I saw this post and message you but seems there's no reply from you. Maybe you don't read messages......... I have stopped posting in the forum but I will make this exception. My ride for Saturday and Sunday is sent to you via the 'PM' already. Feel free to join us.

Happy cycling.  thumbup.gif

Hi sifu etigge,

I read some of your old posts, you did an upgrade of you Dahon Eco C7 to 8 speeds many years ago. Can the Tern Link C7 do the same upgrade without changing the rims? Just change the shifters, freehub and RD.

Thanks in advance!

"I was browsing around a local bike shop near my place and I came across this shop which stock Louis Garnaeu, Doppelganger, Oscar and also Dahons. I got another Dahon Eco C7 for my family (I decided to keep using foldies now). Those looking for Eco C7, there are still 2 units left ( black and red, white taken by me) rclxms.gif Also there's another Speed P8 there. He's willing to change to 8 speed for me and he is charging RM80 for shifters, RM50 for 8 speed freehub and another RM75 for Acera RD. So it should be called Eco C8 now! laugh.gif

The shop is located on the road to Carrefour Taman Tun Hussein Onn, from the Saga Highway just before the toll, turn right and on the left. So, you need to do a U-turn. Kimbell Jaya, only one shop there. Also easy to negotiate, nice guy. William, I think."

it should be at the right. Opposite Petron. Near to the entrance of Bandar Tun Hussein Onn MRT station.

i stay nearby there too. Maybe can have time to ride together? i usually ride around 6pm during weekdays.

Thanks for sharing the location.

I wish we can ride together, but I stay in PJ and I work late most of the days... and only free to ride around taman area in the weekend sad.gif

Sifu etigge PM me and gives valuable advises on the upgrade thumbsup.gif

The black Java X3 looks good with thick tyre, it must be the most comfort ride of all the 14" bike you have smile.gif

Mine 14" bike's tyre is only 1.5 " wide, I feel the ride a bit "hard".

I am obsessed with lightweight, this is about 7.0kg, commonly known as 412. i used this bike when i am overseas fits into smalll luggage without dismantling. if u cycle at 60rpm cadence you can easily get 20kmh.

It is a 14" FD with single speed (11T) or inner multi-speed gear? 7kg is very light thumbsup.gif

My cheap 14" FD single speed (13T) is a bit slow, sometime felt like "hamster on a wheel" and heavy...9 to 10+/-kg biggrin.gif

14" with 13t rear cog is a big no no. unless u can put 60t front otherwise the ride will be like free wheeling all the time.
mine is a single speed with combo of 45t/9t just nice as on 60rpm i can get around 20kmh.
*
No choice... no $ for better spec bike, I think it costs less than a quarter of yours bike blush.gif

btw, if I am not wrong the front is 48T and the rear is 12T (mistaken it was 13T)

Hi all,

Any ideal to fix the stripped bolt hole at the handlebar? There are two allen nuts, one of it cannot be tightened properly.

Can I uses the "Xtraseal steel epoxy" to fill the bolt hole and fasten with the allen nut? http://www.xtraseal.com/product.php?cid=5

Or just uses "Selleys Super glue" and fasten the allen nut?

Saw some discussions in Ver. 5 post #2240: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3787639/+2220

Please advise, thanks in advance!

Thanks for the advise.

Btw, are the folding bikes having standard handlepost size? Just plug & play replacement?

bro azam, thanks for your input. as of now, im comparing, java pro 4 (42*52T) vs xds k1 (crank hollow 34-50T) vs camp c9 (crank hollow 52-42T)..
or did i compare wrongly the product category? uhuks...

how does this crank specs affect us as rider? the initial investment is to trigger the momentum..huhu..
just bought tern link C7 2nd hand for my wife and love the smoothness when it is fold..
*
My wife likes the Tern C7 too smile.gif

QUOTE(azamunekurone @ Aug 12 2019, 06:19 PM)
for 406 wheels, the 50t wont get u good top speed. go for at least 52t. while the 34t is much² more easier on hill, its all depends on ur leg and what casette ur using. for me, how much ur going uphill rahter than flat?

