Talking about real butter, not premium fat spread , those mixed with palm oil/ other veggie oil
100% butter
A small block costs so much, but it's considered a basic food in other countries, costing them very little

Price of 1 kg butter, cheapest
Tesco UK RM 32.30
Tesco Malaysia RM 42.45
Coles AU RM 31.61

A little bit of chemistry here
Plant fats usually have more unsaturated fat , i.e. fat molecules with at least one double bond (saturated fat have all single bonds) . This means that it's more liquid (lower melting point)
in the process of making margarine, they hydrogenise the oil, breaking down double bonds into single bonds by adding hydrogen to the bond
but for some of the bonds, the orientation is opposite of the naturally occurring bonds , which is why it's called trans-fat

Dairy product is expensive here because of low supply high entry barrier into the market.

Similarly, you'll shit brick when you see the prices of Malaysian spices or fruits overseas.

Price of real estate getting higher. Need to pay more sinking funds and maintenance fees.

You think so cheap to rear cows?

Dairy products di Malaysia mahal. Malaysia should focus more on agriculture. It's one of basic needs anyway. Yet people here look down on people working in these sectors(farmer, fisherman, etc.)

TS, this.

Difficult to raise cattle in tropics.
Also I heard in countries that have four seasons, milk production falls during summer. (not sure, don't quote me on this)

https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/290921181
1 kg = 5.80 GBP = Rm32.30
https://eshop.tesco.com.my/groceries/en-GB/...ch?query=butter
Here 1 kg RM42.45

Even absolute prices already more expensive, let alone accounting for difference in income
