QUOTE
An Air Force F-16C fighter jet crashed on Tuesday at the airport in Lake Havasu, Arizona, while attempting land.

The pilot was able to eject and is in good condition, the Air Force said.

"An F-16C assigned to the 56th Fighter Wing diverted and attempted to land at Lake Havasu City Municipal Airport, Lake Havasu City, Arizona, at approximately 10:35 a.m. today during a routine training flight," read a statement from Luke Air Force Base.

The base is located 15 miles south of Phoenix.

"During landing the aircraft departed the prepared surface and the pilot ejected from the aircraft," the statement continued. "The pilot is in good condition and is being transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center."

"First responders are on site and there is no immediate danger to the public," the statement added.

Earlier, Terrie Has, of the Lake Havasu City Fire Department, had told ABC affiliate KNXV that a military plane had crashed at the airport and that the pilot was ambulatory after ejecting from the aircraft.

India withdraws from FGFA project, leaving Russia to go it alone

Rahul Bedi, New Delhi and Reuben F Johnson, Kuala Lumpur - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly
20 April 2018

Key Points

* India has pulled out of its 11-year collaborative programme with Russia to build a Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft
* The decision has ramifications for both the IAF and the Russian aerospace industry

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has shelved its 11-year old collaborative Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) programme with Russia following enduring differences over its developmental cost and technological capabilities.

Senior Indian officials, including National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra, recently informed a visiting Russian ministerial delegation that India was withdrawing from the programme, official sources told Jane’s on 20 April.

The Indian officials are believed to have stated that the IAF could, at a later date, ‘revisit’ the FGFA project or alternatively acquire the fully developed platform once it had been inducted into the Russian Air Force, but did not elaborate.

Industry officials said the FGFA project, in which India’s state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) was the lead developmental agency, also did not feature in talks during Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s visit to Moscow in early April.

“The FGFA project had become an instance of too little, too late,” said military analyst and retired air marshal V K Bhatia. To pursue it any longer would not have served the IAF interests in any way as it struggles to make up fast-depleting fighter numbers, he added.

The IAF believes that the Sukhoi Su-57 (T-50 PAK-FA) fighter, which India’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) designated the Perspective Multi-Role Fighter, does not meet its requirements for stealth, combat avionics, radars and sensors. Seven FGFA prototypes are currently undergoing flight-testing in Russia, but for now there is no indication as to when the platform is likely to enter series production.

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) are conducting Exercise Eagle Indopura, from 19 to 27 April in Singapore and Surabaya, Indonesia. RSN Fleet Commander Colonel Edwin Leong officiated the opening ceremony at RSS Singapura - Changi Naval Base on 19 April with TNI AL's Commander Sea Combat Task Force, Eastern Fleet Command First Admiral Rachmad Jayadi in attendance. The bilateral exercise aims to enhance the interoperability and professionalism of both navies through anti-surface and anti-air warfare serials, as well as maritime security serials.

For the first time since inception, this year's exercise will feature a counter-terrorism serial in the maritime environment between the RSN’s Maritime Security Task Force (MSTF) and the TNI AL's Western Fleet Sea Security Group, GUSKAMLABAR (GKBA). Both navies exercised information sharing and sense-making to enhance maritime awareness, and joint operational planning to provide effective responses for regional maritime security contingencies. During the serial, both headquarters collaborated effectively to deploy naval assets to disrupt a simulated terror attack threatening commercial shipping transiting through the Singapore Strait.

This year, the RSN participated with a Formidable-class Frigate RSS Formidable, a Victory-class Missile Corvette RSS Valour, and for the first time, an Independence-class Littoral Mission Vessel RSS Independence. The TNI AL participated with two Diponegoro-class Frigates KRI Diponegoro (embarked with BO-105 helicopter) and KRI Sultan Iskandar Muda, a Kondor-class Patrol Craft KRI Pulau Rusa and Quick Reaction Force teams from GKBA, and a CN-235 Maritime Patrol Aircraft.

Held since 1974, Exercise Eagle Indopura is the Singapore Armed Forces' longest-running bilateral exercise with a foreign military. The exercise underscores the close and long-standing defence relationship between Singapore and Indonesia. The RSN and TNI AL conduct regular professional exchanges, exercises and port calls, and also collaborate through the multilateral Malacca Straits Patrol and other activities such as socio-civic programmes. These regular interactions have enhanced the close ties and mutual understanding between the personnel of both navies.

Indonesia akui pembuatan jet tempur KFX/IFX tertunda

Indonesia receives second DSME-built submarine KRI Ardadedali

April 25, 2018

The Indonesian Navy officially received its second Nagapasa-class submarine, KRI Ardadedali, from South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) in a ceremony on April 25.

