"others" is your iOS system files, but it shouldn't be so big, mine is 4.31gb. You running beta software?

That's why im wondering how can it be taking up so much storage space now...this has never happened before even on my previous iphones.

Try a soft reset. The next iOS update should fix this problem.

Yes, usually whatsapp pictures file size is quite small due to compression but still with a lot of photos it can easily rack up your storage. You may find the storage used by going into whatsapp -> settings -> Data & Storage usage -> storage usage
and see how much storage has Whatsapp used and deleting those unimportant medias within Whatsapp and see if "Others" storage is reducing or not.

However do take note that IOS system alone already occupied at least 4GB in others IIRC so it won't be possible for you to complete recover all 20GB in "Others" storage.

Trust me, I'm not, hahaha.

Welcome on board! If you’re on 11.3 already, you can skip the latest update. Otherwise just update to the latest, shouldn’t be an issue.

I use iPhones more not for the hype, but because it doesn’t frustrate me too much
