Ken,

Haha...actually i am being picky for the color more..but wanna explore cheaper ones which still perform resonably well..

Azam,

The cheaper Jagwires u mentioned, are those in plastic packaging in a roll, instead of some costly ones in a box form? I survey shops and most i see are jagwires in box and very pricy.

i buy loose one.my local shop measure how long i want, then cut it for me. some shop do carry big box jagwire as they sell by loose. no other accessories included. the drawback is only got black color and no color option to choose 😅

another cheaper solution is the plastic pakage. but still u need two set to accomodate the measurement of fd and rd on folding bike. the  plasticbundle came with 2m shifter cable, 2m brake cable and some small parts.

the box are premium one and folding bike cant buy that one either coz the same length problem  (fd and rd). the box bundle also came with 2m shifter cable, 2m brake cable and some small parts.

for both plastic and  box package, the brake housing no problem coz the short routing of front and rear brake.

normal bike got internal cable routing and no fold parts. so the wire are kept in fix length. folding bike need extra long coz the foldable parts.

if u insist to buy either plastic or box package, u need to buy 2 sets of it and u would have extra brake housing cable.
*
Mine is only rd..maybe can get away with just one pack. Thx for the detail explanation.

never try ali express. use google translate for buying from taobao. u tought i know mandarin and im malay?nowdays google is your friend maaa..

i will definetely pick shimano crank over the litepro, or at least fsa. like ken said before, litepro is still cap ayam. resale value are sucks!only foldie owners know litepro brand..

if i were u, i'll find old shimano crank. the 5 arms one, and find 130bcd. u can later add on litepro chainring if u wanna go for it. at least, its a good investment over litepro
the rt is lighter than onka, but the rolling smoothness, onka wins. i had onka and still keeping it. i had bought many rt wheelset and experience using it for a while.rt is 24mm and onka is 30mm profile.

30mm is good for all rounder rim, either climbing or flat road.. dont go for high profile like me,.. i buy the highprofile wheelset coz it looks nice.. aero spoke does help u in rolling and wind resistance.
*
Finally gotten my litepro crankset...looks wise thumbs up, weight plus bb, almost 0.5kg lighter overall compared to all needed stuff for my old square taper cranksset. However, drive train got noisier when pedalling harder..Hopefully its just new chainring not wear in yet with existing old chain.

Sorry, this is 2018. No such thing as chainring not worn in… it is either poor chainring quality or poor tuning.
*
Had a chat with bike mechanic bout this issue, he says two possibilities :

1) Chainring doesnt look as rigid due to very thin and light..higher pedal load may flex it and some chain rub noise. Sounds plausible to me, but certainly doesnt feel in buffiness like the shimano road cranks.
He reason u don't see Shimanos making this kinda light and thin cranks, if it works well..it would have been done and marketted....hmm.

2) My back hub is actually busted, and the cogs actually sway in motion when the wheel spins. Didnt aware that cogs could actually goyang around..likely the cup cone bearings is unseated, thus imbalance.

Gonna do a wheelset change this weekend, and hope the whirring sound is due to my back hubs. If not, will be pulling hairs again.

After the short period of a few years owning a foldie..sometimes i wonder if i should just ditch it, as there seem so many maintenance and problematic issues arised off and on.
Frame creaking, handlepost getting loose, drivetrain weirdness ...sigh...starting to wear me off.

Owning a MTB has been rocksolid without facing much issues.

But , i like riding and owning a foldie...hahaha....hence soldier on..

rule of thumb a folding bike must be of good quality otherwise it is a hassle owning them if you do not know how to maintain it. I got brompton it seems holding up well with minimal maintenance, but my Fnhon after a ride in rain need to clean and lube all the joints otherwise will have sound.
*
And i had thoughts of possibility getting a tern verge copy of fnhon frame , ..haha.. probably should scrap the idea.

My is a lowly dahon vitesse, and i thought these should be some decent...

Thx bro...
Ya,looking for frame only...
Thinking to slap a latest 105 groupset in it...
Maybe a 406 wheelset, cause feel like d 451 on my java pro3 is kinda limited for d route...
Btw,where to get d Fnhon Tornado Frame for Cheap?
*
Hi Str33tboy,

Saw Sifu Azam mentioned bout me gotten the frame.
It's also partly due to Azam posted the Fnhon Tornado that he setup earlier that got me interested as well.

Yeah, its a great looking frame..love the Verge looks, and as i can't afford a Verge, this is the closest i can get to it.
So far has been using it like maybe 3 weeks ..and i dont have any issues with it like creaks, flexy or poor fold mechanism.
I ride almost everyday on it on short distance (total +/-200km so far) ..so i have a bit of run time on it to comment a little.

Compared to my Dahon Vitesse, i felt its more agile, feels lighter on foot and definitely stiffer. Can't say if that is actually better but different. Geometry is a bit different.

