Hi hello fellow drivers!
Today is my 1 week anniversary of driving with Grab, I just want to share my outlook and experience of this service so far:
A few days before I joined;
-read through all the posts here from the last 20 pages (more or less, as the pages here grow exponentially within days!)
-I registered a new number solely for Grab use. For this, I decided to go with Maxis Hotlink prepaid with the RM70 monthly pass (which gives 10gb of internet, UNLIMITED CALLS, free internet for Instagram, Twitter etc) On 2nd thought, maybe a bit too much. But i will monitor my usage for now and maybe opt for smaller package next month
-sign up and register for Grab!
-buy a good solid phone holder (I am right handed so I need my phone to be on the right side of steering wheel therefore I opted for a suction-type. Bought from Mr Gadget in Dsara Uptown)
-I am using iPhone 6.
-I am driving part-timely while also managing a small online business, I dont have fix time though. I just drive whenever I feel like.
-I am not currently under Ambassador program but have opted in so maybe it will start next week? Plus, I am enjoying my 14 day commission free drive now.
On my first day, I took a rider to KL Sentral. I was so nervous that I took a wrong turn at DUKE. I apologised but thankfully customer is okay. In result, I didnt charge him for the toll as it was my mistake. Some losses made but I guess it's a learning experience so all okay.
By the 2nd day, I got KLIA as my first ride in the morning as it was near my house so I gladly accepted it. Been reading through so many experience shared here so I was mentally prepared for it (or at least I thought I was!)
After drop off, I made my way to the Charter Field Town. As I entered, I was notified to be in queue of 701-800

It was 11.30am at that time.
I only got my rider by 3.15pm and it was to Seremban. As it was too late for me, I had to ignore it. I thought I would lose my number in the queue but another passenger popped up and it was to Bukit Bintang, thankfully luck was on my side.
I would gladly send customers to KLIA again but I am not too sure if I would do the queueing if the number is too long. Of course, I do not speak for everyone. In my 4 hours of waiting, I spoke to some Grabbers and sharing experience so that was quite insightful. In general. there are better days and some days it gets worse. The weather was 33 degrees on that day so it didnt help. I imagined it gets worse in heavy rain?
Being a typical noob that I am, I was elated with my 5-star rating, 100% AR and 0%CR. That only lasts for 3 days haha. I believed my rating went down on my ride to KLIA. I wasnt speeding but I changed lanes rather often so maybe she wasnt pleased. Immediately it dropped to 4.83.
As I had to cancel the request from KLIA to Seremban, my AR also dropped now for the first time. I have yet to cancel on any customer so far so my CR is still 0, I dont know how long this will last though haha
My take on Grab so far (take it with a pinch of salt):
If your AR is low, pickup all the fishes you get regardless the size and location. Otherwise stay offline. And if you still has low CR, accept job then only cancel. This will not affect your AR (correct me if I am wrong)
If your CR is high, and hopefully your AR is still quite okay .... this should allow you to ignore some jobs instead of accepting it then only to cancel later.Bottomline, stay ONLINE only when you are ready to pick up and be less picky. Always keep an open mind.
Things wasnt all rainbow and smooth-sailing for me so far, but it wasn't the worst too so all is good (so far, haha)
I would always send 'i'll be there in a few mins' message before i tap on Waze. Most times rider will reply OK. This will add confidence to us.
Once arrived, I'll tapped 'Ive arrived' and count my 5 minutes. If I feel like it, I would call them. But what I will always do is to also send a chat that says Hello Im here. I dont know if this is true, but I feel like this is useful when you come across no-show riders as you make complaint to Grab.
I had my share of no-show too but not a lot. As i follow the steps above and I will always wait for FIVE minutes. Not more. If they didnt pick up my call or reply my chat, I will cancel myself. Then made a report to Grab (as what was shared previously by some fellow drivers) Sometimes Grab will call. Sometimes its an email. Whatever way it may be, this will help with your CR. So dont be afraid to use the cancel button, but diligently. Follow all SOP as per in the blog and you should be fine.
KL Sentral it seems, is the most challenging location for pickup. I get nervous when I get this too. What helps me is I will always call customer immediately to ask them to wait at exact location as to avoid me having to circle the area. Most of the time they will understand as they will hate to wait longer too.
The b2b function is working well on my side so far. I have been receiving upcoming job that is either on the straight line from my pending drop-off or it is at the exact drop-off itself. During peak hours, i get panic sometime having to tap and juggle between the pings and waze. It does require some practise and getting use to.
My iphone is also quite stable too. GPS is working ok. After more than 50 rides now I have no major difficulties using it. But battery is draining like crazy while ONLINE (I think I speak for everyone)After most rides, a window will pop up asking how you feel. One time I had a bad experience with a lousy customer (differerent pup location, number not reachable and once got in my car had the nerve to nag). After the ride, I tap the sad face and put more details in the form. Surprisingly, CS called the next day asking for how it was. I asked if the customer also complained about me but they couldnt disclose that. Haha I dont really know how useful this function is but I always believe in putting my foot forward to protect myself. In case if customer seriously complaint, and we also complain about them perhaps Grab would be more mindful in investigating the issue instead of blindly putting the blame on drivers?
I messed up a few times too but nevertheless, I always apologise. As I was a rider before I am a driver, I believe this is very true. Back then when I was using grab as passenger, few times I had to walk for abit to the car as driver messed it up even though I clearly stated my pickup location. As I enter the car angrily, I always cool down whenever the driver apologised. I hope this works every single time.
Oh. Be careful with the tap. Sometimes you meant to tap pick up but u tapped twice then it went to drop etc etc. Dear Grab coders, if you are reading this perhaps move the placement of DROP OFF and PICK UP button between right and left to avoid the mistakes?
Thank you for allowing me to share my experience here. Please take it with a pinch of salt. It has been pleasant driving for Grab so far and I hope I could say the same thing for the weeks ahead!
Dont practice accept and cancel to protect ur AR if possible... The risk of getting suspend if someone report is high.
Android have better GUI in my opinion. I used Ip6 before, when got job, have to press back to Grab panel only can see job.
Android will pop up the job even we on waze, easier n have more time to consider job.
