RM100 = No drilling and cutting off the GPU heatsink.
RM180 = Involves drilling the case and cutting off the GPU heatsink (means more work and time spend).

Guys, my operation using both "drilling" and "without-drill" method has been successful. Please add 1 Xbox360 to the list. Fixed by me, Virgil biggrin.gif

Why i said both method, because the GPU i used the drilling method while the without drill i used it on the CPU heatsink. Both method works fine and i prefer the "without drill" method. More clean and hassle-free.

If you guys need any tips on the method or have questions on any of the parts needed, feel free to PM me or if you want me to fix it, i will be glad to help!

Edited: Somebody has asked me about the difficulty of the operation. So i think this would be useful for those who wanna try fixing it own their own.

The whole operation is actually very easy. You have the right tools, then you are ready to go. The most troublesome part would obviously be drilling the heatsinks and the core holding the motherboard. But if you use the non-drill method (from now on i called it Lawdawg's method), then it would be as easy as ABC. I cant really remember which part of the Lawdawg's method is difficult, seriously. Maybe removing the outer case is hard tongue.gif

so now the 3 rod is already solve.. lol.. so once its fix would the problem come again... i know this still new but just a prediction esp from those who actually do the job... since u guys actually do the fix.. do you think this problem will occur again? one more thing if a newly bought xb360, let say the owner decide to do this fix even if they still not encountering the problem, will this save them from 3rod?

I find it pointless to fix a new 360 which is still under warranty. Wouldnt it be better to send it warranty instead and get a refurbished one? Well this only apply to original consoles...

Maybe just maybe by removing the clamps early, it will prevent from causing stress to both the GPU and CPU chip.. so technically it will prevent 3ROD.. but then.. 3ROD is still Unknown Error and thus other problem may surface from it other than the clamps.

As requested here are the pictures of the parts that i gotten in order to do the whole process..

A smaller machine screw (4.8mm, 4mm) can be used to replace the 5mm Machine Screw if you are using the RBJTech (drilling) method. Lawdawgs method will need you to use 5mm x 10mm diameter screw (precise length and width).
All the above parts can be obtained from your nearest hardware store.
Total Cost: RM5 Maximum.

I am sure all of you know what this is, thermal compoound remover (comes with 2 bottles) and the Arctic 5 Silver. Get it from your nearest IT store biggrin.gif If you guys have any alcohol, that will just do fine.
Cost: RM25 for Arctic 5 Silver and another RM25 for the thermal remover.