I also inspected the the frame and its folding clasp, and i can say that i like the construction of the frame and feels up there with my Dahon..based on my limited experience. I agree with what Azam said about the good quality of the frame.
Only time will tell if it holds up well, but even Dahons still faced creaks issue and need tuning once a while.

I was tinkering with 451 wheelset idea for future, and ur thinking the other swithing to 406..haha.

You can PM me anytime if u wanna know more and will gladly help. I also gain knowledge from the sifus here.
I bought the frame from a FB seller, and i can direct you to him if ur interested in Fnhon Tornado or Crius Velocity.

Also, Azam's recommendation on getting the cheaper Verge variant sounds good too, if u really want a Tern name on it.

Looks very close to Tornado frame..maybe made by the same factory.

Check out this site : The guy is currently building this frame set

ic,should be buying fnhon tornado for me next setup den...
thinking of getting single crankset around 46T...
as most of d time i am using my rear gear change, very less on d front...
Any cons for that? Or really no big deal for d front...
Btw,using 11-30T at d back...
Any 9/10 - 32/34T cassette in d market?
For d brake part, can i use for d back hydraulic disc only?
Coz d front brake also not in use most of d time,or brake is better to install both side?
*
Not a good idea to install below 53T chainring for foldie 20inch..U will max out or lack of high speed gear real quick..especially coming down a slope. I think minimal also at least 52T la...unless u always riding relek relek only.

There is disk brake version of Tornado if u wanna run disk brake set up...and it looks cooler to me actually.
U still need the front brakes for safety, back brake wont save u in emergency situation. Dont omit that.

wah..What magic special wax u guys using?
Im trying the Adreno wax and its works good so far..only not so cost effective for price/ml per bottle.

Keen to try out the SquirtLube soon..price /ml seems cheap compared to other lubes.

Speaking of the Heart rate sensor thingy...im not into this stuff yet, and have not much idea what the purpose of it for cycling. RB frens use them, just didnt thought foldie kakis use them too.
To our heart rate training zone and not to overblown fuse?

Xds k3 seems good on the paper.

I was at Rodalink klang last Saturday, and there is a Link b7 (Deep Red) is nice. Likely can be had for rm1400-1500.

The camp thunderbolt, from pictures it looks nice..but when i saw the actual bike and wasn't too impressed as compared to photos.
Frame build doesnt look good and it is very heavy, but u get the 2x chainring set up, and disk brakes if that matters to u. Moreover, when and if ur develop serious interest later on, likely u will dump those components.

I like the Link visually better than the Vybe, and K3 looks very unique to me. The red Link looks real hot !!
For the almost same amount of money within ur budget, the dahon or Tern entry models will be a better brand/frame to buy, if u happen to develop more interest into cycling, and do some upgrades from there.

But if you only intend to buy one and ride, and later move on to higher end bikes...then buy any which u feel good and right to ur budget.

i found this cateye go 3 in 1 package at usjcycle website..good for a start..

any recommended brand for tubes? yesterday the shop guy told me i can upgrade the tyre to bigger size if i want for around RM30..not sure what brand it is..the skinny type tyre looks unstable for big guy like me hahaa..
*
For that Cateye front light, if u intend to use it as blinker, then boleh la, but not worth the money for that. If ur intend as night light to light up ur path, forget about it..its totally useless for that..its crap as that is my first light too.
I would say for that red back blinker too. Coz both runs on AAA batteries..u will change batteries a lot..

Cheap rechargeable blinkers from MR DIY..like RM10-15, will do a much better job. As for the front light, u will need to spend a bit more ..like those with 300 lumens ( RM150+/-) rechargeable ones. Cateye, Lezyne, Moon etc ..this is suggested if u intend to ride night. You would not regret getting a better front light, it will serve you well, as blinker, bike light, and best of all, as torchlight during black out. And wont get obsolete.

In short, for budget..Back blinkers ..Mr DIY will do, Front Light..don't buy models from Mr DIY, or Decathlon.

And yeah, u can get lots of cheaper bike stuff from Decathlon too.

Skinny tires are for people who has steel butt.
For fat old ass of mine, I prefer wider than 1-1/8".
451 tires, widest available off the shelves is 1-3/8" There are only 2 types of 20x1-3/8, one is Maxxis and the other is the super value RM45/pc Kanda Kwick Roller Sport. Which I use exclusively.

Been toying with the idea to change my 451 rim to 406 because if I use 2.2" wide tires with 406 rim, the outside diameter of the tire will be slightly larger than as 451 with 1-3/8" tires.

Contrary to old marketing ploy, Fatter tires are suppose to be faster rolling~ but that is another topic all together.

406 tire more choices to choose~ that is a very good thing.
*
Im running 451 with skinny ass 1 3/8 tires now, previously 406 with 2.0 Apples, and off the memory, i still think 451 combo diameter definitely is still larger. But Big Apples really sized up the diameter of 406, thats for sure. Unless ur 2.2 tires are special homebrew and super tall...haha...