52/42 is 130bcd, while 50/34 is 110bcd. if ur planning on upgrade ur chainring 130bcd will give u alot of choices.

the riding feel on tern are rather different than java, xds or camp.u may not noticed now, but later on u can feel the riding different. the tern link might come with 7speed, and the gearing may not enough to conquer hills, thats why i said u need to spent more to get a good gearing combo or at least better setup than the xds, java or camp
*
Just wondering, it is cheaper to buy a brand new bike (8, 9, 16 speed or more) and transfer the parts onto the old bike (Tern or Dahon with 6 or 7 speed), then sell off the new bike half of the price?
For example:
https://bicyclebuysell.com/item/480875/new-...kg-shimano-hubs
https://bicyclebuysell.com/item/491235/camp...arrier-mudguard

Sifu azamunekurone, does it means same number of T for the crankset can swap to each other? For example the Tern C7 has 52T (130bcd?), it can swap with the 52/42T 130bcd, but cannot swap with 50/34T 110bcd? Thanks in advance!

there are not that fast lah... pace around 30kmph i can follow, after that jalan dulu i will arrived late lor laugh.gif there is no podium to chase
hahaha..thats the point..
i am no sifu lah. mostly i google all the fact and paste it here. i only know some good keyword to google it better  rclxm9.gif

1stly,
u need to know some basic knowledge about tern/dahon/fnhon.
mostly those 3 brands used a bit wierd type of wheelset. not like an alien thing, but comparing other than this brand, the front hub diameter is 74mm for rimbrake. where else, normal hub one is 100mm same like roadbike, mtb. rear hub mostly same all brand, commonly used 130mm for rimbrake and 135mm for disc brake. rear can kawtim, 5mm easy to adjust. problem will occur with 74mm. there is adapter to convert 74mm to 100mm. matters with dahon/tern/fnhon, their front fork is 74mm, and cant fit 100mm hub. u can "kangkang" the fork with special tools, but not all shop willing to do that.

2ndly
ur link c7 wheelset is freewheel and not freehub. means need to change to freehub wheelset to accomodate casette 8-11speed. so either u change only the hub or buying the new wheelset will solve the problem. i know there is option special freewheel cogs until 9s, but finding it very hard also.. so ditch the idea and stick to freehub as its easy to get parts.

3rdly,
number of T means how many tooth do you have. mostly 5 bolts crank in rb world came with either 130bcd or 110bcd. there is 144bcd, but commonly used by track bike/kirin/velodrom/fixie. dont fint bcd 144, also hard to find replacement chainring. if ur tern c7 got bolt to change the chainring that its easy.
ok, to get it clear, 110bcd got 2 type of crank. that is 4 bolt system and 5 bolt system.as for summary i listed below
- 5 bolt system 110bcd : available chainring 34t, 36t, 38t,50t, 52t
- 5 bolt system 130bdc : available chainring 39t, 42t, 44t, 46t, 52t, 53t, 54t, 55t, 56t, 568t, 60t, 62t
- 4 bolt system 110bcd : available chainring 34t, 36t, 38t,39t, 50t, 52t, 53t
please note that 110bcd 52t, is not the same like 130bcd 52t even though both same teeth with 5 bolt system.
there is some weird design of bcd chanring. i had expirience once with deca crankset and fys crankset. both bcd 130 but both chainring cant swap

and last but not least, u will get better spec if u buy separately upgrade parts than buying new bike and swap component. this is because some oem part (original equip with the bike) are not that good. why not try to scout for used part for better saving?

feel dizzy?? rclxub.gif digest it slowly ya bro sweat.gif
*
Thanks for the advise! I forgot about the tern/dahon front wheel hub diameter is 74mm... sifu etigge mentioned it to me before blush.gif

The tern C7 crank comes without any bolts, how to check if it is 110 or 130 bcd hmm.gif

Hi,

I have an old folding bike, XDS AFB360, 20" 8x2 speed, changing gear from 1>2>3>4>5>6>7>8 is smooth, but from gear 8>7>6>5>4>3>2>1, 8>7 is not smooth and sometime cannot be shifted. Could it be the rear derailleur or 'teeth' problem?

By the way, how can I check if my bike is having cassette or freewheel? Thinking of changing it.

One more thing, how can I find out the bike's fork is made of what type of material, I tried to use magnet test, the fork was not be attracted to a magnet, could it be made of aluminum alloys?

I tried to search some info about the XDS AFB360 bike model, no much info on the web.

Thanks for your feedback in advance!

U probably just need some lube at derailleurs joints. Squirt some wd40

Thanks, will try it. Btw, shall I uses WD40 a degreaser, clean up the derailleur, then apply some lubricants?

Planning to go to Kyoto/Osaka this coming April. Planning to cycle from Kyoto to Osaka one way, around 60km. Most probably will bring a 14' from here..

Do you have any photo on how you pack the 14' into a luggage? Any idea whether it's doable to do the distance on a 14'?
*
I tried to ride a 14" single speed bike for about 20km (flat lane) and it is doable, but cannot go fast smile.gif

change to dnp 11-28t freewheel easier and cheaper. plug n play.

Yup, the bike comes with original 14-28t freewheel.

Still able to find 6 speed 11-28t freewheel now? Can DIY?

Thanks.
