QUOTE(chitchat @ Dec 12 2021, 11:13 PM)
I think Mercedes take the right call but just unlucky in the end. If they pit the first safety car they will lose track position to MV because Redbull confirm going to do the opposite and u dont want and LH fighting with MV as that is another chance for kamikaze finish. Mercedes first decision proof right as MV unable to catch up even with fresher hard. Same for second safety car, u pit u lose track position and race could have just ended with safety car.

Anyway congrat to MV, a win is a win lucky or not. But dont really like the way his drive but Redbull great team nice teamwork there. Credit to LH, he look class there at the podium even have to take his hard lost.
*
Yup correct, given normal circumstances, Mercs actually did all correct and proven MV was beaten until NL crashed.

QUOTE(Scirwode @ Dec 12 2021, 11:26 PM)
I agree, both drivers did nothing wrong, unfortunately the FIA have to make it clear cut where is it racing and where there is an infringement. I do believe Max deserves it by a hair, but he needs to tone down his racing, I feel there are still too many times when he has pushed his luck and not caused a huge accident.

Overall, I am glad that both were maganimous to each other, and huge respect to Lewis for basically holding his emotions in.

Scirwode
*
Yeah he deserves the title but still needs to learn and further clean up a bit his dirty moves. He needs to learn to play the percentage game, for example not defending too hard like in Silverstone.

well from past experience nth will happen..if there is a change it will be even a bigger debacle than already what they having now lol

but who knows lol
*
Ya nothing will happen or else F1 will totally lose face! If this is not the last race with title decider, there's a very slim chance something can happen bit not at this magnitude of a race.

dunno what can the FIA do... it will be unfair to MV. even if FIA admit that they are wrong, they cant just change the result and give LH the win.
*
Yup exactly especially this is a title decider, not just a race win!

Btw aside from these 2, just realized CS finished ahead of CL in the standings and overtakes LN too as the best outside of the top 2 teams while CL is still 1 point behind LN! People rate CL so highly might need to rethink now as CS has beaten him in just his maiden season in Ferrari.

In the end, my gut feeling for this season at mid point came true, MV finally won but RB still lost the constructor.

Yeah. Some critics even doubted CS early in the season but i always thought he’s a steady driver and would be able to deliver. Once he got used to the car, he was probably the most consistent performer outside the top 2 drivers
*
Yup if we look back at all his team mates, he actually matched up quite well against all of them including MV! His main weakness is raw qualifying speed but pretty consistent performer during races. CL has more raw speed but makes more mistakes too.

kimi being kimi lol

the driver today is surely checo, that was a fair and hard racing with lewis yet complain its dangerous lol

too many complain in f1 these days
*
Yup agree Checo's defense was again top class! Actually if there's 1 thing that MV can still learn from SP is this, how to defend hard yet fair.

Another good candidate for DotD I think is Yuki cuz he managed to finish 4th ahead of Gasly but unfortunately unnoticed due to the fight and drama at the front.

The irony is, LH and Mercs lost cuz of a crash by a Merc customer team car, not Honda! Lol

The key is point no. 5, it won't change the outcome.

QUOTE(Aydee @ Dec 13 2021, 08:53 AM)
In MV's words "Checo is God!". Really good moves by him, he will probably get a good bonus for this, heck, he probably earned an extension to his contract. Also I do not agree Toto complaining to FIA to stop it by saying it is getting dangerous. Good call by FIA on that saying they are racing.
*
The irony is that his job is also to help win constructor and they fail.

LH drove so well in the last 4 races, racing god is against him this time.

We probably won't see a 8 WDC after he missed the chance in 2021.

Bottom line is : Millionaire boys (MS + NL) help millionaire boy.  Billionaire boy kena covid

FIA should find replacement for Masi. So many inconsistent/controversial decision for both sides this year.

Also have permanent steward team for every races, since video conferencing is so advance nowadays.
*
The thing with stewards is that they're former drivers. Probably none can commit their time to become permanent stewards. They need to find competent guys who are willing to commit which might be not easy. Masi is supposed to give the uniform guides when discussing with all these different stewards.

they better find someone to replace masi la... too many mistakes. and it is super weird when he try to make an "offer" in previous race.

Wasn't Masi a right hand man of Whiting when he was the race directors? Who else were Whiting's helpers back then?

In the heat of the moment, he will say this kind of things la. Even MV would have said the same if VB did it to him.

Anyway, felt Toto went over the line when he told Masi not to turn the VSC into an SC earlier in the race. That was not right. But for the part when they let lapped cars overtake SC at the end, i can understand Toto’s frustration/anger. Lol
*
QUOTE(sphiroth @ Dec 13 2021, 12:31 PM)
The problem is that only certain car are allowed to unlapped by being lapped under safety car...which is weird.
*
Actually even only few cars allowed to unlap, it would have been ok IF they had told so from the beginning! Their only mistake was initially told that no cars will overlap then change it on the last minute. Mercs itself actually already anticipated earlier that MV will be right behind LH. Whether all or just a few allowed won't matter IF the intention like Masi said was to allow racing!

QUOTE(Aydee @ Dec 13 2021, 01:45 PM)
Race Director’s Evidence:

The race director stated that the purpose of article 48.12 was to remove those lapped cars that would “interfere” in the racing between the leaders and that in his view article 48.13 was the one that applied in this case.

The race director also stated that it had long been agreed by all the teams that where possible it was highly desirable for the race to end in a “green” condition (i.e. not under a Safety Car).

