QUOTE(quadcube @ Oct 29 2017, 08:51 PM) Japan actually have a dairy industry (concentrated in Hokkaido), though it's not in a good shape atm.You want cheaper milk here, need to open up Sabah/Sarawak vast open spaces to dairy farming for a real effort. Anything done in Peninsula is a half-cooked effort, imo. It won't fill local demand, almost zero chance for regional export potential. |

Makanan dairy bukan budaya kita. Also most butter are imported and u should know that ringgit yang lemah baik untuk eksport bukan import.

Sabah Desa fresh milk is also not cheap IMO, I think it's around rm6-8 if my memory still serves me right..gosh i miss their chocolate milk Am not too familiar with dairy industry in Malaysia but I guess now you mentioned it then it's pretty obvious when there's only 2~4 brands of fresh milk in the local supermarket QUOTE(arsenwagon @ Oct 29 2017, 09:09 PM) Deswai japunis growing taller while msian getting shorter milk here in JP so cheap, it's like drinking mineral water or beer (beer is so damn cheap How many kids can even get the recommended daily allowance of calcium to grow.. QUOTE(St0rmFury @ Oct 29 2017, 09:31 PM) Yep - http://www.farmfresh.com.my/the-farm-fresh-story/Expensive because supply and demand. Plus they have little competition in terms of local dairy farmers. Their main competitors are imported milk. I think it's relatively easy to be profitable once you sort out the marketing & supply chain and streamline production. To get reasonable prices for milk and cheese, more locals need to get into dairy farming. Competition always drive prices down (up to a point). Just some random Googling: Malaysia imports 95% of its milk needs but doesn’t develop local farmers for self sufficiency https://rama4change.wordpress.com/2012/09/2...lf-sufficiency/ Gov't to set up board to milk M'sia's dairy industry potential https://sir.nst.com.my/news/2017/03/219740/...ustry-potential To comment on the NST: Malaysian Dairy Board formation in 2018 is a start. Better late than never. The board itself is useless (only good for setting standards and theory work). In terms of implementatiotn, what they really need is an agricultural school (like this example) that focuses exclusively on dairy farming. Our dairy industry is at an infant stage, more skills/knowledge are needed than monetary investments. You need the school to churn out skilled farmers and farm helpers. This will help sustain the industry. |

QUOTE(jfleong @ Oct 29 2017, 07:35 PM) Talking about real butter, not premium fat spread , those mixed with palm oil/ other veggie oil Malaysia doesn’t produce own dairy product.100% butter A small block costs so much, but it's considered a basic food in other countries, costing them very little Price of 1 kg butter, cheapest Tesco UK RM 32.30 Tesco Malaysia RM 42.45 Coles AU RM 31.61 You can thank NFC and Sharizat for failing to fix that. |

dairy products expensive as a results of mismanaged country that unable to compete in terms of currency strength internationally. To say weaker currency is good for export is an lousy excuse.

QUOTE(:3mushy:3 @ Oct 29 2017, 07:58 PM) Dairy product is expensive here because of low supply high entry barrier into the market. In Australia standard price for milk is AUD1 per litre, which translates to RM3.40 per litre.Similarly, you'll shit brick when you see the prices of Malaysian spices or fruits overseas. Sometimes I crave Malaysian food so I buy those premade spice mix = AUD2 per packet, translating to RM6.80 per packet. Over here, they are selling the same thing for RM5+, so only RM2 difference or AUD0.65. For fruits, I pay AUD2.50(RM8) per kg for pink lady apples, say I'm feeling like buying nicer apples, Jazz apples sell for AUD4.50 (RM14.40) per kg. Over here, apples are selling at least RM10 per kg. Bananas AUD2(RM6.40) per kg (but its quite often that you can get them at AUD1[RM3.20) per kg]. Over here, roughly RM5 per kg. Most of the things are cheaper and if they are more expensive its a few ringgit difference. But at the same time, minimum wage is roughly AUD2,500(RM9k) a month, whereas you earn peanuts here and have much lower buying power. so... |

QUOTE(kcchong2000 @ Oct 29 2017, 08:33 PM) Sorry i don't know. Thanks for filling me up.I read that it's difficult but not impossible to raise cattle in tropics. So I guess if they can do it at lowlands, they can do it better at mountain area. |