According to what i read, and have experience, fatter tires theoratically rolls quicker, only if all things being equal, like same pressure, and same weight, but in actual, probably it wont be all things equal.
Like u said, a separate topic altogether.

How's those Kwick Roller by the way..im scouting too, and so far, Maxxis Torch, DTH and some nameless Innova for 1 3/8" locally.

anyone got use child seat/carrier on folding bike? which one u use?
*
Ahpingko, and others who wish to carry kids on foldie.

Here's what i can comment on using a foldie for carrying kids, based on my experience.

1) Frame mounting model
Most likely u can't use a frame mount type for foldie, if urs is a 20inch foldie. I have seen pictures of ppl used it, mount the bracket on the Seat post, but im very wary of that method...unless ur seat post is damn
strong one, and ur kid is still very light. And its highy instable due to high centre of gravity on a small foldie. Bike can tilt over if ur not careful.

2) Rear Carrier mounting model
Locks on ur rear carrier, more stable due to low height. Problem is, harder to find a good one. Polisport has those but kinda rare these days.
Problem is : Std Rear rack may be too low..Your feet may whack the leg of the seat when ur cycle. Very uncomfy to compensate. Unless ur rack is those touring kind with elevated rack
Weight issue.. Seat may take 22 kg, but likely the rear rack will not..as its only rated 10kg and rest on a few screws. Worakable if kids is still lightweight.

3) Front mounting resting on Body tube..no experience on that, but some forumers here might have use them and can advise u.

4) In summary, get a bigger bike, like a cheap mtb will suffice, or a touring bike for child carrying. Its much more stable and safer.

Now i carry using my mtb using a frame mounting model. Its just better and safer this way.

I googled and it seemed that it might be due to the saddle or even its positioning (inclination angle)....and if n

Any advice on this?

Hahaha..as for my case, its numb dick for me, when i first started wearing those tight death grip lycras....

I would suggest looking at those saddles with groove opening in the middle...or ur saddle maybe tilting too backwards.

you are certainly right. now using stock 1x8s shimano claris (52t, 11-32t) and working on my "leg set".
Not really the best ride but definitely more than OK i will say. I am actually still riding alone and never join any group yet because i do not think i am qualify right now. I do not know my leg's capability but i am sure that i am not going to over-stress my leg set. What i can do is to train as fit as i can.
Upgrade/modification/customize of bike is a arguably long stories with many excuses and reasons. I will say i need my bike to have more versatile for every conditions/circumstances. Of course it does look great and rider got face too.
Pak G and Mak YT are both answered my doubt but i also need to join the forum as well. ask questions of course is much easier to blend in am i right?
*
Hi Canon,

Im the guy you talked to and pointed u to the Verge...we meet again in forum..haha.

Lots of sifus here can advise and guide you on the upgrades..no worries.
For the money, u definitely made a great buy. As u are new into foldies, you probably dont realise yet how good ride the Verge is, until u start riding most within the price bracket +/- that u paid for.

And of course the brand and model does matters..just like everything else in life..just how much u place the importance in them, and every different things we place different priorities.

Getting the bike is one, now upgrading and modifications will be a new journey..the expectations and needs will grow as you gets better, and peer pressure..enjoy...

if u like disc brake, then take it.
i am no fan of disc brake. heavy also, the simplicity of vbrake/caliper are more convinient for me.

gearing is a 2nd choice for me. u can put any groupset later but a good frame is the best factor. u dont want to feel any wobble or silly sound on ur frame esp the hinge and clamp right?

if u cant find Mu, try scouting for Vigor. its a good predecessor of vector frame now know as verge.
the vector is design by joshua hon when working with dahon. after few conflict with his father, he open up tern and mod his vector design to verge.

its a good frame and sexy.

There is a very new looking used Silver Vigor D9 at sale now in BBS at RM1600 now..not sure if still there...better be quick.

Just make a jump from RM1k budget to this. I seriously think this is a good buy. I would have jump at it if it was two moths ago...haha

Dear sifu,
need some advises. My Tern N8 had chain dropped recently. Precisely 2 times within a short distance. Chain dropped at front crank and towards outside when i use the smallest cog.
Current setup:
R7000 crankset without FD
Shimano Claris 9 speeds at the back
FYI, my ride has modded the wheelset as well
*
Canon,

Since ur running the 105 crankset, as single chainring..u will need the some sort of chain guide. Normally FD act as one, but u do not have.
Two choices u have:

1) Use a Narrow wide chain ring...
2) Use the Tern Chain Guide..can easily purchase in BBS or Rodalink shop. I have use it with great results before.

Obviously option 2 is the way to go, since u will wanna use ur 105 chainring as well.

Small issue, easily rectifiable.
