i pretty much decided on a 305 wheelset, this will be my 6th bike. I have already got a tern 406 hence a 349 would not differ much in terms of experiences.
my priority is lightweight and portability. I just got back from city cycling in paris, berlin and budapest. the worse thing about all these cycling is that the rental bike is min 20kg with 3 gears, so i figure even with a smallish 16" i can be par or the same with those bike. |

yes, all of them got their own standards..make it very confusing. and those zero knowledge shopkeepers don't help either.
for us is passion, for them is just another gig to get 2 meals on the table. |

Brompton is a cult.... and at that price even if you can cycle around leaving it lock outdoor will be a huge risk.
My folding bikes are never more than 2k, Tern is used, dahon is not highest end model, upcoming Fnhon below 1.5k, i can take the risk..hahhahaha QUOTE(etigge @ Nov 1 2017, 02:30 PM) A Brompton is not suitable for touring although there are exceptions where some do take it for touring. Parts are hyper expensive and this is the first objection when it comes to suitability for tourers. Secondly, you can't find the parts easily. Bromptons are more for city commuting. You know, the last mile connection. |

i ordered one with 53t front 11t-25t behind. see enough first or not...
got 6 bike cycle also not very keng...hobbby collect cheap bikes..hahaha QUOTE(KenC @ Nov 1 2017, 06:12 PM) You planned to change your chainring and Cassatte? Since you have 6 bikes, I pressumed your legs are not wimpy, the drive train combo will be way too low for you. You will still need another ~100 for the pedals, ~300 for the cheapest double chainring Crankset + shifter + front derailleur, and optional 11-28t 9 speed cassette. Still just under your 2k limit. |

Very correct, butt sure itchy somehow.
QUOTE(KenC @ Nov 1 2017, 06:57 PM) However hard I try, buying used parts, lowest grade parts, used bike, ori-cina parts… one still ended up spending around 1.2k on both my bike. And I am sure there will be more capital expenditure sooner or later… It's true you can adapt any bike to you preference, its also true that we human are flexible enough to adapt to most bike. Don't worry about future upgrade, you WILL modify your bike, its inevidable. Period. Cheap bike expensive bike or opulent bike, it's all up to your objectives. Be it sport instrument, exercise machine, show casing your exquisite taste, flashing your wealth… up to you la. There are no top limit to price tag, 30k bike can be had, 24k wheelset got sell also… My point is, earlier you buy a bike, earlier you start exercising (or whatever that you had in mind). Earlier you start on the job training… just buy the bike you don't mind throwing away. It will be painless. *PS, you can always put the blame on cheaper bike… a huge bonus! As for me, I am a hoarder, I don't sell my bike… hence, I always blame my bike even when I don't believe a word I say |

I cycle almost weekly to dragonback near bukit ramlee there.
i share with you my experience, first started on road bike, front 34t behind 28t, cannot make it up, need to stop a few times before can climb up. Thereafter i change the to rear 34t front remain 34t, can make it already but also tiring, there i train for more than 1 year slowly i can climb with 34t front and behind 26t. Now I can go even lower than 26t but using 26t is effortless. I don't have powerful legs nor light bike, my khs cheapest roadbike alone weight 10kg. the thing is it takes time to train up your leg, Last shah alam endurance ride, i see a lot of cervelo, sworks, bla bla all push up the same hill. So no shortcut, one hill at a time, slowly you will conquer it all... QUOTE(kww @ Nov 1 2017, 07:53 PM) |

i am not a cadence guy, i use brute force or very leisure pace. hence i can never follow peleton. when i see one i chase them like a mad dog chasing human. after a while no energy i will just santai ride.
maybe in future i will try to polish my cycling with cadence..but for now..mad dog style. |