KRI Ardadedali (404) is the second of overall three submarines Indonesia is building in cooperation with South Korea’s DSME under a US$1,1 billion contract signed in 2011.

Following the delivery and commissioning ceremony, Ardadedali and her crew departed DSME’s shipyard in Okpo, Geoje and are expected to arrive in Surabaya after a two-week journey.

The lead submarine in the class, KRI Nagapasa, arrived in Indonesia on August 28, 2017, after entering service on August 2 in a delivery and commissioning ceremony in South Korea.

While the first two units were built in South Korea, the final submarine in the class will be assembled by the Indonesian state-owned shipbuilder PT PAL in Surabaya, Indonesia, under a technology transfer program.

Indonesia already operates two smaller Type 209 submarines, Type 209/1300 KRI Cakra and KRI Nanggala, built by German Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft over 30 years ago. DSME is also contracted for work on the upgrades of Cakra-class submarines which will include a modernized periscope mast, hull works and new combat management systems (CMS).

S'pore and US armies conduct joint exercise

user posted image

More than 280 military personnel from Singapore and the United States took part in Exercise Lightning Strike at the Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington from April 16 to 24. As part of the annual exercise, both sides trained together to strengthen interoperability in urban operations.

"The exercise culminated with an integrated battalion assault on an urban objective, with soldiers conducting Close Quarter Battle utilising specialised urban operations equipment," said the Ministry of Defence in a statement yesterday.

The Singaporeans taking part were from the 2nd Battalion of the Singapore Infantry Regiment, while their counterparts were from the 4-23 Infantry Battalion of the US Army.

"These interactions have enhanced the professionalism, personal rapport and interoperability between both armed forces, as well as reaffirmed the excellent and longstanding defence relations between Singapore and the US."

PAK-FA (Perspektivny Aviatsionny Kompleks Frontovoy Aviatsii, literally "Prospective Aviation Complex of Frontline Aviation) is the RuAF program for a 5th gen stealth fighter, in which the Su-57 is the result of the program. Sukhoi's own internal designation for the Su-57 is the T-50.

FGFA (Fifth Gen Fighter Aircraft) is the Su-57 version optimized for the Indian Air Force and was supposed to be jointly built by HAL. It is designed only as a two-seater fighter and is supposed to use Indian-made missiles and bombs.

To be fair, the JF-17 is a modern cheap, decent mid-range fighter, but admittedly pretty basic and low-tech compared to the latest fighter planes. But looks like it's doing its job just fine. The Pakistan Air Force already has more than 100 of those operating now.

Six PAF fighter Squadrons receive their JF-17 fighters

Indian Air Force meanwhile has gambled big on 5th gen and lost big. laugh.gif

Meh. Lets see how many of them will remain operational. Pakistani-built Chinese-copied Russian engines... nuff said.

I'd bet 24 IAF Rafales can bungkus all those JF-17s.

Indonesia to focus on building its own submarines: minister

Reporter: Yashinta Difa Pramudyani  5 hours ago

Okpo, South Korea (ANTARA News) - After the second South Korean-made submarine being delivered to Indonesia, Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu emphasized that the government will focus on building its own submarines.

The second submarine named KRI Ardadedali-404 was sent to Indonesia, with a delivery ceremony at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), Okpo, South Korea, on Wednesday, following the arrival of the first submarine named KRI Nagapasa-403 in August 2017, and another submarine that is still being assembled in PT PAL Indonesia, Surabaya.

"We will be finishing this one (currently being assembled in Surabaya). Our manpower is trying to build the fifth and sixth submarines on their own," the minister stated.

Under a cooperation agreement between the Indonesian Military and DSME, the joint project of assembling the submarine has been carried out by state-owned shipbuilder PT PAL through a transfer of technology.

The assembling of the KRI Alugoro-405 is expected to be completed in the next few months.

After purchasing three submarines from South Korea, Indonesia still needs to establish two or three other international partnerships before being able to build its own submarines, according to Ryacudu.

In the 1960s, Indonesia had 12 submarines, but the number was reduced to only two before purchasing three submarines from South Korea.

The country currently has five submarines and will continue to increase the number until it reaches at least 12 submarines.

"(The number) will be increased. We will continuously learn to build advanced submarines based on this cooperation (with South Korea)," Ryacudu added.

The Malaysian Army’s (Tentera Darat Malaysia, TD) transformation into a conventional-warfare force is almost complete in structural terms, and is set to receive new 105LG1 artillery systems from Nexter (France).

In this video we are covering:
» Malaysian Army modernization plan
» Sapura offering advanced electronic systems to MAF
» Deftech's range of AV8 8x8 wheeled armored vehicles
» Cendana new light special operations forces vehicles

*why is the unit patches so cartoonish...
