thanks. is there any weight limit ?
*
There's a weight limit for folding bikes, depends on manufacturers recommendations..

Normally lah, that seatpost clamp cannot tahan la for heavyweights.. other parts, im not so sure. But the usual suspects will be the wheelset, clamping parts.

IMHO, MTB is more comfortable and durable for heavier folks..

Nice. Im planning to try my maiden ride there this weekend with my cycling buddies. What worries me is not the climb, but the descent..i wonder if my brakes would do a sufficient job..still thinking which bike to bring, though im more inclined to ride my cap ayam biggrin.gif..any advice bro?

this kind of rack, where you have to take off the front wheel, you need to know the limits it can accomodate the fork. some rack accommodate 100mm..while some fb such as dahon and tern, the fork is 74mm..so it may not fit.

hmmm,...advise sweat.gif

if i were u,.better going up next time. last weekend a very bad weather. rain most of the time. so downhill are not so fun.

i think the weather this one or two weeks would be rainy. better check ur brake. and get some good warm riding wear. and when its rain, better backup with small pack of food to avoid ur getting hungry.

other than that, i think every one can climb lah.. different fast or slow only
*
Aiseh..rain ahh..haduiii

Nevertheless, think the plan will still goes on,since it's been planned months ago. Changing plan at the last minute would probably be as good as cancelling the event..

Guess i need to reavaluate my choice of bikes for this trip. My best bet would be my MTB, but not syok lah climb pakai mtb. Felt like im using a cheat code or something haha..still itching to use foldies.

Rain coat. Waterproof your bags.
My cheap and cheerful waterproofing method is to use plastic bags. I put my phone in a small clear plastic bag, no seal. Wallet in another small clear plastic bags. If you use pannier, put the whole pannier bag inside a garbage bag and cucok the belts through the bag and tie to the racks.
If you use light chain lube or silicon spray lube,  bring your lube bottle along. You might need to re-lube.

If the rain is heavy enough to reduce your visibility, just stop and wait it out. No need be hero…

i don't mind getting a lil bit of soak bro ken. my main concern is the brakes performance during the descent on the slippery road. sweat.gif

I have some symmetrical dual pivot caliper brakes. You want to try?
[attachmentid=10012722]

But if you are using carbon rims without disc brake… better don't risk your life.

Thanks bro ken. I have decided to ride my dahon with 406 with bunga tyres biggrin.gif . Actually, my cap ayam bike already using tiagra c brakes, but it also needs to use c brakes adapter to make it usable with the 451 wheelset. The thing with adapter is, it reduces brakes performance a bit. So, considering that, + the slick panaracer tyres + possible slippery descent, i think it's a safer bet for me to ride the dahon since the v brakes it came with stops the bike better. Tyres on dahon are heavier, but slow2 climb ajer lah and enjoy the view biggrin.gif.

Done fraser yesterday. Started from KKB. Honestly, im a bit disappointed. The gradient is way below my expectation. Or, probably im expecting too much?. Hardly break a sweat in the famous last 8km climbing..or maybe i just ride too santai kot. But, nevertheless it was good fun riding with friends biggrin.gif..

Want extreme gradient? Dont have to go far. Just head to Jalan Langgak Duta. Easy can get more than 20% gradient for less then 500m span. If not enough can repeat climb. Search Bukit Lamboghini langgak duta
*
I dont live in klang valley bro.so, that place is quite far from me.

Here actually we got a few places with respectable gradient as well. sometimes i just choose mtbing climb offroad jer..planning to ride on bukit tampin and bukit sampah somewhere in the near future, just need to arrange suitable time to go there, since the distance will be around 120-140km..

What i meant with fraser is, the gradient isn't as extreme as i previously imagine in my head..you know lah, it's a famous climbing spot in Malaysia, and it's been hailed as the place where cyclist 'renew licenced', in the end, it's only a long and continous climb with moderate gradient. Once you get your gearing and cadence right, it was an effortless climb. But i do enjoy the trip, just less excited to ride there again.

Went to bukit tampin last week,it's very challenging for a new rider like me...
Going down hill can smell my brake frying adi...
Quite a nice tranining ride though, might plan to go there once / twice a month soon...
*
it's challenging for most of the riders ler. biggrin.gif . kudos to you thumbup.gif

i prefer climbing more than riding downhills, because my balls shrinks on the descent sweat.gif

We took our time up,rested a few times...
A group of 15 ppls i think,so everyone manage to get up to d top, some beginner gets some assist from d pros also...
Everyone can make it,i am being told by some pros that it's not quite challenging, ask us to try bukit beruang hill, only up climbing, and down at ur own risk...
I straight surrender...
*
Bear hill u need mtb, for better braking..but it's crowded with pedestrian as well..so to avoid collision, better walk your bike ler on the way down

I am a mtbiker now, foldie left untouch quite a long time adi...
Use it when santai ride only, plan to sell soon...
I see u change ur ride also adi rite?
Ya,d brake it quite important for uphill and downhill, unless u plan to walk with ur bike downhill...
*
I got both bro, mtb and foldies..mtb got 2 sets of wheelset, one for offroad, and the other one is a lighter wheelset for onroad used with slick tyres..too lazy to change tyre.

But i enjoy riding my small wheels more. It's just as fast, no, i think it's a faster ride than mtb. But to be exact, for me, both mtb and foldies differs in terms of pedalling technique, where on foldies i can spin spin spin and save my energy and on mtb i have to grind grind grind and use more power, especially during offroading..but could be because my foldies crankarms is 170mm and my mtb is 175mm..dunno ler..one thing for sure, both foldies and mtb are fun to ride in their own way. biggrin.gif

If u in melaka, can try join with Lizard Cycling Group (most of them are MTBers anyway, onroad ride on wednesday night, 50-70km with average of 25-30kmh. Offroad every sunday..

Just to add, Eventhough both ira and dahon speed are chromoly, both rides differently..

Comfort, definitely the dahon.
For speed, java ira.ira weight 10.5kg with all the stock components while dahon speed is around 12-13kg IINM.

oh ok thanks bro..i think i will skip that stuff first..just get a helmet when i get the bike..most shop sell the limar brand but dunno which model is good..
*
Find the one that feels most comfortable in your head. Brand doesnt matter, but for safety assurance, i personally feel more secured wearing the major brand..if you intend to commute a lot with your bike, get a helmet with bright colour, to be more visible to the other road users.