Conclusions of the Stewards:

The Stewards consider that the protest is admissible.

Having considered the various statements made by the parties the Stewards determine the following:

That article 15.3 allows the race director to control the use of the safety car, which in our determination includes its deployment and withdrawal.

That although Article 48.12 may not have been applied fully, in relation to the safety car returning to the pits at the end of the following lap, article 48.13 overrides that and once the message “Safety Car in this lap” has been displayed, it is mandatory to withdraw the safety car at the end of that lap.

That notwithstanding Mercedes’ request that the stewards remediate the matter by amending the classification to reflect the positions at the end of the penultimate lap, this is a step that the Stewards believe is effectively shortening the race retrospectively, and hence not appropriate.
Accordingly, the protest is dismissed. The protest deposit is not refunded

I am satisfied with the explanation, however I agree they should not have said lapped cars not allowed to overtake in the first place. Gave false hope to Mercedes, that being said, Horner and Verstappen sounded they accepted the reality of not winning up to then although good reaction by Redbull when the chance unfolded. Mercedes just started complaining when decision was changed.
*
Yup, if they didn't make the initial announcement and maybe allow overlapped cars to clear off 1 lap earlier then should be fine and no protests will arise. In any case MV would have still won hence no bearing on the result.

I think FIA and F1 fans(not Mercedes fans though) like the excitement too. I thought it was a done deal, almost stopped watching after Kimi retired earlier.
*
His retirement became so low keyed due to the drama at the front! Lol Good that it's Kimi who doesn't care about much of anything!

All in all it has been a memorable great season, just like when Alonso finally toppled MS. MS was about to win the title also in Suzuka until his engine blew up, a miracle for Alonso.

With max on fresh soft, it is already decided who will win.
*
Yup and the only way LH can still win was if the race finished behind SC which was surely NOT the FIA intention for the final climax title decider race! As Masi said, they want racing so no matter what LH unluckily was finished. It's just the way he managed the overlapped cars and race start timing were a mess and odd if he already had that intention to proceed with racing.

Speaking of Alonso, not a bad return with a midfield team, still has good speed and his experience really shows.. Also great job by Davide Brivio in his debut season, a win and a 3rd place, not bad at all.
*
Yup FA did pretty good as a returning racer and still outscores the incumbent supposedly a young talent! Lol Next year with a totally new car concept I expect FA will be even further ahead of EO cuz both will have zero experience and whoever more creative and talented will prevail ahead.

Another side note, my concern that they took away an overtaking spot at turn 9 is apparently not true as they are still able to do good overtaking there. With the modifications, they have added 1 more overtaking spot at turn 5, plus they made turn 14 more tricky to induce driver mistakes. So kudos to the track layout designer team as it's a big success.

Well it was decided by FIA.  They can make the call to finish under SC because not all lapped cars were allowed to passed, and they are supposed to go back to the end of the line.  By the time that is done, race is over.

Anyhow, I think Mercedes has a chance to fight it in court.  Read somewhere that they hired a famous lawyer to do that.

More pop corns needed over the winter break.  By the time we come back for next season, LH may be 8 WDC  biggrin.gif
*
I doubt it cuz it will bring the sport into disrepute. Despite Masi's fiasco in handling it, his message to Toto that they want racing says it all and that should be the true spirit of the sport, let them settle with racing on track.

Christian Horner :- Height=1.73m, Weight=68kg, Age=47
Toto Wolff :- Height: 1.96m, Weight=75kg, Age=49 ... sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger (coz both Austrian)

For sure, the 'Terminator' will win  laugh.gif .  With the way he threw his Bose headphones, hard for 'SpicyGingerman' to withstand it.

(fyi, I'm happy that MV and RB won WDC, altho ok also if LH won his 8th WDC, his & Merc fightback during last few GPs has to be respected; altho latter tracks do suit them more ... but somehow, MV finishing 1st & 2nd in all 2021 races he didn't DNF, except Hungary (9th, hit by Lando who was hit by Valtteri), felt he deserved the WDC title this season slightly more than LH)
From a tweet:-  biggrin.gif
[attachmentid=11058246]
But but RB sacrificed SP many times for MV's WDC wor ... which admittedly is more glamorous title than WCC title ... maybe RB got enuf sponsors to offset the $20million(?) prize difference.
Plus RB need to placate MV so that he won't consider other teams offer ... (really he'll stick with RB for 10 or 15 more years?? we'll see ...  rolleyes.gif )
*
Yes I too feel MV despite his dirty moves still deserves the title because of Baku, Silverstone, and Hungary. If not for those, he would have wrapped up the title maybe 3 races ago. It's LH who was lucky to still had the chance almost stealing the title.

SP can be forgiven due to this being his first season adapting to new car and team. There were several races where he was just nowhere, hence costing RB the constructor points.

SP done very well compared to VB imo. He held lewis fairly for several turns...VB on the other hands...

Except when he play pinball and took out both RB

SP is surely superior than the weak VB during combat but VB has much better and consistent raw performance to keep scoring big team points.

It's either Lewis or Max. There's not even a worthy 3rd choice even if you want to disqualified both and look for consolation.

Wait,...

Maybe Masi...
*
This lost is also similar to his lost to NR in 2016 whereby he made some uncharacteristic mistakes or dips in performance in the first half then to step up in the 2nd half only to be undone by misfortunes (engine blow in 2016 Sepang, and now crash by NL).
