I see. What about the wheels size? Does 26” is faster than 20” given the same gear ratio and cadence are the same for the similar spec bike?
*
Let's say you ride the 20" and your rb 700c (same weight) for the same cadence and gear ratio. Of course ler the bigger diameter wheels will travel further and faster.

If you can accept big fold size, go for the biggest wheel (assuming that speed is your main priority). Many of foldies' owner would prefer a smaller fold size though. For the obvious reasons. portability and space.

I see. If let say I buy X11 or X10 or P18 or something, can I upgrade the chainring to have 2 such as 52/36 and upgrade the cassette from 9 or 10 to 11 speed? It willl be a lot of thing to change on RB but not too sure on the foldie.
*
Short answer, Yes. All you need is the FD, adapters, chainring (or crankset) and shifter (and cable housing)

9-10 speed cassette, no problemo. 11 speed, u need 11 speed freehub. Either it's Rb/foldies/mtb, when dealing with groupsets, it's just similar procedure.

I think i have wrote this before.

Let's take 2 chromoly frames.

Frame 1 : Dahon Speed

Frame 2 : Java Ira

Given both are chromoly, sensibly both should have similar riding feeling right? No. The geometry plays a big part too. If one to test both of them, one would feel more nimble and thr other would feel more comfy.

TBH, the difference in ride feel/quality/handling between my aluminium folding bike and the java ira is not too much to be noticeable (at least for me). But the dahon speed ride feel/quality and comfort is in a league of it's own. It is heavier though.

if u comparing dahon speed on 406  with fat tyre and java ira on 451 with semi slick tyre is like comparing orange and apple.

but, if u had both in same setup i do remember both have small different in terms of comfort, stability and stiffness.

while the java ira would be lighter coz the carbon fork (a bit feel like front suspension too) i do feel the dahon speed is much more smooth coz the volume and mixture of chromoly are not the same besides frame design. and of coz do remember the weight penalty on dahon speed compare to java ira.

both bike price are nearly the same. the only problem if u wanna mod ur dahon speed the same spec like java ira, the cost will be enough to buy another used java ira laugh.gif

Yes sifu, i compared it stock against stock, since that's what people gonna get from the LBS anyway. No dispute on the tyre width there. Wider tyres provides more comfort. But having said that, my aluminium fb that has the same tyre width with the ira ride feel is almost similar. So..

Huh?
I thought more gears mean you can go faster. Not making it easier to go uphill.
When going uphill, you need to use the low/light gears.
Having more gears does not make it easier to go uphill because the cycling will get stiffer in higher gear.
*
Regarding the gearing, For climbing, It's not the number of gears that matters. It's a matter how big your largest cog is and how small your chainring is.

bro can you determine this rd is medium or long cage? hahaa..

btw the casette is already at 32T..if change to 34T would make no difference right..

that looks like a short cage rd.

for rd, you could search for altus rd, a bit cheaper than a tiagra, same cable pull ratio with tiagra 4600. well i dunno what shifter do you use so dont really know what is compatible. tiagra 4700 mid cage rd can accommodate up to 36t cassette, although recommended til 34t. i personally would rather invest on a long cage rd than adding a goatlink. it's still scary to me seeing the ss rd on big-big combo even with a goatlink (i know it's not recommended, but hey, sometimes it happens)

if your spouse is santai2 kayuh type, just change to 39t chainring saja. no need headache lahh. keep the rd and chain. my waifu also use this chainring ALL THE TIME, eventhough it's a double chainring bike doh.gif . normally crankset that is installed on the most fb came with 130 bcd.

8 speed Altus rd with 4600 shifter below

Wow! Increased budget and gets the Fnhon 14", pls spam pixs, once you've received the bike.

Btw, anyone know where to get the 'plastic part' (pls refer uploaded image, marked in red circle) of the handlepost for dahon? The plastic part has a bit of crack, but the handlepost locking function still can be locked properly.

Thanks!
