough (comparable, if not a little bit better then the M1210), with the only niggles being:

1) A very slightly loose battery (it's the design itself at fault).

2) A very slight bending of the hinge cover right in the middle.

Even the DVD drive was a heck of a lot more solidly built then the M1210's...

The screen is okay I guess, but reports of it being superior to the M1210's, well, are baseless in my opinion... I have the Toshiba LCD and even that  just looks comparable to the VAIO's, what if I had the (supposedly superior) AUO screen?

Starting it up, what are my first impressions?

It was slow... Darned slow... If you think Dell tortures their lappies with loads of crap/bloatware, get a VAIO... And it even comes with the king of crap pre-installed: SYMANTEC aka NORTON aka NOT-AN ANTIVIRUS (no offence to Symantec Corporate Edition users, as the CE is quite good actually)...

Burning up the recovery DVDs (no Windows or driver or whatever install CD included here guys), here I was thinking that it can be customized at start to re-format and re-install everything BUT the crapware... I WAS WRONG...

It installs everything, with no options, SYMANTEC included... There goes my bro's chance of running everything without the bloat...

Granted, I only had to download a few programs and run MSCONFIG to disable some of the crapware (a few minutes work, thankfully) but SONY (or anybody else who does this kinda "RECOVERY" (+FREE BLOAT) thingy) has no right to stuff this kind of crap up our...

Urgh... Sorry about the ranting, but I just had to... The lappy itself is mighty fine... It runs well enough for a C2D 1.66GHz with 2GBs of RAM (+ the 7400go) but the bloat just kills it...

I'll do a full review treatment for it soon, stay tuned guys...

Hi all. I'm back after DELL eloped with my laptop for nearly a week.

DELL changed my motherboard according to the XPS Customer Service and that really solves my overheating problem. In the past, the CPU temperature was 75-80+ degree celcius, now it's around 50+ degree celcius. Great!

the xps screen size is jus 12inch...is it big enough for gaming or wathing movie??

to me not big enough for anything accept msn or firefox.....i am using it combo with a 19" lcd monitor....drag un necessary things onto this xps screen easier..

yup. T5500, Vista Home Premium, 1gb ram, bluetooth and free delivery as standard and starts at an all time low of 2,999

that indicated dell is phasing the model out sooner or later. 6 months after this, any replacement for M1210 should be the M1330 instead

well my dad say my max budget would be like 3500...never would have thought i could buy a 12 inch laptop with gpu for that price hehe

just wanna ask, for those of you who have the 1.3MP Logitech webcam, how is the quality? Mine is simply horrendous. The noise is exorbitantly high. It certainly does not justify the price paid for it. My previous webcam, 0.3MP made by AVF does wayyyyyy better than this. Everyone facing the same thing or is it only me? Appreciate the answers.
